Most irrigation projects in Lakhai, Habiganj, have reportedly been under the control of Awami League leaders and activists, despite the organization being declared illegal by authorities. Local farmers allege that they were forced to pay charges three to four times higher than the official rates. Shockingly, portions of this extorted money are allegedly being used to fund anti-government plots in the name of ‘organizing the League.’
The farmers claim that the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) conducted a field investigation but failed to take any meaningful action. AM Rakibul Haque, Assistant Engineer of BADC and Member Secretary of the Upazila Irrigation Committee, admitted, "We conducted an initial investigation and found irregularities. A letter has already been issued instructing the return of the excess paddy collected from the farmers. If the allegations are proven, the individual involved will be banned from participating in next year's tender process."

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that from now on, anyone identified as a foreigner in the state will be pushed into Bangladesh, bypassing any legal procedures.
Speaking at the Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday, Sarma referred to an October 2024 ruling by the Supreme Court of India. In that verdict, the then Chief Justice declared that individuals who entered Assam after March 24, 1971, are not eligible for Indian citizenship. The ruling emphasized that no exceptions should be made for those who crossed the border during that time—they must be sent back to their country of origin. Drawing from this, Sarma asserted that Assam will implement a direct pushback policy for all detected foreigners.
Opposition parties have raised serious concerns about the legality of this unilateral decision by the Assam government.

Premature flooding, attributed to climate change, has submerged vast areas of harvest-ready Boro paddy in Gurudaspur and Tarash upazilas of Natore's Chalan Beel region.
Farmers are facing severe financial loss due to crop damage, compounded by labor shortages and storage issues.
Agricultural officer Harunur Rashid explained that 30% of the land was planted with Namla variety paddy after mustard harvesting. Although profitable, the method is risky, and rising water levels have put the harvest in jeopardy.
