Police in Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar have detained a woman accused of impersonating a member of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) to commit fraud. The arrest took place around 11 p.m. on Tuesday at the Magnama Union Parishad office. The detainee, identified as Hasina Akter, 37, is a resident of Gachbaria in Chandanaish upazila of Chattogram and had been living in a rented house near the Magnama submarine base area.
According to Magnama Union Parishad Chairman Yunus Chowdhury, the woman had long been introducing herself as a DGFI officer posted in Pekua and had repeatedly tried to mislead him on various matters. When she again attempted to exert influence on Tuesday, he became suspicious and informed the Pekua police. Officers then arrived at the Union Parishad office and detained her.
Pekua Police Station’s investigation officer Imrul Hasan said the woman is being interrogated to determine her motives and whether others were involved. Legal action will follow if the allegations are verified.
Woman detained in Pekua for posing as DGFI officer to commit fraud
SM Lablur Rahman, a member (administration) of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), has filed a case alleging that his signature was forged to create a fake contract and consent letter. The case was lodged at the Airport Police Station on Sunday, June 22, and confirmed by Officer-in-Charge Kamrul Hasan Talukder. According to the case statement, the forged contract falsely presented Rahman as the first party and one Fahad Hossain as the second party, promising payment if Hossain were appointed chairman of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation.
The complaint states that Rahman’s signature was falsified on both the contract and a separate consent document. Rahman said he took legal action to protect his reputation and professional integrity, claiming a group deliberately attempted to defame him. He denied any involvement in unethical activities and urged for a fair investigation to identify those responsible.
Police confirmed that an investigation is underway, including document verification and questioning of relevant individuals to uncover the full circumstances behind the alleged forgery.
CAAB official files police case over forged signature and fake contract allegations
A special team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police under the Wari Division arrested six professional muggers during an operation in the capital. The arrests took place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in the Jatrabari and Sayedabad areas following a tip-off. The detainees were identified as Md. Ismail Hariz (21), Md. Alam (25), Md. Robin (26), Md. Siddiqur Rahman (38), Nashat Khan Nabil (19), and Robiul Islam Mahin (20).

He said he identified the accused through social media, video footage, and witness accounts from other students.
He demanded justice and punishment for those he holds responsible for his son’s death, naming 28 individuals in total in his testimony.

A detainee named Nurul Alam, 45, died less than 15 hours after being taken to Chattogram Central Jail. He was identified as the joint convener of the banned Satykania Upazila unit of the Youth League. The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested two individuals with 7,000 yaba pills concealed inside a motorcycle engine in Rajendrapur area of Challisha Union, Netrokona Sadar upazila. The operation took place on Tuesday morning along the Netrokona–Mymensingh road, led by Assistant Director Md Nazmul Haque. Acting on a tip-off, the DNC team set up a temporary checkpoint, stopped a suspicious motorcycle, and discovered the drugs hidden in the engine compartment.
The detainees were identified as Md Sohel Mia, 36, and Md Sajib, 24, both from Chirram village in Barhatta upazila. Authorities also seized three mobile phones and the motorcycle used in the operation. The DNC estimated the market value of the seized yaba pills at around 2.8 million taka. Inspector Md Al-Amin filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act at Netrokona Model Police Station.

A group of fraudsters has allegedly created a fake WhatsApp account using the name and photo of Mirzapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun to demand money from various individuals. The incident has caused concern in the Tangail upazila, prompting police to urge residents to remain alert. The scammers reportedly call people claiming that complaints or cases have been filed against them and then demand money in exchange for resolving the matter.
One victim, Nurul Islam Khan, a resident of Bawar Kumarjani area and an expatriate in Singapore, said he received such a call from a number using the OC’s name and photo. Suspicious of the caller’s behavior, he refused to share any information and later sent screenshots of the number to journalists. Local sources said a similar attempt was made earlier targeting former Mirzapur Press Club president Abul Kashem Khan.
OC Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed receiving complaints about the fake account and said police have begun investigating to identify and arrest those involved. Authorities have advised the public to verify any such calls and avoid financial transactions without confirmation.
Fake WhatsApp account uses Mirzapur OC’s identity to extort money from locals
Police in Rangpur’s Taraganj upazila have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the rape and murder of nine-year-old Sanjida Khatun, a second-grade student at a local madrasa kindergarten. The arrest was announced on Tuesday afternoon during a press conference at Taraganj Police Station by Rangpur Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mozammel Haque. Sanjida went missing on June 19 while playing near her home in Bhimpur Quranipara area of Alampur Union. Her body was discovered the next morning beside a jute field near her house.
According to the police, the suspect, Mujahid Islam, was detained from his home in Bhimpur Quranipara around 9:30 p.m. on Monday. Police arrest youth in Taraganj for rape and murder of nine-year-old girl
A Chattogram court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and an additional 17 years of rigorous imprisonment for abducting and sexually assaulting his sister-in-law. Chattogram court gives life term and 17 years to man for abducting sister-in-law
Police in Saghata upazila of Gaibandha have arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of Islami Chhatra Shibir leader Saifullah Bari.
