Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called for a United Nations-led impartial investigation following the killing of two Bangladeshis by India's Border Security Force (BSF) at the Feni border.

In a statement issued Friday, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman expressed deep concern, citing rights organization Odhikar’s report that 588 Bangladeshis have been killed by BSF since 2009. He blamed the government's submissive foreign policy and urged stronger action to stop the killings and ensure justice.

BNP Standing Committee Member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy criticized the current interim administration, stating that lack of coordination and experience has led to political instability and public distrust.

Speaking after visiting the family of Anika, a student killed in the Milestone crash, Roy warned that delays in elections could raise further questions about legitimacy. He expressed frustration that even four days after the tragedy, no one from the Air Force had accepted responsibility and demanded the perpetrators be held accountable to prevent future incidents.

National Citizens’ Platform (NCP) Convenor Nahid Islam claimed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in the face of mass uprising, fled to India and left behind an "unfit state" for the next generation.

Speaking at a street rally in Sunamganj on Friday, Nahid stressed the need for institutional reforms and preservation of the Haor and river ecosystems. He commended opposition alliances for shifting their stance and announced a mass rally in Dhaka on August 3 to push for the "July Charter and Declaration."

An extortion case has been filed against 56 individuals, including two leaders of the BNP’s student and youth wings, in Rajshahi. The case was lodged by Mostafizur Rahman, the owner of Green Plaza Real Estate Ltd., alleging a demand for BDT 200,000.

Main accused Mozadded Jamani Suman (Jubo Dal) and Emdadul Haque Limon (Chhatra Dal) have denied the allegations, calling the charges politically motivated. Reports also surfaced that the complainant has past allegations of fraud and claims close ties with former mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and his wife Shahin Akhtar Reni. An investigation is yet to begin.

At a memorial prayer event held at Dhaka University Central Mosque, Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib accused a certain group of politicizing the mosque space. "The mosque is sacred, yet some use it for political meetings even after Fajr prayers and train others to use abusive language," he said.

The event was organized to remember the victims of the July uprising and the Milestone crash. Chhatra Dal Secretary Nasir Uddin also addressed the gathering, calling for justice for the victims of recent attacks and extending condolences to the affected families.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman have expressed condolences to the family of Flight Lieutenant Taukir Islam, who died in the same crash. On Friday, a BNP delegation led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir visited the officer's residence in Dhaka Cantonment.

The delegation, which included former military officials and senior party leaders, conveyed messages of solidarity and sympathy on behalf of the party.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has extended condolences to the families of Nazia and Nafee, the students killed in the recent military plane crash at the Milestone School campus in Uttara. Visiting their home in Turag on Friday on behalf of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Rizvi expressed deep sympathy.

Speaking with the bereaved parents, Rizvi stated, "There is no grief greater than losing a child. We will inform the concerned authorities of the family's concerns." The father of the victims, Ashraful Alam, requested that no future graves be placed over his children’s final resting place.

More than 400 police officers, including 66 from outside the district, will be deployed in Netrokona ahead of the National Citizen Party’s (NCP) rally scheduled for Sunday. The town’s Police Lines School has been closed for two days to accommodate the additional forces. While police deny involvement in the school closure, citing misinformation on social media, school authorities confirmed it was due to the heavy police presence. Activist groups "Jagroto July" and "July Oikya" have launched an exhibition in front of the National Press Club highlighting enforced disappearances, killings, political violence, the 2013 Shapla Chattar crackdown, controversial war crimes trials, and the alleged 2024 massacre—all during the tenure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The exhibition, inaugurated on Friday (July 25), will run until August 5. On the final day, organizers plan a symbolic trial and hanging of Sheikh Hasina. The event is drawing participation from political, cultural, and civil society representatives.

From July 27, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will enforce new entry rules: a maximum of two individuals may accompany each passenger to the Departure Driveway and Arrival Canopy areas. According to airport spokesperson Mahmudul Hasan Masum, the decision aims to reduce traffic congestion and bolster security. Authorities have urged the public to cooperate and follow the new regulations. The airport currently handles around 12.5 million passengers annually.

He also alleged a breakdown of the judicial system over the past 15 years.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) repatriated 71 Myanmar nationals from 20 families who had entered Bangladesh illegally during communal unrest in Myanmar. These families lived alongside local hill communities in Naikhongchhari for over a year before being safely sent back through the Baishfari and Tumbro border areas. The BGB 34th Battalion has been closely monitoring the situation to maintain border security, prevent illegal entry, and combat smuggling and drug trafficking while upholding a humanitarian approach.

Russia is set to introduce a new digital app called ‘Max,’ pre-installed on all new devices from September, aiming to enhance government control over citizens’ online activities. The app offers messaging, video calls, government services, and mobile payments but stores data within Russia, allowing the FSB to monitor users. Experts warn this could lead to banning popular apps like WhatsApp, forcing citizens to switch to ‘Max’ and marking a significant step in Russia’s expanding digital surveillance.
