The family of BNP leader and former ward councilor Chowdhury Alam has filed a complaint with a tribunal seeking justice for his enforced disappearance. Alam was the first victim of enforced disappearance under the Awami League government. Reports indicate that 18 individuals, including Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya and Ziaul Ahsan Zia, have been named as accused. The family claims that on June 20, 2010, Alam was attacked by individuals identifying themselves as RAB officers while returning from United Hospital in Gulshan. Local residents captured a man named Billal, allegedly a member of RAB-1, and handed him over to Gulshan Police Station. On the night of June 25, law enforcement officials allegedly abducted Alam in a white microbus from Indira Road, Farmgate. Fourteen years have passed, but his whereabouts remain unknown.

Mark Carney, newly elected leader of Canada’s Liberal Party, has strongly rejected the idea of Canada becoming the 51st state of the United States. His statement came in response to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent suggestion that Canada should join the U.S. to benefit from lower tariffs and increased military protection. On Sunday, Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen announced that Israel would "immediately" cut off electricity supply to Gaza. Cohen stated, "We will take all necessary measures to bring back all hostages and ensure that Hamas no longer exists in Gaza after the war." Shortly after this declaration, Cohen signed the order to halt power supply to Gaza. According to The Wall Street Journal, Israel plans to first stop the entry of goods into Gaza, followed by cutting off electricity and water.

At an anti-rape rally at Chittagong University (CU), marketing student Sumaiya Shikder faced strong opposition after calling for the resignation of the university proctor. During her speech, some students began chanting “fake, fake” slogans. Khan Talat Mahmud Rafi, a fellow student, intervened and took the microphone from Sumaiya. Although Rafi attempted to continue the protest with slogans, dissenting students kept chanting “fake.” Eventually, Rafi announced the protest’s conclusion, and students dispersed.

A court has granted a seven-day remand for Hitu Sheikh, the prime accused in the Magura child rape case, while three other accused have been placed on five-day remands. The remand hearing took place on Sunday night. The accused include the child’s brother-in-law Sajib Hossain (18), her sister’s father-in-law Hitu Mia (42), a 17-year-old minor, and their mother Jabeida Begum (40). According to the victim’s family, the incident took place last Thursday when the child visited her sister’s home in Nijnanduali village near Magura.

The child rape survivor from Magura is currently undergoing treatment at the Pediatric ICU of CMH, Dhaka. The ISPR has dismissed reports of her death as false rumors. Earlier, social media was flooded with misinformation about the child’s condition, with some even posting condolence messages. On Saturday evening, the child was transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s ICU to CMH for better medical care.

A female garment worker was killed and another injured after being hit by a truck at the Banani Chairmanbari U-turn on Monday. In protest, garment workers blocked both sides of the Chairmanbari road and halted traffic on the Elevated Expressway, causing severe congestion. The deceased was identified as Minara Akter, while the injured worker, Sumaiya Akter, has been admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital. Police are trying to control the situation.

Bangladesh and India have failed to reach an agreement on the water sharing of the Ganges River due to disputes over the Farakka Barrage. During the dry season, Bangladesh does not receive adequate water, while in the monsoon season, India releases water without prior notice, causing sudden floods. A two-day bilateral meeting was recently held, but no consensus was reached. Representatives from both countries measured the Ganges’ water flow at Farakka. On the first day, they discussed water sharing and signed the meeting minutes. However, discussions on border rivers on the second day ended without any signatures on the minutes.

Tehran has strongly condemned Canada’s newly imposed sanctions against prominent Iranian individuals and institutions, calling them politically motivated. The sanctions target seven individuals and several organizations allegedly linked to arms production and the supply of weapons to Russia for use in the Ukraine war. Iranian official Isa Kameli denounced Ottawa’s move as “illegal and unlawful,” claiming it violates the human rights of the Iranian people and holds the Canadian government accountable on the international stage. A female police constable named Iti was assaulted on Savar Road, Dhaka, and later admitted to Savar Government Hospital in critical condition. According to the victim, she was on an urgent assignment to Kaliakair Police Station when a local market committee leader stopped her rickshaw over a speed dispute. Despite informing him of her police duty, the leader detained the rickshaw due to traffic congestion. When the argument escalated, he reportedly struck her with a stick, knocking her off the rickshaw while mocking her authority as a police officer. The suspect has been identified as a driver of a local BNP leader.

Just four days after its official maiden flight, aviation innovator Julhas Molla’s homemade aircraft once again took to the skies. On Sunday, the aircraft soared over the Jamuna riverbank in Jafarganj, with retired Bangladesh Biman pilot Captain Abdullah Al Faruq and officials from the Civil Aviation Authority in attendance. Captain Faruq praised Julhas’ research and emphasized the importance of further development. During the event, Julhas took his mother and younger brother on an aerial tour aboard a BCL Aviation R66 helicopter while receiving valuable insights on aviation.
