Polish prosecutors have filed criminal charges against two former intelligence chiefs for using Israeli-made Pegasus spyware in their official duties, alleging the act endangered sensitive state information. The National Prosecutors’ Office announced on Wednesday that Piotr P, former head of the ABW internal security agency, and Maciej Materka, former head of the SKW military counterintelligence service, lacked the required IT security accreditation to operate the software. Both face up to three years in prison for alleged dereliction of duty. Prosecutors said the men denied the accusations and refused to provide explanations during questioning.

Materka publicly identified himself and condemned the charges, asserting that all operations under his leadership were legally authorized and that he had served Poland with an impeccable record. The case forms part of a broader investigation into the use of Pegasus spyware by Polish officials.

Former Justice Minister and Attorney General Zbigniew Ziobro also faces separate charges, including abuse of power and misuse of funds intended for crime victims to purchase Pegasus, allegedly to monitor political opponents.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has instructed all Polish citizens currently in Iran to leave the country without delay. In a warning issued on Thursday, he said that due to the growing risk of armed conflict, it might become impossible to evacuate citizens within hours if the situation deteriorates. Tusk urged Poles not to travel to Iran under any circumstances.

The warning followed a report published Wednesday by U.S. media outlet Axios, which suggested that the likelihood of military conflict between the United States and Iran was much higher than most Americans believed. The report also indicated that a large-scale attack could begin within weeks.

Tusk’s directive reflects heightened international concern over potential instability in the region, with governments closely monitoring developments that could affect their nationals in Iran.

A recent survey in Poland found that most respondents favor banning social media use for children under 16. Conducted by SW Research for the newspaper Rzeczpospolita and reported by TVP World on February 8, 2026, the poll showed that 64.3 percent supported the restriction, while 21.9 percent opposed it and 13.8 percent had no opinion. The survey, held on February 3–4 among 800 internet users aged 18 and above, indicated that support for the ban increased with age.

Lower-income respondents and residents of medium-sized cities showed stronger support. Among those earning less than 3,000 zlotys (about 840 dollars) per month, 71.9 percent backed the ban. Lawmakers from Poland’s centrist Civic Coalition are drafting a bill to restrict social media use for children under 15. Former education minister Roman Giertych said the measure aims to protect children from algorithmic influence and addiction risks that could harm their mental health and education.

Poland’s consideration follows similar actions in other countries, including Australia’s ban on under-16 users and regulatory plans announced in France and Spain.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki has said that only U.S. President Donald Trump can prevent Russian President Vladimir Putin from threatening Europe. In an interview with Radio 4, Nawrocki stated that Russia poses a threat to Poland and to Central and Eastern Europe, and that Trump is the only person capable of resolving the issue and ending the war in Ukraine. He warned that these are dangerous times and urged Europe to support Trump’s efforts to bring the conflict to an end.

Nawrocki, known as a supporter of Trump, also commented on the relationship between Europe and the United States. He said that despite recent U.S. statements regarding Greenland, the United States remains the guarantor of Europe’s security. According to him, Trump’s actions toward Europe deserve support and respect. Nawrocki expressed concern that Europe is moving away from the United States, which he believes would not be beneficial for the European Union’s economic or military security.

The president’s remarks reflect Poland’s continued emphasis on transatlantic ties and its reliance on U.S. leadership in European security matters.

A U.S.-made F-16 fighter jet crashed during a military exercise in western Poland on August 28, killing the pilot. Footage shows the aircraft suddenly descending from the sky before hitting the ground and catching fire. No bystanders were harmed, and the cause of the crash remains unknown. Poland, a key NATO ally, has been operating F-16s purchased from the United States since 2003. The incident marks another fatal accident involving this aircraft model.

Archaeologists in Poland’s Wielkopolska region have uncovered two prehistoric megalithic tombs, now being referred to as the “Polish Pyramids.” These structures, estimated to be around 5,500 years old, date back to the same era as Stonehenge and predate the Egyptian pyramids.

The trapezoidal tombs, each about 200 meters long and 4 meters high, were constructed with stones weighing up to 10 tons and are aligned toward the sunrise. They are attributed to the Funnelbeaker culture, known for its early agricultural practices and monumental tomb-building.

Researchers believe these tombs served as burial sites for influential figures such as shamans and tribal leaders. Artifacts found include ceremonial axes and opium vessels, indicating the spiritual significance of the graves. The discovery offers new insights into prehistoric European architecture and belief systems.
