Police in Natore have arrested 13 robbers along with stolen goods worth about Tk 1.5 crore in connection with a robbery at an under-construction power grid in Baraigram. The arrests were made from the Gajari forest area of Sreepur in Gazipur following operations across several districts. The information was disclosed by Natore Superintendent of Police Muhammad Abdul Wahab at a press conference on Friday afternoon.

According to police, ringleaders Ruhul Amin and Soikat planned the robbery while in jail and executed it on the night of March 25 after their release. The gang tied up four guards and looted materials worth Tk 1.93 crore, transporting them by truck. The following day, Assistant Manager Anik Kumar Biswas filed a case with Baraigram Police Station. Subsequent operations led to the recovery of 350 battery cells, 10 mobile phones, and other items, as well as the seizure of the truck used in the robbery.

After initial interrogation, the 13 arrested suspects were sent to Natore District Jail on Friday evening, confirmed the investigating officer, SI Shamim Hossain.

At least twelve people were injured in a clash between two groups in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah after a shopkeeper refused to sell tea on credit. The incident occurred on Friday morning in the Khaldharpara area of the municipal town. Police were deployed in the area following the violence.

The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has ordered the demolition of an under-construction bridge in Agailjhara upazila of Barishal after confirming that bamboo sticks were used instead of steel rods in its concrete structure. On Thursday afternoon, LGED engineer Rabindra Chakraborty inspected the bridge built over the Dushumi-Karim Bazar canal in Ratnapur Union and found bamboo attached to the northern end of the bridge during casting. A three-month-old baby was allegedly suffocated to death by his stepfather in the Darussalam area of Mirpur, Dhaka, early Friday, April 17, 2026. A Dhaka court has granted a three-day remand for retired Lieutenant Colonel Md. He was taken to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and later transferred to City Care General Hospital, where he died on July 21, 2024. Delwar’s wife, Liza, filed the case at Mirpur Model Police Station on July 6, 2025.

Social media content creator A M Hasan Nasim was taken from his residence in Dhaka’s Agargaon area by a team of Detective Branch (DB) police on Friday, April 17, shortly after evening prayers. Saiful Islam, convener of the Kamalpur Union unit of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal in Saghatta, Gaibandha, has been expelled again following his arrest for alleged involvement in drug trafficking. The expulsion was announced on Thursday, April 16, 2026, through a press release signed by district Jubo Dal president Ragib Hasan Chowdhury and general secretary Abdur Razzak Bhuttu.

Attorney General Barrister Md. Ruhul Kuddus (Kajal) handed over office assistant Md. A group identifying itself as the 'ABCD Group' has issued death threats to officials involved in toll collection at Eidgaon Market in Cox’s Bazar. On April 12, leaflets appeared across the market, the Upazila and Union land offices, and nearby areas, warning that anyone collecting tolls would face fatal consequences. The leaflets specifically named several local officials and claimed that only the group would control toll collection at the market.

Following the circulation of the leaflets, local residents and traders expressed concern over the threats and speculated about the identity of those responsible. Attempts to reach the acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Md. Fazle Rabbani Chowdhury, for comment were unsuccessful. However, his assistant Rubel confirmed that the threats began before the Bengali New Year and that the matter had been reported to the administration. He added that tolls were being collected under official supervision as per regulations.
