The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) announced on April 27, 2026, that it has solved the murder of customs officer Bullet Bairagi in Cumilla and dismantled a Telegram-based cybercrime network. The group allegedly hacked social media accounts and sold private content through hundreds of Telegram channels. Authorities recovered around 150,000 sensitive images and videos. RAB stated that its operations to ensure public safety and curb cybercrime, especially against youth, will continue.

The suspects, aged between 13 and 18, allegedly planned the murder out of a morbid curiosity to experience crime and imprisonment.
According to police, the group of teenagers, who often gathered and used drugs near Fatullah railway station, lured Hossain to an abandoned house with the promise of marijuana. There, they stabbed him to death and left his body at the scene. Hossain, who sold flowers with his father, had gone missing on April 18. His decomposed body was discovered five days later, sparking public outrage.
Police said one suspect, Yasin, confessed under Section 164, and a sharp knife used in the murder was recovered. One more suspect remains at large, while authorities continue efforts to apprehend him.

An Indian citizen was detained with foreign currency at the Banglabandha land port in Panchagarh on Monday. The detainee, identified as Palash Chandra Majhi from Khanakul police station area in Hooghly district, India, was reportedly involved in hundi trading. Acting on intelligence information, the National Security Intelligence (NSI) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted a search at the Banglabandha ICP checkpoint around noon and recovered 24,600 US dollars, 5 Indian rupees, 130 Nepali rupees, and 3,570 Bangladeshi taka from him.
According to intelligence sources, the Indian national had entered Bangladesh on a tourist visa on March 27 and was attempting to return to India through the Banglabandha land port when he was detained. Tetulia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Laisur Rahman confirmed the detention, adding that the suspect had not yet been brought to the station. He said a case would be filed under relevant laws if the customs authorities lodged a complaint.
Assistant Customs Commissioner (AC) Sayedur Rahman Munna, responsible for the port and immigration, was contacted but said he was busy and would speak later.
Indian man held with foreign currency at Banglabandha land port in Panchagarh
A fisherman was killed by lightning while fishing in the Dhanua River of Khaliajuri upazila in Netrakona on Monday morning. The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. near the ferry ghat area of Jagannathpur, according to Khaliajuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nasir Uddin. The deceased was identified as Abdul Motaleb, 55, a resident of Bagber village in Maizpara union under Ishwarganj upazila of Mymensingh.
Local sources said Motaleb and two others had traveled by autorickshaw from their home area to the Dhanua River for fishing. They began fishing with rods at Godaraghata in Jagannathpur when rain and lightning suddenly started. Motaleb was struck by lightning and died on the spot. Police said necessary legal procedures are being carried out regarding the incident.
Authorities have not reported any further casualties or property damage from the lightning strike.

According to police sources, Sohan, a casual machine operator at a pharmaceutical factory, had a romantic relationship with his cousin, and their families had discussed marriage. However, his younger brother Sakib later became romantically involved with the same cousin, leading to conflict between the brothers. On Saturday night, after an argument, Sohan tied up Sakib, gagged him, and fatally cut his tendons with a blade. When their father, Sohel Rana, witnessed the killing, Sohan took him near a railway line, where he was struck and killed by a passing train.
Police said Sohan was sent to the Gazipur District and Sessions Judge Court on Monday after being shown arrested in a murder case.
Man in Gazipur admits killing father and brother over anger at broken marriage proposal
Sheikh Yusuf Afridi, a commander of the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Bairagi had recently attended the 44th basic training in Chattogram and was returning to Dhaka after completing it. His last phone contact with family occurred around 1:25 a.m. when he said he was near Tomchom Bridge in Comilla, after which communication was lost.

The Supreme Court’s Appellate Division chamber court has stayed the bail of Ehteshamul Haque, also known as Bhola, one of the accused in the murder case of former police superintendent Babul Akhter’s wife, Mahmuda Khanam Mitu. The order was issued on Monday. Bhola had been arrested on January 21 from in front of Media Tower in the Kalpolok residential area of Chattogram by Bakalia police.
Ehteshamul Haque, identified as a listed criminal, faces multiple cases including murder, arms, and extortion charges. He was also shown arrested in the case of nursing college teacher Anjali Rani Devi, who was hacked to death in 2015 in Chattogram’s Panchlaish area. Mahmuda Khanam Mitu was murdered on June 5, 2016, near GEC intersection while taking her son to school. Following the incident, Babul Akhter filed a case against three unidentified persons.
The investigation was later transferred from the Chattogram Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch to the Police Bureau of Investigation. In 2021, Mitu’s father filed another case naming Babul Akhter as the prime accused. Allegations of political influence and controversy surrounded the investigation process during the previous Awami League government.
Supreme Court chamber stays bail of Bhola, accused in Mitu murder case

Dhaka court cancels bail of ex-Chhatra League leader in Khaleda Zia motorcade attack case

Police in Netrokona’s Purbadhala have arrested three people, including the upazila unit member secretary and a former joint convener of the Chhatra Dal, in connection with an attack and vandalism on a Member of Parliament’s private car. The detainees are Saju Ahmed, Solaiman Kabir Pappu, and Aiyub Ali. Saju Ahmed is the third accused and serves as the upazila Chhatra Dal member secretary, while Solaiman Kabir Pappu is the tenth accused and a former joint convener. Aiyub Ali, the fortieth accused, is the ward president of the Krishak Dal in Laujana village. Police said the arrested individuals will be produced before court, and operations are continuing to detain others involved.
The case stems from an incident last Friday evening when MP Mashum Mostafa’s car was attacked and vandalized at a filling station in Atkapara area.
