Rana Islam, 23, died after falling from the roof of a moving bus on the Sakhipur-Kalihati road in Tangail early Friday morning. Traveling with his wife and mother to celebrate Eid in his village, Rana had climbed onto the bus roof after feeling unwell. His family lost track of him when they got off the bus at Pabna bus stand. Police recovered his body near the road and are investigating the incident.
Jahangir Kabir alias Lipton, once a feared extremist leader in Kushtia, has been arrested by the army along with three associates. Formerly aligned with the banned group Gono Mukti Fouj and later linked to controversial RAB officer Ziaul Ahsan, Lipton allegedly ran a network involving contract killings and arms trade. Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq has granted amnesty to 645 prisoners, including both Omani and foreign nationals, on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. The royal decree, announced Thursday, highlights the Sultan’s commitment to humanitarian values by releasing over six hundred inmates and arranging the repatriation of foreign prisoners at the state’s expense. Sultan Haitham, who ascended the throne in 2020, extended his Eid greetings to the released prisoners and their families, emphasizing Oman’s focus on mercy, unity, and social cohesion.
Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury confirmed that there are no security concerns across the country and patrols have been increased to ensure public safety. Speaking after a visit to the Sadarghat launch terminal, he said tickets are being sold at government-fixed prices and most launches are departing on time. Over the last five days, 824 launches have left the terminal, transporting nearly 800,000 passengers from the southern region to their homes ahead of the Eid holidays.
In a joint operation led by the Bangladesh Army, notorious criminal Shaheen and two close associates were arrested in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday morning. The raid led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, yaba tablets, and sharp weapons. Shaheen faces over 20 criminal cases, including murder and robbery. Previously arrested in 2023, he had resumed criminal activities after securing bail. Gold prices have been increased in Bangladesh, as announced by the Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association. A 63-year-old widow, Morium Begum, from Uttar Anontoram village in Pirgacha, Rangpur, has filed a complaint accusing a local man, Bulu Master, of trying to seize her remaining 5 percent inherited land. Buyers prefer these locally raised animals over farm-fattened ones for their variety and lower prices. The National Eidgah in Dhaka is ready to host the main Eid-ul-Azha congregation at 7:30 AM on Saturday, accommodating up to 35,000 worshippers. Mufti Mohammad Abdul Malek will lead the prayer. If the weather is unfavorable, the main prayer will shift to Baitul Mukarram Mosque at 8:00 AM. The area is equipped with top-tier drainage, security, and facilities including separate zones for women, medical services, and VIP sections. Eight temporary cattle markets have also been set up for Eid sacrifices.
