Police in Patgram, Lalmonirhat, arrested Sohel Rana, the municipal leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, around 2:40 p.m. He was detained in front of the BRAC office in Patgram. Two people were killed and more than a hundred others injured in a violent clash between residents of ten villages in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. in Goalanagar Union, where two rival groups, known as the Choura and Honaro communities, confronted each other over a longstanding dispute.

A woman named Halima Kayser Bokul, aged 55, died after falling into an empty elevator shaft in Dhaka’s Demra area on Sunday night. An armed attack took place at the home of Engineer Osman Gani, general secretary of the Sarafbhata Union unit of the BNP in Rangunia upazila of Chattogram, on Sunday night, March 22, 2026. Osman Gani sustained gunshot wounds to his hand and abdomen, while his 70-year-old mother, Asiya Begum, was shot in the leg. His father, Rashid Ahmad, was also injured in the head. According to reports, a group of three to four armed assailants carried out the attack around 8:10 p.m. at Ganjam Ali Sarkar’s house in Ward No. 2 of the union. His parents are receiving treatment and are out of danger, doctors confirmed.

Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) announced that efforts are underway to bring back two suspects arrested in India in connection with the murder of Inquilab Manch leader Shahid Sharif Osman Hadi. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are jointly coordinating the repatriation process, according to DB Additional Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam at a press briefing on March 22 in Dhaka.

The two main suspects, Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain, were arrested on March 8 by the West Bengal Police Special Task Force in Bongaon, North 24 Parganas district. After a four-day remand, they were presented before the Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Court on Sunday. During the court appearance, Masud claimed he was innocent and suggested the murder might be part of a political conspiracy.

At the same press briefing, the DB chief also discussed post-Eid security in Dhaka, noting that law and order remained stable and police patrols have been intensified across key city areas.

Faisal Karim Masud, the prime accused in the murder of Shahid Sharif Osman Hadi, and his associate Alamgir Hossain were sent to jail by a West Bengal court after police interrogation. Faisal denied involvement in the killing during a court appearance following their arrest near the India-Bangladesh border in Bongaon on March 8. The Special Task Force (STF) had detained them for alleged illegal entry and questioned them for 14 days before presenting them to the Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Judicial Court, which ordered 12 days of judicial custody. They are scheduled to appear again on April 2.

According to STF sources, both Faisal and Alamgir admitted during interrogation to their role in the Dhaka murder of Osman Hadi, who was shot on December 12 last year.
