Nasir Uddin Nasir, Central General Secretary of the student wing of the BNP, has announced that the funeral prayer (Janazah) for Shahriar Alam Samyo, a student of the 2018–19 session at the Institute of Education and Research, will be held after Zuhr prayers at Dhaka University Central Mosque. Samyo also served as the Literary and Publication Secretary of the SIR AF Rahman Hall unit. Police from Shahbagh Station have already arrested three individuals in connection with the murder.

The White Panel, a group of Dhaka University teachers, has issued a strong statement condemning the murder of student leader Shahriar Alam Samyo. "He was a fearless fighter for people’s rights—killed in his own campus. What kind of country are we creating?" the statement read. They demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators. The group alleged that this murder, especially amid growing calls for a national election, could be part of a larger conspiracy to destabilize the country. They urged authorities to identify and bring the killers to justice within 24 hours.

Deputy Spokesperson of the US State Department, Tommy Pigott, said, “We are aware that the ruling government has banned all political activities of the Awami League until legal proceedings against the party and its leaders conclude.” He emphasized that the US does not support any specific political party in Bangladesh. “We advocate for an independent, democratic, fair, and transparent legal process for everyone,” he said. Pigott also urged all governments, including Bangladesh’s, to uphold freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and the right of association. He reiterated the US’s commitment to deepening its partnership with the people of Bangladesh and working with the interim government.

Supporters of Ishraq Hossain staged a protest and surrounded the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) building, demanding he be sworn in as mayor within 24 hours. What began as a human chain at the main gate grew into a mass rally, with demonstrators occupying the steps of City Hall by 10 AM. On April 27, the Election Commission officially declared Ishraq Hossain as the mayor of Dhaka South through a gazette notification.

NCP leader Sargis Alam has criticized those holding the Dhaka University Vice Chancellor and Proctor responsible for Samyo’s murder, calling it a diversionary tactic. “The murder occurred near the open stage of Suhrawardy Udyan, which is not under the university’s jurisdiction,” he said. He alleged that drug abuse, extortion, and harassment in the park are carried out by syndicates under political protection, not the university administration. Sargis also blamed unregulated vendors and those who collect extortion money from them for creating an unsafe environment and demanded stricter control over outsider entry and vehicle access on campus.

Police have detained three individuals in connection with the murder of Shahriar Samyo (25), a Dhaka University student from the 2018–19 session and a leader of the student wing of the BNP, who was fatally stabbed with a sharp weapon near Suhrawardy Udyan. The names of those arrested have not yet been disclosed. On Wednesday morning, Samyo’s elder brother, Shariful Islam, filed a case at Shahbagh Police Station, naming 10 to 12 unidentified individuals. Police say an investigation is currently underway.

Advisor Asif Mahmud has stressed the need for a coordinated inter-ministerial approach to combat dengue and increase public awareness. “Efforts must be intensified across online platforms, mainstream media, and rural areas,” he said. The Government of Bangladesh has reached a consensus with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), agreeing to partially implement two key conditions. This includes further flexibilization of the exchange rate, which will lead to a weaker taka and a stronger dollar. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will also undergo significant reforms. With this agreement, Bangladesh is set to receive two loan tranches worth $1.3 billion by next month.

Following the fatal stabbing of Chhatra Dal leader Shahriar Alam Samya, the student group held a protest march early Wednesday, led by central leaders Rakibul Islam Rakib and Nasir Uddin Nasir. The rally started from Dhaka Medical College and ended in front of the Vice-Chancellor's residence. Chhatra Dal alleged the involvement of 20–30 outsiders in the attack and criticized university authorities for failing to protect students. Nasir stated, “The proctor cannot evade responsibility for this incident.” Protesters have called for the resignation of both the Vice-Chancellor and the Proctor, with further demonstrations planned.

At a consultation meeting on Tuesday involving 17 political parties, BIDA Chairman Chowdhury Ashiq bin Harun acknowledged that Bangladesh is facing various investment challenges. "We are committed to creating a favorable investment climate, but there are numerous crises to overcome," he said. “This discussion aims to outline what we are currently doing and what we plan to achieve in the next 6–8 months.” Stressing that investment and employment are national interests beyond political boundaries, he added, “No decisions will be made that go against the national interest. The Chattogram Port is not a regional facility; it belongs to the entire nation.”

Police have arrested Azim Sarkar, also known as Azim Sikder (33), a cashier of former Gazipur mayor Jahangir Alam and an accused in two cases related to attacks during recent mass uprisings. Azim is also a member of the Mirzapur unit of the Awami Swechchhasebak League’s convening committee and the younger brother of AL vice president Mosharraf Hossain. He reportedly managed financial operations for Jahangir and collected funds from various sources.

Tensions flared at a lower court during the remand hearing of Momtaz Begum, where journalists faced threats and aggression from pro-BNP lawyers. Lawyers Mahbub Alam and Akhtar Hossain ordered reporters out of the courtroom, leading to heated exchanges. Scuffles broke out when journalists tried to record statements on camera. The Public Prosecutor alleged during the hearing that Momtaz used to sing for Prime Minister Hasina during times of distress during the mass uprising.

BNP leader Major (Retd.) Hafizuddin Ahmed raised concerns about the government’s decision to allow a “humanitarian corridor,” warning it could drag the country into war. He noted that political parties and the public were kept in the dark. “We fought for 16 years to remove a mafia regime and bring back democracy—why are we still in the dark?” he asked. He reiterated demands for fresh elections and criticized the current lack of decisive leadership. Senior BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi recalled how the Farakka Dam was operationalized during Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s time, suggesting that the damage started back then.

Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, the Charmonai Pir and leader of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, stated that there's nothing new to see from the ruling Awami League, BNP, or Jatiya Party. “We’ve experienced their rule. Now the only ideology that offers peace in this world and salvation in the hereafter is Islam,” he said. Rezaul Karim also warned against political maneuvering to protect criminals and money launderers, stating that the people of Bangladesh will not tolerate such tactics. His party recently held a rally demanding elections through proportional representation.

Shahriar Alam Samya, a student of the Institute of Education and Research at Dhaka University, was stabbed to death near the Suhrawardy Udyan open stage around midnight on Tuesday. Provost Mahfuzul Haque Supon confirmed that Samya succumbed to knife injuries. Samya, son of Fakhrul Alam from Sirajganj, was also the literary and publication secretary of the DU unit of Chhatra Dal. The incident occurred when his motorcycle collided with another near the park, leading to an altercation. During the scuffle, he was fatally stabbed by one of the assailants who then fled the scene.
