One man has died following a mob beating in Bauphal, Patuakhali, after being accused of robbery. He succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning while under medical care. Police have yet to confirm his identity. Another injured man remains hospitalized.
The incident occurred late Saturday night when locals accused two men of raiding homes in Kashipur market area, looting about Tk 10 lakh in cash and gold ornaments. Residents captured two suspects and handed them over to police, while others from the gang escaped with the stolen goods.

Nigerian Air Force (NAF) strikes on four militant targets in Borno state, near the Cameroon border, killed at least 35 suspected insurgents, officials confirmed. NAF spokesperson Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet said ground forces have since regained control of the area.

Bangladesh and Pakistan are holding foreign minister-level talks at Hotel Sonargaon in Dhaka on Sunday morning. Six agreements and memoranda of understanding are expected to be signed during the meeting, covering trade, investment, agriculture, and easing cross-border movement of people.
The talks follow the arrival of Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Dhaka on Saturday. He was received by Foreign Secretary Nazrul Islam at the airport before meeting with BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and NCP leaders later in the day.
Bangladesh, Pakistan Hold Foreign Minister-Level Talks in Dhaka
The Election Commission (EC) has directed field officials to submit updated inventories of ballot boxes by August 25. According to an EC circular, officials must send details of usable ballot boxes to the Election Management-1 wing within the deadline.
The commission also instructed local offices to request necessary allocations for relocating materials to free up warehouse space ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections. Procurement for the 13th general election is already underway, with the EC aiming to complete all purchases by September.

He stressed that blocked roads prevent pregnant women and critical patients from reaching hospitals on time and disrupt students heading to exams. The commissioner assured maximum police deployment during the election period and appealed for cooperation from political leaders.
DMP Chief Urges Political Parties to Avoid Busy Roads for Rallies
The Border Security Force (BSF) detained a senior Bangladeshi police officer on Saturday evening near the Hakimpur border outpost in North 24 Parganas. The officer was reportedly attempting to enter Indian territory illegally. Authorities have withheld his identity for investigative reasons and handed him over to West Bengal police for questioning.
Indian officials noted this is the first time a serving Bangladeshi police officer has been caught attempting such an entry. Investigators are probing whether he acted alone or on behalf of a network. Border surveillance has since been intensified.

Engineers’ Rights Movement Declares Three-Day Strike Across Campuses
The Dhaka University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has directed all its members outside the official panel to withdraw candidacy from the upcoming DUCSU and hall union elections.
In a statement, JCD said August 25 at 1 PM is the final deadline for withdrawal. It warned that disciplinary action will be taken against anyone defying the directive.

Keraniganj: The Naval Police have recovered the bound bodies of a man and a woman floating in the Buriganga River.
The victims, estimated to be around 30 years old, were discovered Saturday evening near Madaripur Ghat. The man was dressed in a red check shirt and trousers, while the woman wore a red salwar and gray t-shirt.
Authorities believe the deaths occurred two to three days ago. The bodies have been sent to Mitford Hospital morgue for autopsy, while forensic teams from CID and PBI are working to identify the victims.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Helal Uddin has warned that the government is preparing for a one-sided election designed to satisfy a single political party, ignoring the people’s demand for proportional representation.

Cox’s Bazar: Twelve Bangladeshi fishermen have reportedly been abducted by the Arakan Army from the Naf River estuary in Teknaf.
The incident occurred Saturday afternoon while the fishermen were returning home from St. Martin’s Island after fishing in the Bay of Bengal. They were seized along with two boats in the Naikkhyongdia waters. All abductees are residents of Shah Porir Dwip in Teknaf.
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Ehsan Uddin confirmed the incident, stating that higher authorities, including the district administration, have been informed. “We hope they will be released soon,” he said.
