Islami Bank has announced that customers who closed or broke their term and savings-based accounts during recent instability can now reactivate them with all previous benefits intact. According to an internal directive issued on Monday, customers have seven working days to reopen their closed Mudaraba Term Deposit (MTDR), Mudaraba Monthly Profit Deposit Scheme (MMPDS), Mudaraba Special Savings Scheme (MSS), and Mudaraba Savings Bond (MSB) accounts. The reactivated accounts will retain the original profit rates and other conditions.

The bank stated that many customers had withdrawn deposits out of fear during recent uncertainty surrounding the institution. To assist those clients, all zones, branches, and sub-branches have been instructed to take necessary steps, prepare lists of closed accounts, and contact affected customers by phone and address.

Officials believe the initiative will help restore depositor confidence and improve liquidity. The unrest followed the appointment of a new chairman, which led to heavy withdrawals. The reactivation offer aims to stabilize deposits and bring withdrawn funds back into the bank.

A case has been requested against Cumilla North District BNP joint convener Abul Hashem for allegedly seizing government land allocated to a landless person and constructing a multi-storey building on it. Daudkandi Upazila Executive Officer Nasrin Akter confirmed on Monday that an application was submitted to the Cumilla Deputy Commissioner to file the case. The move followed a report published on June 3 in the daily Amar Desh that sparked widespread discussion and prompted administrative action.

According to the report, the land was originally allotted to Masud Alam, a landless resident of Gauripur Pennai area, during the 1989–90 fiscal year for rehabilitation and agricultural use. However, Hashem, who is Alam’s cousin, allegedly took control of the land, later registering ownership under his own name. Local sources said Hashem had occupied the land for 36 years and recently began constructing a permanent multi-storey building there.

Officials stated that Hashem fraudulently included the land in his BS record and started illegal construction. The administration has now moved to initiate legal proceedings against him.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced in parliament that a strong Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will be established, with a search committee being formed to appoint the commission’s chairman and commissioners. He made the remarks on Monday during the discussion on the supplementary budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year, addressing the additional grant request for the ACC on behalf of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Seven fishermen from Shahparir Island in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, were reportedly abducted by Myanmar’s armed rebel group Arakan Army on Monday morning, June 15, 2026. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. near the estuary of the Naf River adjacent to Shahparir Island, where the group allegedly seized two fishing trawlers and took the fishermen across the border.

Local fishermen said the victims were fishing in the area when Arakan Army members arrived from the Rakhine side and detained them. They explained that the river’s border between Bangladesh and Myanmar is difficult to identify, causing fishermen to sometimes cross unintentionally. Such situations have previously led to similar abductions by the group.

Another fisherman described growing fear among locals, saying fishing in the Naf River and nearby sea has become increasingly dangerous due to frequent threats from the Arakan Army. Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer S. M. Anik Chowdhury confirmed awareness of the incident and said communication with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was underway regarding the matter.

Two days after the killing of Jubo Dal leader Masudul Haque Chowdhury in Raozan, Chattogram, no case has yet been filed and no arrests have been made. Police said they have identified several suspects from CCTV footage. The attack occurred around 1:15 p.m. on June 14 in front of Ashrafia Pharmacy at Choumuhani intersection in Pahartali Union, when armed assailants shot Masudul Haque multiple times, killing him on the spot.

Masudul Haque, a senior joint convener of Rangunia Upazila Jubo Dal and a close follower of local MP Humam Quader Chowdhury, was the son of late Khalek Chowdhury of Betagi Union. Witnesses and intelligence sources said six to seven attackers arrived in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and fired 8–10 rounds at close range. His brother, former union chairman Swapan Chowdhury, demanded justice, saying Masud had no enemies.

Police suspect the killing may be linked to disputes over sand extraction or local political rivalry ahead of the upcoming union council election. Following the incident, supporters staged protests and blocked the Chattogram-Kaptai road for several hours. The area remains tense under heightened police patrols.

Bangladesh Bank has introduced new measures to make it easier for Bangladeshi exporters to enter international e-commerce markets. A circular issued on Monday allows exporters to list and display their products on internationally recognized online marketplaces and digital platforms, enabling direct sales to consumers worldwide. The new policy simplifies business-to-consumer export operations and introduces several key regulatory changes.

Under the circular, exporters can now ship small-value goods worth up to 5,000 US dollars per transaction on a cost and freight basis. The requirement to submit an EXP form has been waived for shipments up to 1,000 US dollars, provided full payment is received in advance through banking or approved digital payment channels. Exporters may also issue shipping documents directly in the name of foreign buyers, and provisions have been made for product returns or refunds in case of quality issues.

The policy also permits remittance payments for subscriptions, registrations, memberships, and service fees required to operate on international online marketplaces. Business and export sector representatives believe the initiative will significantly expand cross-border e-commerce activities and allow exporters to reach global consumers directly.
