Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has expressed deep concern over the ongoing floods caused by continuous heavy rainfall across several regions of Bangladesh, including Feni, Noakhali, Chattogram, and Sylhet. In a statement, he highlighted that thousands are stranded without access to food and clean water, and waterborne diseases are a looming threat.

He called on the government to intensify relief and rescue operations and urged Jamaat activists as well as compassionate and capable individuals in society to stand by those affected.

Jamaat Ameer Urges Support for Flood Victims in Several Districts

A high-level eight-member delegation from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, led by party Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, is currently on a visit to China from July 11 to 15, at the invitation of the Chinese government and the Communist Party of China (CPC). The delegation was seen off at the airport by Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen and senior Jamaat leaders on Thursday night.

Dr. Rahman stated that the visit aims to strengthen Bangladesh-China bilateral ties and to learn from China’s development experience.

Jamaat Delegation Visits China at CPC’s Invitation

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Security Advisor to the Government of Bangladesh, has urged the United States to deepen its cooperation in Bangladesh’s security sector. In a meeting with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Megan Boldin, he acknowledged the crucial role of American training and equipment in enhancing counter-terrorism and national security capabilities.

He expressed appreciation for U.S. assistance in modernizing the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit and requested continued support. The two sides discussed law enforcement collaboration, counter-terrorism, online sexual harassment, and intelligence sharing. The U.S. advised Bangladesh to remain vigilant against terrorism. Chowdhury asserted that while there is currently no active militancy, law enforcement is taking strict action against unlawful activities by banned political groups. Both parties emphasized the importance of coordination and information exchange.

Bangladesh Seeks Enhanced U.S. Support in Security Sector

Maulana Mamunul Haque, Amir of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, has strongly criticized the country’s current electoral system, calling it fundamentally flawed. Speaking at a mass rally organized by the party’s Jessore district unit, he warned that holding elections without reforms could pave the way for a resurgence of fascism.

Haque argued that past so-called “fair elections” were merely façades and that without systemic reform, democracy in Bangladesh remains under threat. Leaders from the Khulna division were also present at the event.

The incident occurred Thursday afternoon at Talukdar Bazaar. Eleven of the injured were admitted to the Amtali Upazila Health Complex. Repeated scuffles broke out between factions led by Salam Mallik and Hasan Boyati. Local leaders have pledged disciplinary action against those violating party discipline. Police confirmed no formal complaints have been filed yet.

Violent Clash Erupts After BNP Meeting in Barguna, 15 Injured

The Advisory Council of Bangladesh has granted final approval to a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a mission office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNOHCHR) in the country.

Additionally, the Council has approved Bangladesh's accession to the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention Against Torture. These measures aim to strengthen the country's efforts in promoting and safeguarding human rights and implementing preventive mechanisms against torture and inhumane treatment.

Bangladesh Approves Draft MoU for Establishing UN Human Rights Mission

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of Bangladesh, has sent 300 kilograms of Rangpur’s famed Haribhanga mangoes as a gift to Dr. Manik Saha, the Chief Minister of India’s Tripura state.

The mangoes were transported via a Bangladeshi pickup truck to the Agartala port. Upon arrival, they were officially handed over to Chanchal Dey, an official at the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Tripura, by Debashish Nandi, Superintendent of Agartala Port.

Political Consensus Emerges on Chief Justice Appointment Reform

China and Canada Pledge Continued Support for Rohingya Crisis

A false notice claiming the postponement of the 48th BCS (Special) Exam 2025 is circulating on social media. The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) has confirmed that no such notice has been issued and the circulated message is completely fabricated. PSC urges candidates and the public to rely only on official announcements on its website. Legal action will be taken against those spreading false information to prevent public confusion and misinformation.

The SSC and equivalent exam results have been published, and students dissatisfied with their scores can apply for re-evaluation starting July 11 until July 17. Applications must be submitted via Teletalk SIM with a fee of 150 BDT per subject. To apply, students need to send a specific SMS format to 16222. This year’s overall pass rate is 68.45%, with 139,032 students achieving GPA-5, both figures slightly lower than last year.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has demolished an illegally constructed second floor at Mohammadpur Krishi Market, originally rebuilt as a single-story market for fire-affected traders. The unauthorized structure was built by a market committee syndicate, creating obstacles for 411 legitimate shop owners awaiting access. DNCC conducted the eviction drive, also clearing footpaths. An injured Kalanagini snake, rescued after being beaten by locals in Barguna’s Amtali area, is being taken to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Dr. Iqbal Kabir, former project director, and Saifur Rahman, managing director of SRS Design and Fashion Ltd, over alleged corruption in the DNCC Mohakhali Covid-19 Hospital project.
