The central committee of the Tanty Party has formed a three-member investigation panel in response to extortion allegations against Zakir Hossain, President of the Dhaka District Tanty Party.

According to Mojibur Rahman, General Secretary of the central committee, the panel will thoroughly verify all relevant information. “If Zakir Hossain is found guilty after a fair investigation, he will be expelled from the party,” he stated.

It is reported that on June 21, Zakir Hossain allegedly demanded extortion money from street vendors operating on the footpath in front of the Greater Wholesale Cloth Market in Sripur. The vendors reportedly retaliated by physically assaulting him. Following this incident, the market authorities filed an extortion case against Zakir Hossain at the Ashulia Police Station.

Investigation Committee Formed Against Dhaka District Tanty Party President Over Extortion Allegations

NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah has exposed alleged corrupt practices within Bangladesh’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Posting three video clips on Facebook as evidence, Hasnat claimed that individuals are being forced to pay 100,000 Taka to obtain clearance certificates, even when there are no corruption allegations against them.

According to Hasnat, the ACC’s Director General Akhtar and his Deputy Director recently demanded this bribe from Mahmuda Mitu under threat of official action. Mahmuda Mitu joined the Red Crescent after August 5. Hasnat accused the ACC of currently investigating corruption cases dating back to the Awami League’s tenure but absurdly trying to shift blame onto present officials without naming those involved.

He concluded, “We demand justice against the ACC’s corruption. Did the people of Bangladesh sacrifice their lives in July only for officials to extort 100,000 Taka as ‘tea money’?”
