Police recovered the body of a brick kiln worker named Mintu Mia, aged 48, from a paddy field in Akartoma area along the Paniyala road in Ramganj upazila of Lakshmipur district on Saturday afternoon. The discovery was made around 2 p.m. after local police received information and arrived at the scene. Mintu Mia was a resident of Char Motua village in Noakhali Sadar upazila and worked at Fahad Bricks Manufacturer in Ramganj.

According to police and local sources, the landowner found the body while inspecting his paddy field. The victim’s mouth was found tied with a towel. Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Firoz Uddin Chowdhury confirmed the incident and said the body had been sent to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for examination.

Battery-run rickshaw and van drivers in Domar upazila of Nilphamari blocked a road on Saturday morning to protest toll collection. Leaseholder Shariful Islam Pappu stated that the municipality had leased the right to collect tolls from auto-rickshaws and vans operating within its jurisdiction, and that each toll point had designated personnel. Domar Upazila Executive Officer Shayla Saeed Tonni said that extortion would not be tolerated and that only lawful municipal procedures would continue.

Drivers in Nilphamari block road over toll dispute, toll collector beaten during protest

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested an auto-rickshaw driver named Sagar Sheikh Babu, aged 37, for allegedly killing a security guard in Dhaka’s Pallabi residential area. The arrest was announced at a press conference held on Saturday afternoon at the PBI Dhaka Metro North office in West Agargaon.

According to PBI Additional DIG Enayet Hossain Mannan, the incident occurred on April 13 around 1 p.m. when Sagar Sheikh Babu attempted to enter the residential area without prior permission. Security guard Salahuddin stopped him, leading to an argument. Enraged, the driver physically assaulted the elderly guard, striking him repeatedly on the head and face. Salahuddin lost consciousness and was taken to a hospital, where he died the next day. Following the incident, the victim’s wife, Halima Begum, filed a case with Pallabi Police Station.

Based on witness statements and CCTV footage, investigators identified and arrested the suspect early Friday from Mirpur Section-11. The rickshaw used during the incident was also seized.

Auto-rickshaw driver arrested for killing security guard in Dhaka’s Pallabi area

District Detective Branch (DB) police in Noakhali Sadar upazila arrested four individuals with 1,400 liters of illegally stored diesel and a red voucher vehicle. The arrests took place late on Friday, April 17, following a raid based on secret information. The detainees were identified as Md. Rashed, Nasir Uddin, Shihab Uddin, and Md. Maksud, all residents of different areas within the upazila.

According to police sources, the operation was conducted under the direction of the district superintendent of police and led by Sub-Inspector Helal Uddin. Acting on intelligence that diesel was being hoarded for sale at inflated prices, the DB team raided Abdul Malek Oil Store in Uday Sadhur Hat South Bazar of Char Motua Union around 11:45 p.m. The team seized the diesel and the vehicle during the operation.

District DB Officer-in-Charge Mohin Uddin confirmed that a case under the Special Powers Act has been filed at Sudharam Model Police Station, and the detainees were sent to court on Saturday afternoon.

Four held in Noakhali with 1,400 liters of illegal diesel storage

A BNP leader in Rangpur’s Badarganj allegedly assaulted a mosque muezzin and two others after they assisted a mobile court during an anti-illegal sand extraction drive. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at Nagerhat area by the Jamunashwari River, where the mobile court seized and disabled dredging equipment. When the court sought local assistance, muezzin Nur Amin and Jamaat leader Tarajul Islam responded, prompting anger from BNP leader Ohidul Islam and his associates.

Witnesses said Ohidul Islam, the union BNP vice-president, led the attack along with several men, beating Nur Amin near Kutubia Dakhil Madrasa and dragging him from a mosque where he sought refuge. On the way to the hospital, Tarajul Islam and Imam Rowshan Ali were also beaten. Locals accused the BNP leader of extortion, land grabbing, and illegal sand trading, saying his behavior worsened after August 5.

Badarganj BNP president Professor Paritosh Chakraborty stated that the party would take organizational action if written complaints were filed. Attempts to reach Ohidul Islam by phone were unsuccessful.

BNP leader accused of beating muezzin and others for aiding mobile court in Badarganj

Authorities in Syedpur upazila of Nilphamari district seized 4,505 liters of illegally stored fuel during a late-night operation on April 17, 2026. The mobile court detained seven individuals linked to the case and imposed fines under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009. Seven held in Nilphamari for illegal fuel storage; over 4,500 liters seized

Arms dealer Md. Majedul Haque Helal has confessed in court under Section 164 in connection with the murder of Inquilab Mancha spokesman Sharif Osman Hadi. Police produced Helal before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Saturday after a three-day remand. He voluntarily agreed to give a confessional statement, which was recorded by Magistrate Arifur Rahman following a request from CID Assistant Superintendent Abdul Kadir Bhuiyan. Helal was later sent to jail.

Helal, owner of Hamidul Haque Arms & Co. in Chattogram, was arrested earlier from the same city. Investigators traced the pistol used in Hadi’s killing to his shop, revealing that the weapon had changed hands through several licensed dealers since its import in 2017. Helal’s arms license, originally issued in his father’s name, had expired in 2014 and was not renewed. Police sought his remand to determine how the weapon reached the attackers.

Hadi was shot on December 12 last year in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area and later died in Singapore on December 18. The case was later transferred to the CID for further investigation.

Arms dealer Helal confesses in court over Hadi murder case in Dhaka

She sought police protection to avoid being married off before her upcoming SSC examinations. Local sources said her father, farmer Alam Hawlader, decided to marry her off due to financial hardship and the cost of her education. Tahmina stated that her father, brother, and sister-in-law were pressuring her to marry, but she wanted to continue her studies and sit for the SSC exams. Her classmates described her as a bright student and expressed hope that she would be able to continue her education.

Police Sub-Inspector Saidur Rahman confirmed that the girl was returned to her family after they signed a written pledge, witnessed by local elders, promising not to proceed with the marriage.

Pirojpur SSC student seeks police help to stop forced marriage before exams

A police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) named Md Imran Hasan was beaten by locals in Faridpur’s Saltha upazila after allegedly being caught in the house of a drug case suspect’s wife late at night. Police ASI beaten in Faridpur over alleged affair with suspect’s wife

A warrant-listed suspect was allegedly injured due to police assault during his arrest in Bakerganj, Barishal, on Saturday afternoon. Police accused of assaulting suspect during arrest in Bakerganj, Barishal

Mymensingh Medical College forms probe after Chhatra Dal clash, suspends classes for seven days

Members of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) in Barishal district seized a pickup truck loaded with diesel, petrol, and octane that was being stored illegally in Gournadi upazila. The operation took place on Saturday afternoon at the warehouse of a local businessman, Abdur Rahman, in the Sarikal port area. The seized fuel, collected from the Meghna depot in Barishal, included 2,400 liters of diesel, 600 liters of octane, and 200 liters of petrol.

According to sources, the NSI team acted on a tip-off about fuel smuggling and caught the vehicle while the fuel was being unloaded for illegal storage. Abdur Rahman allegedly used a license from Khan Enterprise to collect the fuel unlawfully and had previously sold such fuel at inflated prices. He reportedly ran an electronics shop in Sarikal port where he sold fuel without a valid license.

Authorities said that legal action against those involved in the illegal storage is being processed through a mobile court.

Drug-addicted man jailed three months for assaulting mother in Banshkhali

Police in Sreepur, Gazipur rescued a 16-year-old madrasa student who had been abducted on April 14 while on her way to school. According to police and press sources, the main accused, Md. Abid, and his associates forcibly took the girl near the Maona Fire Service area. Although she was briefly returned home the next day following community pressure, she was abducted again later that morning.
