The trial of former Dhaka South City mayor Fazle Noor Taposh, former textiles and jute minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, and 26 others begins today before International Crimes Tribunal-1 in Dhaka. Police and fire service personnel recovered the decomposed body of a young man named Md. Abdullah Pashari, aged 22, from inside a sunken ship in Umedpur area of Parerhat Union, Jhalokathi upazila of Pirojpur, on Sunday afternoon. The joint operation took place around 5 p.m., following a missing person report filed three days earlier. Abdullah was the son of Alal Pashari from Umedpur village.

According to family sources, Abdullah had been missing for three days. His brother, Rana Pashari, found his shoes and mobile phone near the sunken vessel named MV Green Estrol-1, which had previously sunk near Parerhat fish port. Following this discovery, a general diary was filed at Jhalokathi Police Station on June 13. Police later requested assistance from the fire service to locate the missing man.

The officer-in-charge of Jhalokathi Police Station, Md. Mohabbat Khan, confirmed that an unnatural death case has been filed. The body has been sent for autopsy, and further legal steps will follow after the post-mortem report clarifies whether the death was accidental or intentional.

Police in Netrokona’s Purbadhala have arrested a Chhatra League activist, Shishir Ahmed Talukder Ratul, for allegedly assaulting, extorting money from, and forcibly filming a Jahangirnagar University student in a compromising state. The arrest took place late Saturday night in Mymensingh’s Charpara area through a technology-assisted operation, according to a press release issued by the district police superintendent on Sunday.

The incident occurred on June 10 when the victim, a first-year student of drama and dramatics, mistakenly arrived in Purbadhala’s Shaldigha area. Three assailants allegedly intercepted him, beat him, and robbed him of cash and mobile money transfers totaling over 15,000 taka, along with a mobile phone worth about 22,000 taka. They later discovered his university identity from Facebook, mocked his political affiliations, and forced him to make statements while being filmed. The video was later circulated on social media.

Police recovered the victim’s stolen phone and part of the cash during the arrest. The accused was sent to court with a seven-day remand request, while efforts continue to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects.

A mobile court in Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur sentenced Md. Mizan Rahman, aged 38, to one year of imprisonment without labor for illegally selling topsoil from agricultural land. The operation took place on Sunday afternoon in Sarkarpara area of Dangdhora Union, led by Dewanganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Shah Zahurul Hossain.

According to local sources, soil had been excavated and sold from farmland in the area for a long time using excavators, damaging both the fertility of the land and nearby roads. Acting on complaints, the administration conducted a raid and caught Mizan in the act of soil cutting. He was immediately sentenced by the mobile court.

The executive magistrate stated that removing and selling fertile soil from agricultural land poses a threat to the country’s food security and environment.

Government party lawmaker Mujibur Rahman, representing Gazipur-1 constituency, has alleged that several 'torture cells' have been set up in different parts of Gazipur to carry out extortion activities. He made the allegation on Sunday during the monthly law and order committee meeting held at the Bhawal Conference Room of the Gazipur Deputy Commissioner’s office. Rahman called on the police administration to investigate who established these cells and what activities are taking place there.

A leader of the banned student organization Chhatra League was detained at Rajshahi University and handed over to police by the university administration. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Sunday near the university’s Paris Road area, when a group of students identified and detained Solaiman, a 2019–20 session student of the Botany Department and former religious affairs secretary of the Shahid Habibur Rahman Hall unit. His home district is Tangail’s Madhupur.

According to the university proctor’s office and students, Solaiman had previously been accused of torturing students during the July movement, including holding one at gunpoint. Witnesses said his mobile phone contained evidence of communication with the banned organization’s university branch general secretary. Motihar Police Station’s officer-in-charge stated that Solaiman is an accused in an anti-terrorism case involving the banned Chhatra League and was recently seen at a rally in Shah Makhdum area. Police are keeping him in custody and plan to present him before court.

Rafi Uz-Zahid, owner of Hakka Dhaka restaurant, withdrew his bail petition after initially applying for it in connection with the Bailey Road fire case that killed 46 people two years ago. The hearing took place on Sunday, June 14, 2026, before Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sefatullah. Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, accused in multiple corruption cases, has been arrested in the United Arab Emirates with assistance from Interpol, according to Bangladesh’s Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed. Authorities found several passports, including one from Portugal, and a UAE residence permit in his possession. He was detained at Dubai Airport after being identified by an AI camera system while waiting for a transit flight from London.

Bangladesh police officials said the AI camera flagged his presence, triggering an alert to airport authorities who quickly located and arrested him. The UAE police charged him with entering the country using forged travel documents. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Bangladesh had earlier sought international cooperation to apprehend him in connection with illegal wealth accumulation cases.

Police in Madaripur have arrested a woman named Kulsum Begum, aged 42, in connection with a human trafficking case and are searching for her son-in-law, Kuddus Rahman, aged 35. A police inspector from Jahajmara Investigation Center in Hatiya, Noakhali, has been withdrawn following allegations of raping a 12-year-old girl.
