Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has temporarily suspended all quota reservations for undergraduate admissions in the 2024-25 academic year. In Nangalkot, Comilla, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam allegedly shot and crippled mosque muezzin Maulana Belal Hossain Majumdar and Jamaat activist Belayet Hossain. According to a lawsuit filed against OC Nazrul and 31 others, ruling party leaders pressured Belal over political disagreements. On February 8, 2015, OC Nazrul allegedly abducted them from their homes and shot them in the legs on the Dhaka-Noakhali Highway.
