Bihar Police have arrested a 22-year-old man accused of offering to assassinate Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in exchange for money. The suspect, Aman Tiwari from Araria village in Bihar’s Buxar district, allegedly emailed the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in October 2025, claiming he could carry out the act within 22 days. He was arrested on April 8, 2026, and police seized his laptop and other electronic devices, sealing his residence.

According to Buxar Superintendent of Police Shubham Arya, Tiwari, who is unemployed, sent the email seeking payment for compromising the Prime Minister’s security. Investigators believe his motive was financial, as he demanded money in exchange for confidential information. During interrogation, Tiwari gave inconsistent statements but admitted to writing the email for monetary gain.

Police have detained two additional individuals for questioning and are examining possible links. Forensic teams are analyzing the seized devices, and no evidence has yet been found implicating Tiwari’s family members in the crime.

In Pabna’s Bhangura upazila, allegations have surfaced against a contractor for using substandard and burnt brick chips in a road repair project worth about Tk 3.32 crore under the 2025–26 fiscal year rural road maintenance program. The project, covering 3,576 meters from Bheramara Bazar to Hatgram, was awarded to Kushtia-based Saikat Enterprise, with a Pabna sub-contractor reportedly handling the work. The project is scheduled for completion by June 30.

Field visits revealed that after inspection by senior officials, a mix of low-quality and good brick chips continued to be used, with no supervising engineer present on-site. Locals said poor materials had been used from the start and had lodged verbal complaints. LGED Deputy Director Momin Mojibul Haque confirmed the allegations during his inspection and ordered the removal of substandard materials, but the directive was reportedly ignored.

The acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer warned that if the poor-quality materials were not removed, action would be taken against those responsible.

A violent clash between representatives of two insurance companies left more than fifty people injured in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj district. The incident occurred on Saturday night, April 11, in Choushatpur village under Sadar Union. According to police and local sources, the conflict began when Ahmad Ali of Delta Life Insurance and Mauld Hossain of Pragati Life Insurance argued over client recruitment and related benefits. The dispute quickly escalated, drawing in supporters from both sides.

The confrontation turned violent as both groups used local weapons, leading to an hour-long clash that injured over fifty individuals. The wounded were taken to Nabiganj Upazila Health Complex and other nearby hospitals for treatment. Police from Nabiganj station arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.

Nabiganj police officials confirmed that the violence stemmed from a dispute over customer acquisition between the two insurance companies and that the situation has since returned to normal.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard detained an Indian citizen in Bhola on April 11, 2026, for allegedly entering the country illegally. Acting on a tip-off, a Coast Guard team arrested Abdul Momin, 34, from the area near the Kheyaghat Bridge in Bhola Sadar upazila. He is the son of Bosar Ali and Hajera Khatun from Bashpukur village under Jatrapur police station in Sipahijala, India.

According to Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Mohammad Abul Kashem, Momin admitted during interrogation that he had crossed into Bangladesh on April 7, 2026, through the Birampur border in Dinajpur with the help of a drug trafficking group. He reportedly entered the country to go into hiding. The Coast Guard later handed him over to Bhola Sadar police for legal action.

Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Monirul Islam of Bhola Sadar Model Police Station confirmed that a case has been filed against Momin for illegal entry under case number 25 dated April 11, 2026. He will be sent to court for further proceedings.

A local leader of the Weavers’ League in Khulna was hacked to death by unidentified assailants late Saturday night. The victim, identified as Sonamiya, aged 38, was the convener of the organization’s Ward No. 10 unit. The attack occurred around 12:15 a.m. in the Nayabati area of Khalishpur in Khulna city. Police confirmed the incident through the Khalishpur Police Station duty officer.

According to local accounts, Sonamiya was inside his tea shop when three attackers arrived on a motorcycle and entered the shop. They assaulted him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. He attempted to flee to a nearby house for safety, but the assailants followed and attacked him again. Locals rescued him and took him first to Khalishpur Clinic and later to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The attackers reportedly wore masks and a helmet and fled the scene immediately after the assault. Police have not yet identified the perpetrators or the motive behind the killing.

A large-scale fraud allegation has surfaced in Keraniganj, Dhaka, involving around 10,000 investors and hundreds of crores of taka. The accused is Naznin Akter Usha Nazim, daughter of former Shuvadda Union Parishad chairman Nazim Uddin and managing director of International Amusement Club. Victims claim they were denied promised plots, dividends, or refunds and instead faced threats and harassment. The projects include Bashundhara Riverview, Hasnabad Housing, Chandarchar BCRSP, and several others launched by Nazim Uddin before his death in 2013.

After Nazim Uddin’s death, his family inherited his assets, and Usha became the club’s managing director. The club’s operations stopped, and investors allege Usha secretly sold properties. In January 2025, victims filed a case against Nazim’s family members, accusing them of embezzlement and intimidation. Usha denies wrongdoing, calling the allegations false, though she admits selling some project lands and refusing refunds to permanent members.

The projects remain inactive, and thousands of investors are yet to recover their money. The dispute has left the International Amusement Club defunct and its members without resolution.

At least 21 villagers were killed in an attack by armed bandits in Zamfara state, northern Nigeria, according to local residents cited by AFP on Saturday. The assault occurred on Friday in Bunkasau village of Bukkuyum district, where dozens of gunmen arrived on about 80 motorcycles. Villagers attempted to resist, leading to a gun battle between the two sides.

Renowned Bangladeshi physician Professor Kamrul Islam, known for performing over two thousand kidney transplants free of charge and recipient of the Independence Award, has reportedly become a victim of extortion. The incident has sparked widespread discussion across the country. Opposition leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman addressed the issue in a Facebook post on Saturday, demanding visible punishment for those responsible.

In his post, Rahman described Dr. Kamrul Islam as a compassionate doctor and friend of the poor, widely respected for his humanitarian service. He alleged that a politically backed extortion group had long been pressuring the doctor for illegal payments, which he consistently refused. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 1,400 rounds of ammunition during an operation in Panchhari upazila of Khagrachhari district. The operation took place on Friday afternoon in the remote Kathaltali area of Bauddhamonipara, following intelligence about an ammunition shipment. BGB reported the recovery in a press release on Saturday morning, confirming that no suspects were detained.

According to BGB, a patrol team led by Naib Subedar Md. Shah Alam of the Bauddhamonipara border outpost under the 3 BGB Battalion intercepted two motorcycles carrying four suspects. The suspects fled into the hilly area, abandoning their motorcycles and a bag that contained the ammunition. BGB stated that while returning from the site, its members were surrounded by a group of armed men, but reinforcements led by Acting Commander Major S.M. Imrul Kayes arrived promptly, forcing the attackers to retreat.

Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Robiul Islam said BGB maintains a zero-tolerance policy against illegal arms, ammunition, and smuggling along the border and that intelligence surveillance and patrols have been intensified.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is preparing an impartial list of extortionists across Bangladesh, including Dhaka, with plans to take swift legal action against all identified offenders once the list is finalized. The announcement was made by Wing Commander M Z M Intekhab Chowdhury, Director of RAB’s Legal and Media Wing, during a press briefing at the RAB Media Center in Karwan Bazar on Saturday afternoon.

The briefing, originally organized to discuss a major yaba seizure in Chattogram, also addressed the ongoing initiative to identify extortionists. According to RAB, the list is being compiled under directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Fifteen RAB battalions have already begun field operations and strengthened intelligence surveillance to ensure accuracy and neutrality. Officials emphasized that no one on the list will be exempt from legal consequences.

RAB stated that the list will be completely unbiased, with no favoritism or political influence, and that action will be taken strictly against proven offenders.

A Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) operation in Chattogram’s Patenga area led to the seizure of 500,000 yaba tablets worth Tk 150 million from a fishing trawler on Friday night, April 10. The raid took place at the 15 No. Ghat area under Patenga Police Station, confirmed by RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) A. R. M. Mozzafar Hossain. Nine individuals were arrested during the operation, including five Rohingya refugees and four residents of Cox’s Bazar.

According to RAB sources, the drug consignment was being transported by sea from the Cox’s Bazar border area toward Chattogram. When RAB personnel arrived at the scene around 9:30 p.m., several suspects attempted to flee but were captured after a chase. The yaba tablets were later recovered from the trawler’s engine room.

RAB stated that the detainees had long been involved in smuggling yaba from border areas at low prices and distributing them across Chattogram for profit. Legal action has been initiated against all nine suspects.

A video showing a brick kiln worker being tied and beaten in Lakshmipur’s Kamalnagar upazila has gone viral on social media. The incident occurred on April 9 in the Moulvirhat area of Torabganj Union. The victim, identified as Kalu from Charbosu Badamtoli Bazar, was allegedly taken from his in-laws’ house by Ismail, a labor supplier, and assaulted with his hands bound. The six-minute video shows Kalu being beaten and verbally abused while being forced to make promises.

According to local sources, Kalu had agreed to work at a brick kiln in Chattogram for Tk 80,000 but returned home due to illness. Ismail reportedly brought him back from his in-laws’ house, tied him up, and coerced him to have his brothers work in his place. After the video spread online, locals demanded justice. Police later rescued Kalu, while Ismail went into hiding.

Police confirmed that the victim was rescued and said efforts are ongoing to arrest the accused.

Police in Feni have arrested Jubo League leader Delwar Hossain Dalim, aged 45, in connection with a murder case linked to the July Movement. He was detained during a raid at his sister’s residence in Dhaka’s Pallabi area on Friday night and sent to jail through the court on Saturday afternoon.

According to police sources, Dalim, who serves as the organizational secretary of Feni District Jubo League and is a former chairman of Kalidah Union Parishad, is known as a close associate of local politician Nizam Uddin Hazari. He has been named in six cases related to the violent incidents that occurred in Mohipal on August 4, 2024. Additionally, Feni Model Police Station has issued three more arrest warrants against him.

The officer-in-charge of Feni Model Police Station, Gazi Muhammad Fouzol Azim, stated that the exact number of cases against Dalim could not yet be confirmed. Law enforcement authorities said investigations into the cases are ongoing.

A group of drug dealers allegedly attacked Jubo Dal leader Zahid Uddin in Cumilla’s Adarsha Sadar upazila after he tried to stop them from using yaba. The incident occurred on April 10 in the Chapapur area of Jagannathpur Union, shortly after Friday prayers. Zahid Uddin, the joint convener of the upazila Jubo Dal, was seriously injured and is now receiving treatment at Cumilla Medical College Hospital.

Local sources said drug trading has long been active in the border-adjacent area. Following the formation of anti-drug committees under the BNP-led government, tensions rose among local drug dealers. Residents reported that the attackers also injured another man named Rubel, who had earlier informed the anti-drug committee about local drug use. Both victims said the attackers used sharp weapons during the assault.

Victims and local residents believe the attack was retaliation for their anti-drug activities. They have demanded a proper investigation and justice. Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station’s officer-in-charge said no formal complaint had been received yet but assured action once a report is filed.

A video showing a crocodile dragging a dog from the steps of the pond at the historic Khan Jahan Ali shrine in Bagerhat has gone viral on social media, prompting widespread discussion and criticism. The footage shows the crocodile approaching the dog, biting it, and submerging, while onlookers watched without intervening. The apparent inaction of the spectators has drawn questions from the public.

Local residents later clarified that the dog had been aggressive for several days, attacking people around the shrine area. According to nearby resident Russel and shrine attendant Bina, the dog was not deliberately offered to the crocodile, and misinformation had spread online. They said the dog reached the pond steps while fleeing locals, and the crocodile appeared there coincidentally.

Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Atia Khatun stated that the district administration formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident. The committee is verifying the facts and will confirm the actual circumstances after completing the inquiry.
