Rangpur Community Medical College Hospital has announced a free hernia and hydrocele surgery programme for financially disadvantaged and underprivileged patients. Hospital authorities said eligible patients facing financial hardship will be able to receive the necessary operations entirely free of charge.

The National Citizen Party’s Lakshmipur district branch held a torch procession in Lakshmipur town on Wednesday night to protest an attack on NCP central leaders in Habiganj. The upazila-level marches are part of the party’s nationwide series of programmes throughout July.

According to the announced itinerary, marches will be held in Kanaighat and Osmaninagar upazilas on July 30. The programme will continue in Companiganj, Gowainghat and Jaintapur upazilas on July 31. A group of Lebanese lawyers has filed a case against influential banker Antoun Sehnaoui after he met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington, according to a report published July 29. A court in Bhola sent former Char Fasson upazila BNP general secretary Motahar Hossain Alamgir Malatia to jail in a case filed by Youth League worker Md Salam. On July 29, Alamgir Malatia appeared before the Bhola District and Sessions Judge Court and sought bail, but the judge rejected the application and ordered his detention.

The case also names his two sons, Md Arafat Hossain Malatia and Fahad Hossain Malatia, as accused. Kamaischhara police outpost officer-in-charge SI Abhijit Roy confirmed the case on Wednesday night. He said 11 people were named and 100 unidentified people were accused in the case. According to Roy, Shah Rajib Ahmed was made the principal accused.

On Tuesday evening, NCP announced a protest programme after an attack on a convoy carrying its central leaders in Habiganj. BNP also announced a programme at the same time, creating tension in the town. Authorities decided to impose Section 144 to maintain law and order.

Tongi West Police arrested four leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations in a special operation in Tongi, Gazipur. The arrests were made in separate raids across different areas of Tongi on Tuesday night, and the four were sent to a Gazipur court on Wednesday after legal procedures were completed.

Those arrested were identified as Tongi West thana Awami League leader Dulal Mia, Alamgir Hossain, a candidate for president of Jubo League in Gazipur City Corporation’s Ward 54, Tongi East thana Jubo League member Md Selim, and Anisuzzaman Milon, president of Ward 42 Swechchhasebak League. Their reported ages are 50, 30, 42 and 55 respectively.

Police said the raids were conducted on the basis of confidential information. Tongi West Police Station officer-in-charge Md Arifur Rahman confirmed that the four were shown arrested in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act and sent to the Gazipur court on Wednesday afternoon. He said police operations against offenders would continue.

Police in Madaripur Sadar arrested Biplob Matubbar, 26, an absconding accused with arrest warrants in three cases, alleging he was preparing for a robbery. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh expressed deep concern over clashes between NCP and BNP activists in Habiganj and called on all sides to sincerely ensure political coexistence. Kurigram district leaders of the National Citizen Party, or NCP, held a protest march and rally against an alleged attack on the party’s central leaders and activists in Habiganj. The programme began at 5pm on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from the Victory Monument at College Mor and ended at Shapla Chattar after passing through key roads in the town. The Ministry of Religious Affairs later said in a press release that he had been removed from his position as khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque through due process.

The meeting, held on the instruction of Al-Haiatul Ulya chairman Allama Mahmudul Hasan, included representatives of six Qawmi education boards and was chaired by co-chairman Allama Sheikh Sajidur Rahman. Indian Assistant High Commissioner in Chattogram Shri Harish Kumar visited the historic Chandranath Dham and Satipith in Sitakunda on the afternoon of July 28, according to local sources. The visit was not announced in advance, and local administration and law-enforcement agencies said they had received no prior information. Union council member Jihadul Islam alleged that Sardar had links with local drug traders and that a drug network was harming young people. He demanded exemplary punishment and dismissal. He also alleged that Sardar neglected union council duties and maintained close ties with drug traders.

Bhanga police arrested Sardar and Asma Akter, the wife of alleged drug trader Roni Sheikh, from a house in Nurullaganj on Monday night with 900 yaba tablets, the report said. It further alleged that Roni and Asma ran a large wholesale and retail drug network across the union with Sardar’s assistance.
