He reaffirmed the police’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drugs.

Addressing a question on fuel shortages and black market sales, the IGP said that collecting fuel from a few petrol pumps and selling it at a slightly higher price brings little profit, emphasizing the need for moral awareness in society.

Police in Ranisankail, Thakurgaon, arrested a 25-year-old Hindu man named Bidhan Roy on Friday afternoon for allegedly posting a derogatory comment about Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) on Facebook. The arrest took place in Parkunda village under Nekmarad Union, where Roy, son of Malin Chandra Roy, resides.

Police have arrested Jamaat-e-Islami leader Engineer Mizanur Rahman Mizan, aged 35, in connection with a case filed over the assault and altercation involving police officers at Palashbari Police Station in Gaibandha. The arrest was confirmed on Friday afternoon by Officer-in-Charge Sarwar Alam Khan. Mizan was detained early Friday morning from his home in Gridharipur village during a joint operation by Palashbari police and the Detective Branch.

According to the report, Mizanur Rahman Mizan serves as the current secretary of the professional wing of Palashbari Upazila Jamaat and is the son of Golam Mostafa. He previously held positions as the municipal Jamaat amir and president of the upazila unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir. The case stems from a March 25 incident when several Jamaat youth leaders visited the police station to submit a complaint, leading to a confrontation and attack that injured eight police officers, including the OC.

Following the incident, a case was filed naming nine individuals and several unidentified others. The Palashbari Upazila Jamaat branch has formed an internal investigation committee to review the matter.

A young man named Russel Biswas, aged 25, was critically injured after being attacked with sharp weapons inside the Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex in Gopalganj on Friday morning. The assault occurred around 8:30 a.m. when several men allegedly entered the hospital and attacked him. Russel, son of Jamal Biswas from Barshapara village, was later transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment due to his critical condition.

Former Director General of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) Lieutenant General (Retd.) Sheikh Mamun Khaled was arrested late Wednesday night from his residence in Mirpur DOHS, Dhaka, by the Detective Branch of police. He was produced before a court on Thursday, which granted a five-day remand in connection with a murder case. The arrest follows allegations that he misappropriated army officers’ deposits and built a vast business network known as the Sublime Group using embezzled funds.

According to the report, Mamun Khaled, while overseeing the Jalshiri housing project, signed multiple contracts with a private developer and allegedly diverted large sums intended for army officers. Thousands of serving and retired officers reportedly lost hundreds of crores of taka. He is accused of establishing at least seven companies, including Sublime Network, Sublime IT, and Sublime Bangladesh, during his tenure at DGFI. Additional allegations include misuse of government property and manipulation of project expenses.

Police in Palashbari, Gaibandha, arrested one person following an alleged attack on officers inside the local police station on the night of March 25, 2026. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two individuals in connection with the shooting death of Jubo Dal leader Golam Kibria in Dhaka’s Mirpur Pallabi area. A mobile court in Sherpur fined a trader for illegally storing 18,000 liters of diesel in a residential building. A robber was killed and a businessman injured during a mugging attempt in Khulna’s Dighalia upazila late Thursday night. The incident occurred near the Deyara Steamer Ghat area when four robbers tried to snatch money from businessman Touhidul Islam as he was returning home after closing his grocery and flexiload shop. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Bangladesh has found major discrepancies in journalist Munni Saha’s fixed deposit accounts and summoned her for questioning. According to the report, she was interrogated on July 30, 2024, after investigators detected inconsistencies involving about Tk 12 crore in her fixed deposits. The ACC also revealed that Tk 120 crore was withdrawn from one of her accounts after August 5, 2024, following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government. The ACC reported that Saha’s total assets amount to Tk 13.81 crore, while her declared income stands at Tk 3.24 crore. Her husband, Kabir Hossain, reportedly holds Tk 16.67 crore in assets against an income of Tk 8.17 crore. Investigators allege that Saha earned money through illegal means and attempted to transfer it abroad, violating the Money Laundering Prevention Act of 2012. She has not provided satisfactory explanations for the discrepancies and requested more time.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Saim, the prime accused in the widely discussed Munna murder case in Bogura. The arrest was made during a joint operation by RAB-12 Bogura and RAB-1 Uttara, Dhaka. The development was confirmed at a press briefing held at the RAB-12 Bogura camp on Thursday night, March 26, 2026, by Squadron Leader Firoz Ahmed, the company commander.

According to RAB, Saim, aged 36, is the son of the late Azizur Rahman from Shaharpukur area of Fapore Union in Bogura Sadar. The victim, Ariful Islam Munna, aged 43, was from the same union’s Khandkarpara area. Preliminary investigation revealed that both men were involved in drug trading and had disputes over drug transactions. Munna had also filed a cheque fraud case against Saim months earlier, which is still under trial.

RAB reported that Saim attacked Munna with a sharp Burmese knife on March 23, leading to Munna’s death the next morning. After remaining fugitive, Saim was captured in Dhaka’s Turag area and handed over to Bogura Sadar Police for legal proceedings.

Five people, including four members of the same family, were killed in a road accident on Thursday evening in the Kalakchua area of Burichong upazila, Cumilla, along the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. in front of the Miami Hotel when a Chattogram-bound Star Line bus hit a private car from behind, crushing the vehicle. Four people died on the spot, and another succumbed to injuries later.
