An independent UN commission has accused Israel of committing the crime against humanity of “extermination” through its attacks on civilians sheltering in schools and religious sites in Gaza. The report says over 90% of Gaza’s educational facilities and more than half its cultural and religious sites have been destroyed. The attacks, deemed war crimes, have devastated Palestinian life and education. The findings will be presented to the UN Human Rights Council on June 17, despite Israel’s withdrawal from the council.

Madleen Kulab, Gaza’s first fisherwoman and the inspiration for the aid ship Madleen, followed the vessel’s journey hoping it would break Israel’s blockade. Despite her fears, Israeli forces intercepted the ship in international waters, detaining all 12 onboard, including Greta Thunberg. For Kulab, the mission represented Gaza’s ongoing suffering. While heartbroken by the outcome, she believes the activists delivered a powerful global message of humanity. Still, she laments Gaza’s isolation, starvation, and the unending weight of war.

The ship carrying Greta Thunberg and fellow activists is named Madlen, in honor of Madlen Kollab—a 31-year-old Palestinian woman, mother of four, and Gaza’s first female fisherwoman, who is expecting her fifth child.
Despite the Israeli blockade, boat damage, and lack of gear, Madlen continues her daily battle at sea—not just for livelihood, but for dignity and rights. Her resilience and courage inspired the naming of the ship.

Madlen Ship Named After Gaza’s First Female Fisherwoman

Gunfire broke out Monday as Palestinians made their way to an aid distribution center run by the Israel- and US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).
Witnesses reported that, for the first time, Palestinian gunmen were also involved in the shooting, leaving civilians stunned and fearful about their identities being mistaken. Israeli forces also opened fire as in previous incidents.
According to the Hamas-run Health Ministry, six people were killed and 99 injured in the designated aid collection zone.

Gunfire Erupts Again as Palestinians Head to GHF Aid Center in Gaza

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have claimed that the body of Hamas’ military chief, Mohammad Sinwar, was discovered in a tunnel beneath the European Hospital in Khan Yunis, Gaza.

The IDF released video footage of the tunnel and confirmed Sinwar’s identity through DNA testing. However, Hamas has yet to officially acknowledge his death. The IDF earlier claimed Sinwar was killed in an airstrike on May 13, which, according to Hamas-controlled Civil Defense, killed 28 people.

Israel Claims Body of Hamas Military Leader Found Beneath Gaza Hospital

At least 60 Palestinians have been killed and 388 others wounded in Israeli airstrikes across Gaza over the past 24 hours, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Among the dead were 14 civilians near a humanitarian aid center in Rafah supported by the U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Since the war began in 2023, the death toll in Gaza has reached 54,927, with over 126,000 injured. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen amid relentless Israeli attacks.

Israeli Strikes Kill 60 in Gaza in 24 Hours; Death Toll Approaches 55,000

At least 108 Palestinians were killed and 393 injured in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza within 24 hours, including during the Muslim festival of Eid. The Gaza Health Ministry reports that since October 2023, the death toll has reached 54,880, with over 126,000 injured. Following the collapse of a ceasefire in March 2025, 4,603 Palestinians have died. Despite an ICC arrest warrant against Netanyahu, Israeli operations continue. A U.S.-proposed two-month ceasefire awaits Hamas approval, though Netanyahu has expressed agreement.

The Madleen ship, carrying 12 activists including climate campaigner Greta Thunberg, set out from Sicily on June 1 to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza amid a strict Israeli blockade lasting over 90 days. The 2,000km journey is tracked live, with the latest position near Crete on June 4. Israel’s military has warned it will block the ship, risking detention and seizure if the activists don’t comply. Gaza faces severe food shortages and heavy bombardment casualties.

Israeli attacks on Gaza continued into the second day of Eid, killing 56 Palestinians, including 16 in a single strike in Gaza City’s Sabra area. Gaza Civil Defense termed it a “complete massacre,” with around 50 others injured. On Eid day itself, 42 people were killed. Eight more were shot dead near a humanitarian aid center in Rafah. Since October 7, 2023, over 54,700 Palestinians have been killed. In the past 48 hours, 95 were killed and 304 injured. One Thai hostage’s body was recovered by Israel.

On Eid al-Adha, a major Muslim festival, Israeli forces launched multiple deadly attacks in Gaza, killing at least 42 Palestinians. The violence included an assault in northern Gaza’s Jabalya area where 11 people died. Shelling near relief centers in Rafah also caused casualties. Gaza’s emergency services and hospitals reported the rising death toll. Amid this, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation halted all aid activities. Since the conflict began, over 110 Palestinians have been killed while attempting to receive aid.

An Israeli drone missile attack on Thursday killed at least 16 people in Gaza, including four journalists. The strike took place near Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, where journalists had set up a temporary shelter from the heat. Three journalists died instantly, and another died later in the hospital. Several others were injured, including a senior journalist undergoing emergency surgery. The Israeli military has not yet commented on the incident. The attack has drawn widespread condemnation from international media.

The United States has vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, despite support from 14 other members. As Israeli airstrikes continue, nearly 100 Palestinians were killed in the last 24 hours, and famine worsens amid aid blockades. China condemned the US for shielding Israel, while the UN urged the opening of all crossings for aid delivery. UNICEF and other agencies report horrifying scenes of starvation, especially among children.

A BBC report on Palestinian deaths near a U.S.-backed Israeli aid center in Gaza drew criticism from the White House, which accused the broadcaster of echoing Hamas claims. The BBC strongly defended its reporting, stating no article was removed and that it cited all sources transparently. The controversy reflects growing tensions over media narratives in Gaza, where recent Israeli strikes have killed nearly 100 people. Meanwhile, the U.S. vetoed a UN ceasefire proposal, further jeopardizing humanitarian aid efforts in the war-torn region.

Israel has suspended food distribution in Gaza for a full day, citing “renovation and efficiency” work at US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation sites. Palestinians, already facing starvation, have been warned to avoid aid roads. The UN Security Council will vote on a ceasefire and humanitarian access resolution, likely to face a US veto. Israel’s assault has killed over 54,500 Palestinians and wounded nearly 125,000. Hamas’s October 7 attack previously left 1,139 Israelis dead and more than 200 abducted.

At least 102 starving Palestinians have been shot dead by Israeli forces at U.S.-backed humanitarian aid distribution centers in Gaza over the past eight days, according to local media.

An additional 490 people have been injured. The Gaza Media Office has condemned the attacks as a “deliberate genocide,” while the UN has described the situation as a “calculated death trap.” UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called for an independent investigation into the Sunday attack at the Rafah aid center.
