Planning Adviser Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud has assured that the upcoming national budget will be responsible and sustainable. “It will not burden the next fiscal year,” he said. While the size of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) has been reduced, allocations will be increased in health and education. Around 2,500 doctors and healthcare workers will be recruited, and operating funds for the health sector will be adjusted accordingly. Provisions for repaying teacher welfare dues and other debts have also been included. The budget aims to control inflation, increase revenue collection, reduce foreign debt, improve implementation capacity, and ensure a sustainable economic framework.

Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that the investigation into the murder of Dhaka University student Shahriar Alam Samya will be handed over to the Detective Branch (DB). A delegation led by DU Vice Chancellor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan met the adviser at the Ministry of Home Affairs. Following the meeting, Professor Hosne Ara Begum stated that they demanded swift and fair justice. Samya’s friend, SS Nahin Islam, said they had given Shahbagh police a 48-hour deadline but saw no significant progress. The adviser assured them that the DB would take over the investigation and that a special tribunal would be set up for trial.

The UN Human Rights Office has launched an investigation into allegations that Indian authorities forcibly deported around 40 Rohingya refugees into the sea. Reports say the refugees were blindfolded and transported to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where they were put on an Indian Navy ship and forced to swim to an island inside Myanmar’s maritime border. The UN further alleges that approximately 100 Rohingyas were moved from a detention center in Assam to an undisclosed location near the Bangladesh border. The UN stressed that any forced repatriation of refugees must stop immediately and has appointed a special expert to lead the investigation.

Inspector Sujan Haque of Vatara Police Station confirmed that actress Nusrat Faria has been formally arrested in connection with an attempted murder case. She was initially detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while en route to Thailand. Following preliminary questioning at the airport, she was transferred to Vatara Police Station. Sources say there was an active arrest warrant against her, and she has now been shown as arrested under that warrant.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan has confirmed that actress Nusrat Faria is being interrogated at the Detective Branch (DB) office. She was detained by immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday while attempting to travel to Thailand. Faria is named in an attempted murder case filed at Vatara Police Station during a recent mass uprising. However, she has not yet been officially shown as arrested in the case, according to Officer-in-Charge Mazaharul Islam.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated a probe into the alleged accumulation of illegal wealth by Sheikh Hasina. A special investigation team, led by ACC Deputy Director Masudur Rahman, has been tasked with verifying her asset declarations and scrutinizing her income tax records to uncover any discrepancies.

This is part of a broader crackdown by the ACC, which is currently investigating cases involving plot forgery, money laundering abroad, and embezzlement of project funds. Arrest warrants have already been issued based on preliminary findings in several of these cases.

Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser to the Government, has emphasized the need for a coordinated effort by all ministries to eliminate child labour in Bangladesh.

He noted that child labour is still prevalent across the country, particularly in farming, fishing, and brick kilns. Many children are deprived of education and are forced into work due to their families’ financial struggles—negatively affecting their health and development.

The adviser stated that the National Child Welfare Council is working to ensure children's rights, protection, and overall development. He added that national steering committees, along with district and upazila-level bodies, are actively working on this issue, while NGOs are also implementing projects focused on education and child development.

Following nearly 50 hours of continuous protests at Kakrail intersection, the government has agreed to fulfill the three-point demand of Jagannath University students. A special committee will be formed to oversee the implementation.

The committee will be led by a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and will include the Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University, two additional secretaries from the Education and Planning Ministries, and a representative from the armed forces. Additional technical experts may be included if needed.

UGC Chairman Prof. S.M.A. Faiz stated, "The university campus and residential halls will be developed urgently. I've personally visited the campus—there is no space to stand or sit. This is not a sustainable environment. The university will receive increased funding."

Chaired by the Chief Adviser, the National Economic Council (NEC) has approved a Tk 2.3 trillion Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the fiscal year 2025-26—Tk 350 billion less than the previous year. Of the total allocation, Tk 1.44 trillion will come from the government’s own funds, while Tk 860 billion is expected from foreign assistance. An additional Tk 85.99 billion will be contributed by implementing agencies from their own sources, bringing the total ADP size to Tk 2.385 trillion.

Sector-wise allocation includes:

25.64% for transport and communications

14.8% for power and energy

12.42% for education

9.9% for housing and community facilities

7.89% for health

Together, these five sectors account for 69.93% of the total ADP allocation.

A Dhaka court has allowed two days of jail-gate interrogation for Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson of the Sanatani Jagoron Jote, in connection with cases of murder and sedition. APP Advocate Md. Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury stated that investigators sought one day each for questioning in both cases. The court granted the requests after a hearing at 11:30 a.m. Police say Das was linked to multiple cases, including the murder of Saiful Islam Alif.

Students have surrounded Shahbagh Police Station after the 48-hour deadline to arrest the accused in Shahriar Alam Samya’s murder expired. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said, “Justice must be ensured above politics.” Fellow students alleged political pressure and bribery are obstructing the arrest of the main suspect. Police claim that most of the suspects have been identified but are evading arrest by frequently changing locations.

During preliminary talks with Jamaat-e-Islami, political analyst Ali Riaz emphasized that building national consensus is not just the responsibility of the National Consensus Commission but also of political parties, civil society, and other stakeholders. He said multiple issues have already seen agreement, while some disagreements remain. Jamaat has asked for policy reconsiderations on certain matters, and further discussions are expected. “We don’t expect to resolve everything in one round, but progress is certainly possible,” Riaz noted.

The Election Commission’s vast national ID database is under serious technical risk due to the absence of an active disaster recovery system. The main database uses five open-source systems with no enterprise-level support. Built over 18 years, this database has no integrated international-standard backup tool. In case of a cyberattack or major accident, all NID-related services may be suspended for an extended period, including the printing of voter lists. The EC acknowledged the risk and said it is implementing recommendations from the cyber audit committee to ensure future security.

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Legal Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul have arrived in South Africa to gain firsthand experience before the formation of Bangladesh’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission. They were welcomed at the airport by Bangladesh’s Ambassador to South Africa, Shah Ahmed Shafi. The delegation is scheduled to meet with officials of South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Earlier, Dr. Nazrul announced the commission’s formation during a consultation on the draft of the "Prevention and Remedy of Enforced Disappearance Ordinance 2025."
