US Vice President JD Vance stated that the decision on a ceasefire agreement now depends entirely on Iran, saying the 'ball is in their court.' He explained that the United States has clarified its position and conditions in the negotiations and has already presented a proposal. The main question, he said, is whether Tehran will accept it. Vance emphasized that Washington will not compromise on two issues: strict control over Iran’s enriched uranium and an effective verification system to prevent nuclear weapons development. He added that if Iran abandons its nuclear weapons program, the United States is ready to treat it as a normal country. The US also expects the Strait of Hormuz to be fully reopened as part of the ceasefire, as its closure has significantly disrupted global energy supplies. A recent meeting in Pakistan ended without a final resolution, though both sides indicated willingness to continue discussions, according to the report sourced from Al Jazeera.

A Chinese-owned oil tanker named 'Rich Starry' crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, defying a newly imposed US naval blockade. The vessel, operated by a company already under US sanctions, carried about 250,000 barrels of methanol from the UAE’s Hamriyah port. According to shipping data, the tanker had previously been blacklisted in 2023 for allegedly helping Iran evade fuel sanctions and was formerly known as 'Full Star'. The blockade, announced by President Donald Trump and effective since Monday, aims to halt Iran’s oil exports. The tanker’s passage marked its second attempt within 24 hours, after initially turning back near Iran’s Qeshm Island. Analysts described the move as a test of the US blockade’s enforcement capacity. Another tanker, 'LPC', was also reported entering the Gulf of Oman after docking at an Iranian port. The incident has heightened concern among Asian nations reliant on Middle Eastern oil. In response to the rising tension, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for diplomatic dialogue between Tehran and Washington to resolve the situation.

US Vice President JD Vance has accused Iran of engaging in 'economic terrorism' by blocking navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. In an interview with Fox News host Bret Baier, Vance said President Donald Trump had shown that both sides could play this game, referring to the strategic waterway. He warned that if Iran pursued economic terrorism, the United States would respond by preventing any Iranian ships from leaving port. Vance also revealed that recent talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, Pakistan, had made significant progress. He stated that the next move was up to Iran, urging Tehran to show flexibility and accept what he described as key US demands. These include US oversight of Iran’s enriched uranium and the establishment of a verification system to ensure Iran cannot produce nuclear weapons. The report cited BBC Bangla as its source and noted that China criticized US sanctions as irresponsible, while Pakistan expressed readiness to host further discussions if needed.

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has indicated that global oil prices could reach their highest levels in the coming weeks due to ongoing disruptions in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking at the ‘Semaphore World Economy’ conference in Washington, D.C., Wright said fuel prices will remain high until meaningful maritime traffic resumes through the key waterway, adding that prices could rise even further before stabilizing. Wright explained that oil prices may begin to decline once the United States-Iran conflict ends and energy supplies return to normal. However, he cautioned that this process will take time and may not occur until around September. His remarks highlight the sensitivity of global energy markets to geopolitical tensions and supply chain interruptions in critical maritime routes. The statement underscores the potential for short-term volatility in global fuel markets as disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to constrain supply routes vital to international trade.

In Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat, consumers have expressed anger over pharmacies selling medicines strictly at the maximum retail price (MRP) without offering the usual 5–10 percent discount seen elsewhere in the country. A field visit on April 13 revealed that almost all essential and life-saving drugs, including insulin, were being sold at full price, putting additional financial pressure on buyers, particularly those with chronic illnesses. Buyers alleged that while pharmacies in neighboring districts such as Rangpur and Kurigram continue to offer regular discounts, Patgram traders have stopped doing so, creating what appears to be an informal market control or syndicate. Pharmacy owners, however, claimed that rising operational costs, including rent and electricity, have made discounts unfeasible. Some businesspeople also hinted at an unofficial local decision discouraging commission or discount offers. Consumers reported filing complaints with the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection but said no effective action had been taken. Observers stressed the need for stronger oversight to ensure transparency in the life-saving medicine market and protect ordinary consumers from financial strain.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday announced a naval blockade on Iran, declaring that American forces would intercept ships entering or leaving Iranian ports. The move followed the collapse of peace talks in Islamabad after Iran refused to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump warned that any Iranian vessels approaching the blockade would be destroyed, claiming that Iran’s navy had already suffered heavy losses. The U.S. Central Command confirmed the blockade’s initiation, stating it would cover all Iranian coastal areas but would not disrupt international transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian leaders rejected the threat, with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf vowing not to yield and warning of severe retaliation. The Revolutionary Guard Corps labeled the U.S. action as “piracy” and released footage showing U.S. destroyers retreating after Iranian warnings. Britain, Russia, Spain, and China criticized the blockade, calling it reckless and harmful to global stability. Following Trump’s announcement, global oil prices rose by 7 percent to $102.29 per barrel, while U.S. crude climbed 8 percent to $104.24. Germany responded to the energy shock by announcing temporary fuel tax cuts to ease domestic pressure.

US President Donald Trump has expressed strong anger at American media outlets for their coverage of the ongoing Iran war. In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump accused leading organizations such as The New York Times and CNN of spreading 'fake news.' He claimed that despite Iran being 'completely devastated' by US military operations, the media was portraying the situation as if Iran was performing well in the conflict. Trump specifically criticized The New York Times, alleging that it was deliberately publishing false information and should apologize for its reporting. He also questioned the media’s integrity, asking whether they had any sense of shame or decency. Earlier, on April 13, Trump accused CNN of broadcasting a 'fake' Iranian statement and warned of an investigation. His administration even threatened to revoke the broadcast licenses of certain outlets, labeling their actions as 'treasonous.' The dispute follows the February 28 launch of 'Operation Epic Fury,' after which US media questioned the effectiveness and humanitarian impact of Trump’s war strategy, prompting his latest outburst.
