A lawyer named Md. Jasim Uddin has filed a contempt of court complaint against NCP leader Sarjis Alam for a Facebook post criticizing the High Court. The post followed the dismissal of a writ petition that sought to block Ishraq Hossain from taking his mayoral oath. Alam wrote, “If mob pressure can influence High Court verdicts, what’s the point of having a High Court?” The lawyer claims this constitutes contempt of court, especially after receiving no reply to a prior legal notice.

The High Court on Wednesday acquitted BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman in a long-standing corruption case. Justice Md. Khasruzzaman delivered the verdict. Defense lawyer S. M. Shahjahan stated that none of the properties attributed to Tarique were beyond known sources of income, and none were located outside Bangladesh.

The Appellate Division will hear a leave-to-appeal petition on Thursday challenging the dismissal of a writ that sought to stop BNP leader Ishraq Hossain from taking oath as the Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). During the hearing, the Election Commission’s stance will also be considered. The petitioner’s lawyer pointed out inconsistencies in the Election Tribunal's verdict. In response, Ishraq's counsel argued that the EC issued the gazette based on the court’s ruling and decided not to appeal the verdict.

Leaders of the Shahbagh Opposition Alliance claimed that leftist activists provoked the clash at Rajshahi University (RU) by initiating physical altercations and throwing flaming torches at opposition demonstrators. In a press conference following the incident involving the Democratic Student Alliance and the Shahbagh Opposition group, G. A. Sabbir read a written statement saying the protest was organized to oppose the 2013 Shahbagh Gonojagoron Mancha, which he labeled as a mob that interfered with the country's judicial process. Sabbir added that despite their efforts, they failed to prevent the violence due to the other side’s aggressiveness. He also criticized the Chhatra Dal's stance during the incident.

The Ministry of Law revealed that the inter-ministerial committee on politically motivated cases has recommended the withdrawal of 11,448 cases so far. BNP submitted a list of nearly 16,000 cases between January 10–14, 2025, while Jamaat-e-Islami submitted a list of 1,200 cases on April 27. Around half of the cases have already been recommended for withdrawal. Hefazat-e-Islam also submitted a list of 44 cases on May 20.

Participants from Dhaka, Sylhet, Mymensingh, and Faridpur arrived in processions. Chhatra Dal Senior Vice President Abu Afsan Mohammad Yahia said, “Youth are being deprived of political rights. They can’t vote or express opinions. Today’s rally is a reflection of our pain and protest.”

Former Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami, ATM Azharul Islam, declared his sense of liberation after being released: "I am now free, I am now independent. If Allah keeps me alive, we will meet again and speak again." During a gathering, he criticized the road blockade caused by the rally, urging not to cause public suffering. Jamaat-e-Islami leader ATM Azharul Islam was released on Wednesday morning after being acquitted by the Supreme Court in a war crimes case where he had previously received the death penalty. He was freed from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), where Jamaat members were present to welcome him.

GOP leader Rashed Khan has called for the restructuring of the interim government's advisory council, labeling its members as "incompetent" except for the Chief Adviser. Activist Umama Fatema criticized former Shibir members who, she claims, infiltrated Chhatra League and contributed to a toxic student political culture post-August 5. “For 15 years, many of them used Chhatra League’s name to assert dominance in student halls,” she wrote. Fatema further accused them of sabotaging student causes while pretending to represent the general student body. “They didn’t even join anti-rape protests or movements against rigged elections,” she added.

Former Land Minister Rezaul Karim Hira (84) and his wife were released from police custody late Monday night after being detained in Jamalpur. Officer-in-Charge Abu Faisal Md. Atik confirmed there were no charges against Hira, who appeared confused and unable to articulate his whereabouts. Considering his age and mental state, he was released into the custody of his wife, Salma Khatun, whose own health is reportedly poor. The couple had earlier been detained by local BNP activists in Sherpur while attempting to sell land. Notably, Hira served as Land Minister in 2009.

Shahriar Alam Samyo was assaulted after a verbal altercation with a group of known drug dealers at the food court in Suhrawardy Udyan on the night of May 13, according to DMP Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali. The dispute reportedly began when Samyo asked to see their electric vehicle, often used for self-defense. The altercation escalated, and a drug dealer named Rabbi attacked Samyo with a Swiss gear knife, injuring his leg. The Detective Branch has arrested eight more suspects, bringing the total number of arrests in connection with the murder to eleven.
