A shocking incident occurred in Khudiram Sarkarpara of Goaland municipality, Rajbari, where a drug-addicted youth attacked his mother for refusing to give him money. The victim, 40-year-old Shikha Rani Ghosh, was severely injured and is now in critical condition at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The attack took place around 3 a.m. on April 10, when her son, 19-year-old Gobinda Ghosh, struck her repeatedly with a machete while she was asleep, severing her left ear and causing deep wounds to her head and neck.

According to police and family sources, Shikha Rani had been living with her son at her parental home after her husband left her about 20 years ago. Gobinda had become addicted to drugs and frequently quarreled with his mother over money. After the attack, neighbors rescued the injured woman and took her to several hospitals before she was transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.

Local residents detained Gobinda inside the house and alerted police. Officers from Goaland Ghat Police Station arrested him and seized the blood-stained machete and other evidence. A case has been filed by the victim’s mother, Usha Rani Ghosh, and the accused has been sent to Rajbari court.

Drug-addicted son attacks sleeping mother in Rajbari, leaving her critically injured

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered five anti-personnel landmines and various explosive materials near the Naikhongchhari border in Cox’s Bazar. The operation was conducted on April 9 by a patrol team from the Targupara Border Outpost under the 11 BGB Battalion. The recovered items included five suspected improvised explosive devices, a metal detector, a solar panel, dry food, mobile phones, power banks, and civilian clothing. The discovery was made between border pillars 53 and 54 near the zero line.

BGB’s Ramu Sector confirmed the recovery in a briefing on April 10, led by Lieutenant Colonel Fayezul Kabir. The explosives were secured with sandbags and marked with red flags. For public safety, vehicle movement in the area was temporarily suspended, and additional patrols were deployed. A general diary was filed at Naikhongchhari Police Station, and coordination was initiated to deploy an army bomb disposal team.

In a separate operation the same day, the 34 BGB Battalion recovered flammable chemicals from the Baishfari area. BGB stated that intelligence surveillance and coordinated security measures have been intensified to prevent sabotage and ensure border safety.

BGB recovers landmines and explosives near Naikhongchhari border in Cox’s Bazar

A fire that broke out at the Chittagong Shopping Complex near Gate No. 2 in Chattogram city was brought under control after two hours of effort by six units of the Fire Service around noon on April 11, 2026. Fire at Chittagong Shopping Complex contained after two hours; investigation launched

A pedestrian was killed and three others injured in a four-vehicle collision on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway in Mirsarai on Friday night. The accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the South Sonapahar area of Jorarganj Union when a pickup, two covered vans, and a steel-laden truck collided. During the crash, a five-ton steel bundle fell from the truck, crushing a pedestrian who was crossing the road. The deceased was identified as Ashraf, 18, of Durgapur Union’s Chaitanyerhat area.

Fire service, police, and locals conducted a rescue operation after receiving an emergency call through the national helpline 999. The injured were taken to Mirsarai Upazila Health Complex, and two critically injured victims were later transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Ashraf died there while undergoing treatment.

Police later cleared the damaged vehicles and restored traffic flow on the highway, according to Jorarganj Highway Police Station officials.

Pedestrian dies after steel bundle falls from truck in Mirsarai highway crash

A mobile court in Bakshiganj upazila of Jamalpur fined a man named Md Jamrul Mia Tk 50,000 for illegally storing and selling petrol and diesel at nearly twice the government-fixed price. The operation took place on Friday night, April 10, 2026, in front of the Messrs Paresh Chandra Saha Filling Station at Tinanipara. The drive was led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Asma-ul Husna.

According to the operation report, Jamrul Mia had long been storing fuel at his own shop and selling it at inflated prices, creating an artificial shortage. Fire at Chittagong Shopping Complex brought under control by six fire service units

Unconscious student rescued from Kushtia school; two staff detained for questioning

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified operations in the southwest border region to curb illegal hoarding and smuggling of fuel and edible oil. The Jessore Region, covering about 600 kilometers across Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, Jessore, Satkhira, and Khulna, is conducting 464 patrols daily through two sectors, seven battalions, and 116 border outposts. Ahead of the Bengali New Year and Eid-ul-Azha, special security measures have been reinforced along the border.

Enhanced surveillance has been placed at Benapole, Bhomra, and Darshana land ports, with 2,325 patrols, 899 checkpoints, and 868 community meetings conducted. A total of 31 task force operations involving local administration, army, RAB, police, and customs led to one conviction with a two-month jail term and a fine. Additional patrols and checkpoints have been set up to prevent cattle intrusion and leather smuggling ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

In the first three months of 2026, the Jessore Region seized goods worth Tk 589.3 million and detained 88 suspects, including gold, diamonds, silver, weapons, and narcotics valued at Tk 221.3 million.

The seized substances are being sent to the Chattogram divisional chemical laboratory for testing.

BGB recovers landmines and explosives near Naikhongchhari border in Cox’s Bazar

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 93 people in separate operations conducted by its Tejgaon Division and Hazaribagh Police Station. The arrests took place on Thursday and Friday, according to DMP Media Division Deputy Commissioner NM Nasir Uddin. Officers seized seven yaba tablets and 18 packets of marijuana during the operation. Police stated that the drives were part of ongoing efforts to curb crime and maintain public order in the capital.

Dhaka police arrest 93 in Tejgaon and Hazaribagh operations to maintain order

Barishal teacher seeks probe into husband’s mysterious death in Dhaka home

The Forest Department recovered three locally made guns and four cartridges during a raid in the Sundarbans near Satkhira on Friday morning. The operation took place in the Bainatola area of Kanchir Khal under the Kobadak Station of the Satkhira Range. No suspects were detained during the operation.

According to Forest Department sources, forest guards noticed suspicious movement during a routine patrol and chased suspected forest robbers, who fled the scene. A subsequent search led to the recovery of the abandoned firearms and ammunition. Fazlul Haque, an officer at the Burigoalini Forest Station, said the department remains firm in its stance against forest crimes and has intensified regular patrols and special operations to protect forest resources and wildlife.

The recovered weapons and ammunition are in the process of being handed over to the police for further action.

Forest Department recovers abandoned guns and cartridges in Sundarbans raid near Satkhira

Four staff members, including security personnel Moniruzzaman, Russell Hossain, and Ujjal, were injured, with three admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal.

University officials confirmed that the situation was brought under control and the student was handed to police. Law enforcement stated that legal action would be taken following the incident.

Expelled Barishal University examinee assaults staff, later handed to police

Police in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar conducted a special operation and recovered 30,000 yaba tablets. The operation, led by Sub-Inspector Anup Kumar of Ramu Police Station, took place late Thursday night. During the raid, officers detained a man named Ziaur Rahman, aged 36, from Srimura Purba Para area of Chakmarkul Union’s Ward No. 7.

According to police sources, the yaba tablets were found hidden beneath the driver’s seat of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw based on information provided by the detainee. Ziaur Rahman is the son of Abdul Hasim, a resident of Srimura in Chakmarkul Union. The police have confirmed that legal proceedings related to the incident are currently underway, as stated by Ramu Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam Bhuiyan.

Police recover 30,000 yaba tablets in Ramu, one suspect detained

A Rohingya youth lost his leg in a landmine explosion near the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, on Friday morning. The blast occurred around 10:30 a.m. near border pillar BRM-21, within the Balukhali Border Outpost area. The mine, reportedly planted by Myanmar’s armed rebel group Arakan Army, detonated about 150 meters inside Myanmar territory. The injured, identified as Md. Sadek, 25, from Block F-13 of Camp 10 in Ukhiya, was first taken to the MSF hospital in Kutupalong and later referred to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Zahirul Islam, commanding officer of the 64th Border Guard Battalion in Ukhiya, confirmed the incident and urged residents near the border to remain cautious. Local sources noted that landmine explosions in the border area are not new. On March 29, a similar explosion at the Balukhali border injured a 15-year-old Rohingya boy named Abdul Hakim from Camp 19.

The repeated incidents have raised safety concerns for Rohingya refugees and residents living close to the volatile frontier.
