Pintu emphasized the need for elections by December, arguing that a timely election could help resolve the public's current problems. “Since the government has announced plans for an election, it must now publish a clear roadmap immediately,” he added. He called for activating the Election Commission to ensure an acceptable and fair election process.

Pintu: The Ongoing Unrest Has Alarmed Citizens—A Free and Fair Election Is Urgently Needed

Several National Citizens’ Party (NCP) leaders have accused BNP leaders of involvement in 123 murders between August 7 last year and June 7 this year. However, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir contested these claims, stating that analysis of media reports reveals most incidents stemmed from personal, familial, or local conflicts rather than direct political motives. At least 41 deaths occurred during clashes between rival groups, with others related to dominance struggles, business disputes, and land conflicts.

Tensions flared in Sylhet’s Jaflong tourist area as a scuffle broke out between local youths and visiting tourists. Meanwhile, locals, including religious leaders and elders, have imposed restrictions on tourists visiting Utmachhara, another popular destination in Companiganj.

Locals reported that on Monday afternoon, an argument escalated into physical altercations between a group of tourists and some local youths near the Jaflong BGB camp. The tourists were later chased away by the locals. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ratan Kumar Adhikari commented, "It was a minor misunderstanding, quickly resolved by local elders."

In a related development, access to the Utmachhara tourist spot has been restricted by the local religious leaders, accusing tourists of engaging in inappropriate activities that were disturbing the social environment. The protest was led by Mufti Ruhul Amin Siraji, vice-president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam's local chapter.

A luxury SUV worth crores, found in the parking lot of a multi-storey building in front of the Kushtia Superintendent of Police’s office, has been claimed by Mumtarin Ferdous Dorin, daughter of murdered former MP Anwarul Azim Anar. Dorin confirmed that the Land Cruiser Prado belongs to her father and has demanded its return.

Alamgir Hossain, caretaker of the building, stated, "A cigarette company named Genuine Leaf has rented three floors here. Foreigners regularly visit, stay, and dine there. They arranged to park the vehicle here. Genuine Leaf's GM Belal Sir and CEO Zahid Sir were responsible for it. The SUV was brought here about three months ago and has since remained under their supervision."
