Jubo League leader Akram Hossain (52), accused in the murder case of Jubo Dal leader and protest martyr Abu Raihan Rahim (29), has been arrested. The incident occurred on August 4 last year during an attack on Dupchanchia police station amid anti-government protests. Rahim, also a member of the Construction Workers’ Union, was shot while attempting to seize a firearm from the police. He succumbed to his injuries on August 9 at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Dhaka.

Association President Firoz Haider Khan warned that banks may face difficulties recovering loans worth $800 million if operations are halted.

Union Chhatra Dal president Shaon Kabi Riza (25) has been arrested and sent to court after a video of him arguing with the police went viral. In the video, he told officers, "If you want to take me to the police station, ask the OC to come himself." Following the video's circulation, the Chhatra Dal central committee expelled him. SI Khokon stated that Riza misbehaved with him and attempted to snatch his mobile phone. The OC confirmed that Riza was arrested for assaulting a driver.
Student Leader Expelled After Defying Police Order
Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Mazumdar confirmed that Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and UN Secretary-General António Guterres will join 100,000 Rohingya refugees for an Iftar meal in Cox’s Bazar this Friday.
The meal will include traditional items such as chickpeas, puffed rice, onion fritters, jilapi, beguni, morichya, and sharbat. The UN Secretary-General is visiting Bangladesh on a four-day tour, following an official invitation handed over by envoy Khalilur Rahman in New York on February 7.
Chief Adviser and UN Secretary-General to Break Fast with 100,000 Rohingya Refugees
A Dhaka court has sentenced three individuals to life imprisonment for the gang rape of a teenage girl in Kamrangirchar. Additionally, two minors have been given the maximum punishment of 10 years in prison.
The convicts—Mohan, Sabbir, and Russell—were also fined BDT 100,000 each. Failure to pay will result in an additional year of imprisonment. The two minors were fined the same amount, with a similar penalty for non-payment.
The crime occurred on June 17, 2020, when the 13-year-old victim was assaulted by the perpetrators.
Three Sentenced to Life for Gang Rape of Teenage Girl
Former Dhaka Mayor Atiqul Islam, Prime Minister’s Adviser Salman F Rahman, and Mohibul Haque have been arrested in separate cases. Salman F Rahman and Atiqul Islam were shown as arrested in a murder case under Vatara Police Station, while Mohibul Haque was arrested in an attempted murder case under Tejgaon Police Station.
Salman F Rahman was apprehended on August 13 while attempting to flee by boat from the Sadarghat area. Atiqul Islam was arrested on October 16 in Mohakhali, Dhaka. Mohibul Haque was detained on November 20 in Mohakhali DOHS.

Actress Shomi Kaiser has been granted interim bail in an attempted murder case linked to recent political unrest. She remains in Kashimpur Women’s Prison, but with no additional cases against her, there are no legal barriers to her release. The case alleges that on July 18, members of the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League launched an armed attack in Azampur, injuring multiple individuals, including businessman Ishtiaq Mahmud. The plaintiff claims that Shomi Kaiser was directly involved in the incident.

The accused include Aung Aung Marma (25), Sumaiya Shahina (25), Adritha Roy (23), Arman (30), Meghmallar Basu (28), Al Amin Rahman (25), Richard (26), Hasan Shikdar (25), Seema Akter (25), Soukat Arif (26), Main Ahmed (24), and Fahim Ahmed Chowdhury (25).
