BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, in a virtual address on Monday, extended Eid greetings and urged party leaders to stay united in the struggle to restore democracy.

“We must stand together and support one another to reclaim our voting rights,” she said.
“Your sacrifices and efforts have not been in vain, and they will not go to waste. We must collectively ensure the establishment of the people’s voting rights.”

On Monday afternoon, Detective Branch (DB) police arrested Imrul Hasan Mia, Chairman of Bethuri Union Parishad in Gopalganj’s Kashiani, in connection with the murder of central Volunteer League leader Didar.

Imrul Hasan, son of the late Enayet Hossain Mia, was a former vice president of the Kashiani Upazila Awami League. He was arrested as a suspect in the case and was sent to jail on Tuesday following a court appearance.

The incident dates back to September 13 last year, when central Volunteer League President S.M. Jilani, along with his wife, children, and party members, was en route to his home in Patgati village, Tungipara. On the way, his convoy was attacked, and Shaokat Ali Didar was beaten to death and left by the roadside.

With his second term set to end in 2028, U.S. President Donald Trump has hinted at the possibility of running for a third term—despite it being against U.S. political norms.

Trump stated that he was “not joking” about his interest in a third term but added that it was not yet time to seriously consider the matter. “There are ways to make it happen,” he suggested, sparking discussions about potential legal and constitutional maneuvers.

A political clash over a mediation meeting in Mithamain, Kishoreganj, turned deadly on Sunday, resulting in the death of Joj Mia (65), an Awami League supporter. The conflict erupted following the recent arrest of an Awami League member, escalating tensions in the area.

Speaking at an Eid gathering at Sonamia Eidgah Mosque in Lakshmipur, BNP leader Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie accused the government of suppressing public happiness for the past 16-17 years. He emphasized the need for unity to sustain peaceful celebrations in the future.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi visited the family of martyr Mir Mughda on Eid, offering condolences on behalf of acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. Mir Mughda's father became emotional, stating that his son’s sacrifice contributed to Khaleda Zia’s release and that he found solace in this.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia celebrated Eid with her family after a long time and later exchanged virtual Eid greetings with BNP leaders from London on Monday night. Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman also participated, along with senior leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, and others.

A clash erupted between Awami League and BNP supporters in Lalpur, Natore, after Eid prayers when "Joy Bangla" slogans were chanted. Awami League members allegedly opened fire, injuring a Chhatra Dal supporter, Sujat Mondal (30). Journalist Tushar Imran (22), along with three others, was also injured. A raid on the house of Awami League leader Abu Bakkar Siddique Polash led to the arrest of nine individuals.

During an Eid greeting exchange at the NCP office in Banglamotor on Monday, convenor Nahid Islam stated that their movement is focused on three agendas: justice, reform, and national assembly elections. He emphasized that ensuring justice for wrongdoers is the top priority. Nahid also announced plans to strengthen organizational activities nationwide.

On Eid day, under the directive of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Eid gifts were distributed among the injured protesters of the July 24 uprising who are currently undergoing treatment in hospitals.

On behalf of the Association of Engineers, Bangladesh, BNP central leader Aminul Haque personally handed over Eid gifts to 160 patients at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (Pangu Hospital) and the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital.

Aminul Haque assured that the families of those killed or injured in the uprising are not alone. He reiterated that if BNP comes to power through public mandate, the government will provide full support to the families of the martyrs and the injured.

After Eid prayers at Tangail Central Eidgah, BNP’s Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku declared, "We will rebuild the nation alongside anti-fascist forces." He accused the ruling party of 17 years of extreme oppression and celebrated its downfall. Over 1,313 Eid prayer gatherings took place across Tangail.

Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organizer of NCP South, offered Eid prayers at his hometown’s central Eidgah in Gopalnagar, Debidwar, Comilla. The local community was ecstatic to see him, embracing him with joy. People from various professions gathered at his family home just to catch a glimpse of him. After delivering an Eid speech, Hasnat visited the local cemetery and exchanged greetings with madrasa students.

BNP leader Mirza Abbas questioned the prolonged absence of elections, stating, "How long can we go without holding elections? Some claim that BNP resists reform discussions, but it’s they who struggle with it." He challenged the government, asking, "Which political party has unilaterally accepted the ruling party’s so-called reform proposals?" Abbas insisted that effective reforms must be implemented swiftly to hold elections, adding, "If the 31-point reform plan is followed, no further changes are necessary. It covers everything needed."

BNP is unlikely to form any political alliances before the elections but is open to collaborating with any pro-democracy party afterward, BNP leader Moin Khan told Reuters. He hinted that BNP would remain the dominant force in a post-Awami League scenario. Meanwhile, NCP leaders claim that Bangladeshis are frustrated with the two established parties and seek change.

After Eid-ul-Fitr prayers, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman visited the family of martyr Farhan from the mass uprising. He exchanged Eid greetings with Farhan’s parents and other family members, inquired about their well-being, and prayed for the departed soul. Earlier, addressing the nation after Eid prayers, he asserted, "Those responsible for this killing must be brought to justice so that the martyr’s family can find some solace."
