At a press conference held at the Commission of Inquiry on Disappearances on Tuesday afternoon, Chairman Moinul Islam Chowdhury stated that law enforcement personnel involved in disappearances bear individual criminal responsibility, but this does not extend to the entire force. He emphasized that criminals often try to evade the law by hiding behind their religion, community, or social group. However, criminal offenses are always a matter of personal liability, and blaming an entire agency is not justified. He added that proper legal proceedings would enhance the reputation of law enforcement agencies.

U.S. President Donald Trump recently claimed that USAID had allocated $29 million to organizations run by two individuals to strengthen Bangladesh’s political landscape. In response, the interim government of Bangladesh dismissed Trump’s remarks as false. However, Foreign Affairs Adviser Towhid Hossain stated that this would not negatively impact relations between Dhaka and Washington. Addressing the misinformation, he clarified, “This is not an incitement; it is simply a baseless statement. Trump did not specify which organization in Bangladesh received the funds, nor do we know which two individuals he was referring to. Therefore, we do not see any reason to escalate this issue further.”

The names of martyrs from the July-August Revolution in the Sylhet Division have been included in the 2025 diary published by Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). The names appear on pages 118 to 120, listing a total of 33 martyrs from three districts of Sylhet. Faculty members and students of the university have welcomed this initiative, viewing it as a positive step towards preserving history. They believe that documenting the names of these martyrs will help future generations become more aware of the July-August Revolution and inspire them to uphold democratic values.

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, will present a report in Geneva on Wednesday detailing human rights violations and abuses linked to the July-August 2024 protests in Bangladesh. Representatives from Bangladesh’s interim government and civil society will participate in the session. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Atikul Islam has been accused of physically assaulting bus driver Ghulu Mia of Islam Paribahan in Muktagacha, Mymensingh. In protest, transport workers blocked the Mymensingh-Tangail highway for an hour by parking buses and trucks on the road. The incident reportedly took place during a dispute over a directive that restricted more than one bus from stopping at the terminal. While the driver and transport workers claim the UNO physically assaulted him, the UNO has denied the allegations.

Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Naib-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, has claimed that although the country regained its freedom on August 5, 2024, through a mass student movement, that hard-earned freedom is slipping away within just seven months. In a crackdown against mugging, police in Bhairab have arrested 60 suspected muggers from various locations in the upazila over the past four days. On Tuesday morning, 12 of them were sent to jail through the Kishoreganj court. According to Bhairab police, 16 suspects were detained on February 27, 8 on February 28, and another 18 on March 1. Among them, 35 are identified criminals with multiple cases of theft, mugging, and robbery filed against them across different police stations. The remaining 25 were detained on suspicion, with several complaints lodged against them as well.

A court has acquitted BNP leaders Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain and Zainul Abedin, along with 228 other party activists, in a case related to sabotage. The charges stemmed from an incident on February 8, 2018, when BNP activists allegedly vandalized vehicles and attacked a traffic police box while escorting Khaleda Zia to a special court hearing in Chawkbazar. The case alleged that approximately 1,500 BNP supporters engaged in violence, injuring several police officers. However, the court ruled in favor of acquittal due to a lack of substantial evidence.

RAB has arrested Golam Mortuza (55), a member of the convening committee of Pallabi Thana Awami League, in connection with a student murder case. OC Md. Hafizur Rahman confirmed the arrest. The advisory council has decided to grant martyr status to the military officers killed in the 2009 BDR mutiny at Pilkhana. Earlier, on February 23, a government directive declared that February 25 would be observed annually as 'National Martyr Soldiers’ Day.’ The mutiny and subsequent massacre resulted in the deaths of 57 army officers and a total of 74 individuals.

Joint General Secretary of the district Youth League, Nahid Hasan Saddam, has been arrested with locally made weapons in connection with the murder of pedestrian Mahmudul Hasan Munna during the Rangpur uprising. Saddam was seen participating in an armed attack on August 4 last year, with images of him holding weapons widely circulated on social media. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A.M.M. Nasir Uddin has stated that NID services should remain under the Election Commission (EC), warning that transferring it elsewhere would disrupt EC’s work. He confirmed that the commission’s stance would be communicated to the government in writing. In 2023, the League government legislated the transfer of NID services to the Ministry of Home Affairs, a move the EC has recently sought to overturn. According to Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, former Dhaka University professor C.R. Abrar is set to join the interim government’s advisory council.
