"Some of her concerns need to be understood through dialogue. Not all her allegations can be dismissed outright, nor can they all be accepted without scrutiny," Sarjis added. He emphasized the importance of collaboration to address issues constructively within the evolving post-uprising context.

Senior BNP leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has dismissed doubts about the February 2026 national elections. "There are no signs indicating the election will not be held on time. Preparations are underway across the country," he said. Khosru criticized those questioning the electoral process without cause, saying such efforts only disrupt the democratic process. He also accused certain political groups of exploiting local incidents—such as the recent events in Cumilla—for electioneering purposes. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has condemned the rape of a Hindu woman in Muradnagar, calling it a "heinous act." He warned against politicizing the incident, stating that some vested interests are trying to use it for political gain. "Criminals emboldened by impunity are continuing their misdeeds. Perpetrators of violence against women must not have political protection," he said. Fakhrul also claimed that Muradnagar's local BNP advisor, since his appointment, has been behaving like ruling party MPs—trying to exert dominance in the area. He further expressed concern that the repression of minorities, as seen in authoritarian regimes, is once again being repeated.

BNP Chairperson's Advisor Fazlur Rahman has alleged that he was barred from entering Bangladesh for years by former President Abdul Hamid. "Hamid kept me imprisoned under false sedition charges and refused to let me return," he stated. Rahman further claimed that Abdul Hamid now survives politically only through the mercy of Jamaat-e-Islami. He alleged that Hamid’s brother-in-law, Jihad Khan, is currently Jamaat’s candidate for Kishoreganj-3. "He relies on Golam Azam’s son and Jamaat leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman to maneuver politically, even to travel abroad," Rahman said. He strongly criticized the former president, adding, “The Hamids of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman now live under the grace of Jamaat. I refuse to exist for even a second under the mercy of anti-Liberation forces.”

On Sunday, Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh paid a courtesy visit to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan. BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Organising Secretary Shama Obaid also attended the meeting.

Ten years after the death of JCD student leader Nuruzzaman Jony in an alleged police “gunfight,” his father Yakub Ali has filed charges in a tribunal against 62 people, including former Awami League MP Saber Hossain Chowdhury and ex-DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia. According to the complaint, on January 19, 2015, Jony and a classmate were returning from Dhaka Central Jail after visiting his younger brother when they were unlawfully detained by men claiming to be Detective Branch officers. Witnesses reported hearing cries near Jorapukur playground early the next morning. At dawn, police were seen nearby, and Jony’s body was discovered.

BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that an Awami League figure was responsible for “heinous misconduct” in Muradnagar but the ruling party was falsely blaming the BNP.

“Sheikh Hasina may have fled, but her accomplices remain, continuing their misdeeds,” he said, adding that the lack of strong action by law enforcement was emboldening such activities.

He demanded swift prosecution of those involved. Meanwhile, the local chairman described the incident as “a mere extramarital affair,” claiming that student activists from the ruling party laid a trap, caught the couple red-handed, and filmed them.

NCP Convenor Nahid Islam announced plans to hold a public reading of the July Declaration and Manifesto on August 3 at the Central Shaheed Minar, marking Anti-Fascism Day.

He said the declaration was meant to be accepted by consensus and implemented within 30 working days, which have now passed without any government action. “To honor the historic context of July, constitutional recognition, and the martyrs’ legacy, this declaration is essential,” he added.

He called on citizens to join the event and voice their collective aspirations.

From July 1 to July 30, the National Citizen Party (NCP) will organize a countrywide program titled July March for Nation-Building. NCP Convenor Nahid Islam announced, “Starting July 1, we will commemorate the anniversary of the July Uprising. A year has passed—there have been achievements, but also disappointments. Remembering the historic 36 days of July-August is our moral duty.”

The march will begin with a visit to the grave of martyr Abu Sayeed. The campaign will travel across the nation and conclude back in Dhaka. Additionally, NCP will observe “Anti-Discrimination Martyrs’ Day” on July 16.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has responded cautiously to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s call for political dialogue, stating that discussions can only occur if the government genuinely fosters a conducive environment. He stated, "Ignoring such criminals will turn society into a lawless jungle." The main accused, Fozor Ali, has already been arrested, along with three others who shared footage of the victim online.

Dhaka, Bangladesh – BNP leader Aminul Haque reaffirmed the party’s commitment to aligning its political strategy with the will of the people. “Our oath is that our path is guided by the people,” he said.

He accused the ruling Awami League of imposing authoritarian control over the population for the past 17 years. He also stated that any party member involved in wrongdoing will not be shielded, and only those dedicated to the movement will be prioritized during membership renewals.

Haque cautioned against ongoing “domestic and international conspiracies” aimed at delaying the national elections scheduled for February and called for unity in facing these challenges.

He urged the Election Commission to announce a clear roadmap promptly. “Elections have been turned into tools for political profiteering,” he remarked. To ensure fairness, he proposed making parliamentary positions less financially lucrative.

Haque criticized the government’s controversial stance on various issues, including its intention to lease strategic assets like seaports to foreign entities, arguing that a truly accountable government would never make such a move.

Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorik Oikya, has labeled Sheikh Hasina a “vile dictator” and declared that the Awami League can never come back with a positive public image.

Manna said, “There is no possibility of forgiveness for the brutal oppression, torture, and massacres the Awami League has committed over the last 15 years. Anyone supporting them should be arrested and punished.”

He also expressed doubts about the Awami League’s eligibility to participate in the upcoming national elections, saying that if Sheikh Hasina and her followers face legal consequences, they will be disqualified from running.

Regarding the recent uprising, Manna noted that young leaders have taken charge, earning public sympathy. However, he acknowledged their inability to fully connect with the masses so far and stressed the need for greater unity and maturity in their words and actions.
