During a courtesy meeting with EU Ambassador Charles Whiteley, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman requested the installation of CCTV cameras at every polling station to ensure free and fair elections.
Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, who spoke after the meeting, said the initiative would require substantial funding, for which Jamaat sought EU assistance.
Jamaat also assured the EU of its commitment to the election timeline set by the Chief Adviser and invited European observers to monitor the polls.
In a bid to boost trade relations, Jamaat proposed setting up a dedicated industrial zone for European garment investors and also pledged to support progressive women’s policies.

Lamya, daughter of martyred Jasim Hawlader, tragically took her own life after being assaulted. Sargis Alam, Chief Organizer (North) of the NCP, attended her funeral and said, “I am speechless. The pain of losing a young woman, a sister, like this is beyond words. We pray no sister ever faces such a fate again.” Ruhul Kabir Rizvi urged the administration to become stricter and more responsible to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Ganadhikar Parishad leader Abu Hanif has demanded that advisers Asif Mahmud and Nurjahan step down following corruption allegations against their personal staff members.
He specifically called for the arrest of Tanvir, an NCP leader and accused aide, citing the potential misuse of government facilities for political gains.
Hanif warned that if advisers harbor political ambitions, they cannot be allowed to exploit their advisory positions, stressing that they now represent political groups rather than students.

Barrister Kaiser Kamal, Secretary General of the Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum, has demanded strict legal action against former Chief Justice A.B.M. Khairul Haque, whom he blamed for destroying democracy and human rights in Bangladesh.
Kamal announced that protest rallies will be held across the country’s courts on Tuesday, calling for Haque’s immediate arrest and trial.
Advocate Zainul Abedin added that partisan judges still remain in various levels of the judiciary and called for their swift removal.

National Congress Party (NCP) leader Samanta Sharmin stated that the upcoming elections will see new political alignments and possibly several surprises.
Sharmin noted that many traditional political groups may not participate this time, leading to the emergence of fresh dynamics that could significantly impact the election results.
“We might even surprise ourselves,” she added optimistically, expressing hope for a strong showing by the NCP. She mentioned that candidate selection is still under discussion and that seat-sharing may vary depending on the Election Commission’s final decision.

Asaduzzaman Fuad, a leader of AB Party, declared that the future of the Awami League’s politics will be decided by the 14 martyr families, not by any “civil society advisers,” “in-laws,” or directives from Delhi.
Speaking at an event, Fuad said that supporters of the mass uprising will participate in the open hearings of the Public Inquiry Commission, and decisions about Awami League’s fate, questions of genocide, and the future of India-aligned parties will be made based on public opinion.
He expressed frustration over the lack of progress in seeking justice and criticized some so-called advisers for paying lip service to the spirit of 1971 while neglecting the martyrs of later tragedies.

Tarique Rahman paid tribute on the death anniversary of national leader Sher-e-Bangla A.K. A court has acquitted BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and four others in a case filed under the Special Powers Act related to the Safe Roads Movement. The others acquitted include Barrister Milhanur Rahman Naomi, Md. Rafiqul Islam Nayan, Habibur Rahman Habib, and Rabiul Islam Robi. The case stemmed from a 2018 incident when students protested after two were killed by a speeding bus. Allegations of conspiracy against the state emerged after an alleged phone call involving Amir Khasru was leaked.

BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi is traveling to Patuakhali to attend the funeral of Lamia, daughter of July Movement martyr Jashim Uddin. Rizvi has already reached Barisal and will join the funeral once Lamia’s body arrives home. Central and local party leaders and activists are preparing to participate. Lamia’s body has undergone autopsy and was taken to Anjuman Mofidul Islam for bathing before being sent to her village.

NCP leader Sarjis Alam visited Lamia at the hospital and expressed deep sorrow over her death. He said, “The entire nation is grieving. Such a heinous act against the daughter of a martyr who sacrificed for a new Bangladesh is unacceptable. We lost Ashia in a similar manner recently. Those involved must face public execution.” Sarjis recounted how Lamia’s mother repeatedly asked if they could bring her daughter back, a question he found impossible to answer. He asserted that no bail should be granted to those accused of such horrific crimes, criticizing those who defend them in court as having lost their conscience.

Legal notices issued against Dr. Tasnim Jara and Dr. Jahangir Kabir for allegedly spreading obscenity have been withdrawn. Earlier, a Supreme Court lawyer, Barrister Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallab, had served a notice demanding a ban on all online platforms displaying “obscene and pornographic” content. However, netizens widely viewed the move as politically motivated, and Tasnim Jara’s content has garnered significant public support.

Former Chhatra Shibir president Manjurul Islam said, “Under Sheikh Hasina’s orders, leaders and activists of Awami League and the banned Chhatra League committed unprecedented massacres during the mass uprising.” He asserted that Sheikh Hasina and her accomplices must be brought back and tried to fulfill the aspirations of the July martyrs. He added, “We witnessed how killings were carried out at Pilkhana and Shapla Chattar. In previous years, educational institutions had no proper environment for learning, turned instead into hubs of terror and drugs by Chhatra League and their allies. Through immense sacrifices during the July Revolution, that situation was changed. Now, we must ensure the presence of all political and Islamic student organizations on campuses to maintain a healthy educational environment.”

ShahiduI Fahim, a leader of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, stated that Lamia’s mother, Ruma Begum, wife of martyred Jashim Uddin, has fallen ill and been hospitalized. He said, “Lamia was from my area; I spoke with her many times. She was mentally strong. After the incident of rape, she personally filed a complaint at the police station. What happened so suddenly that led her to take her own life? This must be investigated.” Fahim emphasized that the state cannot shirk responsibility in such cases. He also pointed out that although justice for rape cases is supposed to be delivered within 90 days, it is rarely seen. “We must rise again to demand justice for all victims like Lamia and Ashia.” Notably, Lamia, daughter of a July Movement martyr, was gang-raped on her way back from visiting her father’s grave on March 18, and took her own life on Saturday night.

BNP leader Hasan Uddin Sarkar accused the Awami League government of turning educational institutions into hubs of corruption over the past 16 years. Speaking at a rally, he said teaching is a noble profession and that corruption among educators tarnishes the dignity of the profession. Sarkar praised private schools for their role in employment and education and urged teachers to uphold the integrity of their profession.
