Chinmoy Das, the spokesperson for the Sanatani Jagarone Jot, has been ordered to be arrested in the lawyer Alif murder case in Chittagong. He appeared virtually from jail during the hearing. The police had previously filed for his arrest on Sunday in connection with the murder of lawyer Alif, which occurred on November 26 last year. The attack followed the denial of bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson of the Sanatani Jagaron Mancha, during a clash at the Khalur shop in the Feni region.

Starting Monday, nearly 400,000 government primary school teachers will engage in an hour-long work stoppage demanding their promotion to the 11th grade. Previously, the government had agreed to upgrade assistant teachers to the 12th grade, but the teachers now demand at least the 11th grade for their pay. The strike will continue until May 15th, with plans for escalating protests through May 26th if their demands are not met.

In protest against the murder of Maulana Rais Uddin, a prominent imam, the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jama'at Bangladesh has announced plans for a nationwide road and highway blockade. Rais, the imam of a mosque in Pubail, was brutally tortured and handed over to the police by local elements on Sunday, where he later died in custody. His supporters are demanding justice, with no arrests made so far.

In April, Bangladesh received $2.75 billion in remittance, the second-highest monthly figure recorded by the Bangladesh Bank. Hefazat Secretary General Sajedur Rahman has said that those accusing the organization of misogyny in relation to the effigy of Sheikh Hasina are nothing but allies of the Awami League, enemies of the July Revolution. He claims the incident was a result of public anger toward Hasina, calling her a fascist responsible for mass killings. Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has instructed the formation of a high-level committee to ensure proper management of sacrificial animal hides during Eid-ul-Azha. The committee, led by the Trade Adviser, will also oversee livestock transport, humane treatment at markets, and efficient waste disposal. National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md. Abdur Rahman Khan has announced a tougher stance on individuals who evade taxes, do not file returns, or exploit tax exemptions. He emphasized the need for accountability, revealing that the government loses as much revenue from tax exemptions as it collects annually. NBR data shows a large number of TIN holders fail to submit tax returns, placing an unfair burden on regular taxpayers.

Adviser Farida Akhtar has stated that an estimated 12,447,337 sacrificial animals will be available across the country for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. Of these, around 2,068,135 animals are expected to be in surplus. The High Court has suspended the lease notification for setting up a cattle market in Aftabnagar for Eid-ul-Azha. The decision follows a petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand, who argued that hosting a market in a residential area would cause severe odor and environmental pollution. The notification had listed 11 potential market locations, including Aftabnagar.

Barrister Abdur Razzaq, former Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami and a senior lawyer at the Bangladesh Supreme Court, has passed away. He died on Sunday at 4:10 PM after a long battle with cancer. He also served as the chief adviser of the Amar Bangladesh Party. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un.

Education Adviser Prof. Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar warned that neglecting primary education will result in an incompetent and unproductive population. Addressing field officials, he stressed the importance of improving educational standards, adding, “Our future depends on it.” He directed school inspectors to focus on students’ learning outcomes and hold teachers and assistant education officers accountable for underperforming schools. He also called for disciplinary measures where necessary.
