RAB-14 arrested Fazlul Haque Bacchu in a case alleging an attack on a journalist and extortion in Sakhipur, Tangail. According to the case statement, a group led by Bacchu allegedly attacked Nahid, his wife and children on 12 July at about 12:30pm while shutter work was being carried out at a shop in front of Nahid's home. Local residents took the seriously injured Nahid to Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex. Nahid filed the extortion and assault case the same day. Bacchu had been absconding and was arrested nearly 14 days later. Police sources said he has seven to eight previous cases.

Retired army officer Major Khandaker Mohammad Sajjadul Islam told International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Sunday that he witnessed the killing of a detainee during a RAB operation on July 11, 2011, his first night after joining the force. He alleged that after the convoy stopped at a bridge reached via Tongi’s Ahsanullah Master Flyover, Ziaul Ahsan held a blindfolded and hand-bound detainee against the railing, shot him from behind in the head and threw him below.

Sajjad testified as the sixth witness in the crimes against humanity case against dismissed army officer Major General Ziaul Ahsan, concerning allegations of enforced disappearances, torture and killings during the Awami League’s roughly 15-year rule. He said he had been transferred to RAB on July 5, 2011, and that RAB-3 commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Rafiqul Islam told him to join the night operation on Ziaul Ahsan’s instructions.

The court had previously rejected Zubayer’s bail application in the same case on July 12. Other accused in the case, Ahmed Rafid Kader Rivu, Sheikh Mahmud Yasin and Sani Chowdhury, are on bail.

Syed Asaduzzaman filed the case against Zubayer and five others on May 10, accusing them of fraud, breach of trust and document forgery. The court issued summons that day and ordered the accused to appear by June 17. When none appeared on the scheduled date, the court issued arrest warrants against all six accused. Bangladesh Azad Party has filed a complaint with the prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal accusing former presidents Abdul Hamid and Shahabuddin Chuppu of crimes against humanity.
