The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) prevented an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push a woman into Bangladesh through the Rokonpur border in Gomastapur upazila of Chapainawabganj. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Monday near border pillar 225/3-R, opposite India’s RK Wada camp under the 88th BSF Battalion. BSF members reportedly tried to send the woman across the border by boat, but the attempt failed due to the alertness of BGB personnel and local residents.

According to BGB sources, patrol members quickly reached the spot after receiving information from locals and took a firm position, forcing the BSF to abandon the push-in attempt. The woman was later seen inside Indian territory near the zero line. Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Islam Masum, commanding officer of the 16 BGB Battalion, said the force remains vigilant to prevent any illegal entry or push-in attempts along the border.

He added that the situation is being closely monitored and surveillance in the border area has been further strengthened.

A two-year-old child abducted from Fatullah in Narayanganj last Friday was rescued by members of RAB-11. The rescue took place on Sunday evening during an operation in the Chashara area of Narayanganj city. Authorities arrested a couple, Sujon Mia, 31, and his wife Majeda, 29, in connection with the abduction. The child was later recovered from their custody in good health.

According to RAB-11, the arrested couple lived as tenants next door to the victim’s family in the Lamapara area of Fatullah. They often interacted with the child, which helped them gain the family’s trust. On Friday morning, they allegedly took the child under the pretext of affection and later demanded a ransom of one lakh taka from the family, threatening to kill the child if the money was not paid.

RAB launched an operation after the family sought help, using intelligence and technology to locate the suspects. The couple was handed over to Fatullah police for further legal action.

Students of Dhaka University belonging to the Sanatan religious community held a protest rally and demonstration on Monday evening at the Raju Sculpture, condemning an incident in Gaibandha where an image of Lord Ramchandra was allegedly beaten with shoes. The protesters demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved. The event was organized under the banner of ‘Conscious Students of Dhaka University’ and included participants from Jagannath Hall and several women’s dormitories.

Speakers at the rally said the act had deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community and accused extremist groups of trying to create division in society. They criticized the government for failing to ensure justice in previous cases of attacks on minorities and called for swift legal action against the perpetrators. One student leader warned of a larger movement if justice was not served by Friday.

After the rally, the protesters briefly blocked Shahbagh intersection, carrying placards and chanting slogans for religious harmony, action against extremism, and the resumption of construction of the country’s largest Ram statue in Gaibandha.

The Bangladesh Private Clinic, Hospital and Diagnostic Owners Association (BPHCDOA) stated that canceling the license of Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in Dhaka is not the best solution following the deaths of six children. In a statement signed by office secretary Arif Mahmud on June 15, the association expressed deep sorrow over the incident and urged for a proper investigation. It said that if negligence is proven, legal action should be taken against those responsible and compensation should be provided to the affected families.

The association emphasized that similar incidents occur in healthcare institutions worldwide and are usually addressed through investigation, corrective legal measures, and preventive actions. It suggested that Ad-Din Hospital could be allowed to resume operations under supervision and corrective conditions instead of permanent license cancellation. The group also noted concern that no representative from private hospital owners was included in the investigation commission.

BPHCDOA warned that permanently canceling the license of a long-serving institution could harm middle- and lower-income patients who cannot afford expensive hospitals. It reaffirmed its commitment to work constructively with the government to make Bangladesh’s healthcare sector safer and more accountable.

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has released the full 809-page verdict in the case of Abu Sayeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, who was declared the first martyr of the July Revolution. The tribunal found that police officers intentionally and unlawfully killed Abu Sayeed under a state-directed policy of violent suppression. Chief Prosecutor Aminul announced the verdict details at a press briefing, noting that appeals may be filed after review.

The judgment stated that forensic and evidence-based investigations by an internationally recognized human rights mission confirmed the killing was part of a broader, systematic campaign against civilians, qualifying as a crime against humanity under the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973. The tribunal determined that Sayeed died from multiple injuries, including gunshot wounds, and ruled the death a planned murder.

Two former police officers received death sentences, three others life imprisonment, and several university officials and student leaders received prison terms ranging from three to ten years. The tribunal also deemed one convict’s time in custody as sentence served.

In Bangladesh’s Parliament on Monday, State Minister for Local Government Mir Shah Alam faced criticism after two newly formed union councils in his constituency were named 'Simanta' and 'Diganta', matching the names of his two sons. Opposition lawmakers alleged that the unions were named after his family members, violating the Union Parishad Act 2009, which prohibits naming unions after individuals. The minister denied the allegation, claiming the similarity was coincidental.

The controversy arose in the newly created Mokamatla upazila of Bogura-2 constituency, where several unions were reorganized last month. According to the minister, 'Simanta' was named because the area borders another region, while 'Diganta' was chosen for its distant location near the Gaibandha district boundary. He emphasized that the names were selected by the district administration, not by him.

Government MPs expressed support for the minister during the session, while the opposition reiterated concerns about political influence in local naming decisions. The issue has drawn attention to administrative transparency in local government restructuring.
