A court in Feni has ordered both a husband and wife to be sent to jail after hearing two separate cases they filed against each other. The order was issued on Wednesday afternoon by Judicial Magistrate Minhaj Uddin following arguments from both sides. The court found that the disputes could not be settled through compromise.

According to court sources and the husband’s lawyer, Md. Suman of Sonapur village in Sonagazi upazila married Nasima Akter of Bhoag village in October 2025. Two months after the marriage, Nasima allegedly left home with four bhori of gold ornaments and one lakh taka with the help of an acquaintance. Suman’s father, Bachchu Mia, then filed a theft case against her. In response, Nasima filed a dowry case against her husband and in-laws.

Feni Court Inspector Saiful Islam confirmed that after hearings in both cases, the court ordered imprisonment for the couple as the family dispute could not be resolved through mediation.

A Bangladeshi court has authorized the exhumation of popular film actor Salman Shah’s body to uncover the mystery surrounding his death. The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana issued the order on May 24, directing that the body be exhumed in the presence of an executive magistrate for examination, preparation of a report, and autopsy.

The decision followed a petition filed on May 20 by CID Inspector Ziaul Morshed, who stated that re-examining the remains was necessary to determine the true cause of death. After the court approved the request, officials said the exhumation and autopsy would proceed once administrative procedures were completed.

According to case records, Salman Shah was found unconscious at his New Eskaton Road residence on September 6, 1996, and later declared dead at a hospital. An unnatural death case was filed at Ramna Police Station, and he was buried at the Shahjalal shrine premises in Sylhet. Three individuals were sentenced to imprisonment and fined by a mobile court in Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur. The sentencing took place on Tuesday evening around 7 p.m., led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Fateha Tuz Johra. The convicts, identified as Tanvir Islam Piyal (28), Farizul Islam (24), and Pallab Roy, were arrested during a special anti-narcotics operation conducted by police in the Mohila College Mor and Viayil Union areas.

Following their arrest, the executive magistrate conducted the mobile court on-site and sentenced each of the three under the Narcotics Control Act to six months of imprisonment without labor and a fine of 200 taka. Chirirbandar Police Officer-in-Charge Mahamudun-Nabi stated that police operations against drugs will continue to build a drug-free society and that strict legal action will be taken against both drug dealers and users.

Local residents praised the anti-drug operation and urged the administration to continue such initiatives to prevent the spread of drugs. Law enforcement authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against narcotics.

Police in Mirsarai, Chattogram, have rescued three teenagers who had been missing since June 7 and returned them to their families. The boys, all aged 14, disappeared from their homes in the Jorarganj area, prompting their families to contact local authorities. Using information technology, Sub-Inspector (unarmed) Md. Zishan Ahmed led the investigation that traced the teenagers to the Patenga area of Chattogram city, where they were found on the night of June 10.

The rescued boys were identified as Morsalin, Meheraj Hossain, and Md. Raisul, all from different villages in Mirsarai. During questioning, they told police they had left home due to family-related mental stress and had planned to find jobs in the city. After completing legal formalities, police handed them over to their guardians.

Jorarganj Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Abdul Halim expressed satisfaction over the safe return of the boys and urged parents to be more attentive to their children. He also noted that regular police operations continue to curb theft, drugs, and other crimes in the area.

A journalist in Pabna’s Bhangura upazila has been sued for alleged extortion after publishing a report about a BNP leader accused of fraud. The case was filed on Tuesday in the Pabna Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court by Shikha Khatun, wife of the accused BNP leader Sohel Rana. The journalist, Masud Rana, is the joint general secretary of Bhangura Press Club and a correspondent for the daily Kaler Kantho.

Earlier, on Friday night, Sohel Rana was beaten and tied up by locals who accused him of defrauding them of large sums of money by promising government benefits such as VGD cards, tube wells, latrines, and houses. The next day, 35 victims filed a fraud case against him at Bhangura Police Station. Sohel Rana, a ward-level BNP vice president from Rangalia village, was later sent to jail after seeking bail in court.

Following the lawsuit against Masud Rana, Bhangura Press Club leaders and local journalists expressed deep concern, condemning the case as false and demanding its withdrawal.

A child named Tamim went missing in the Meghna River on Tuesday afternoon while delivering lunch to his fisherman father in Sonadia Union’s Paschim Charchenga village under Hatiya upazila of Noakhali. According to local sources, Tamim, the only son of fisherman Shahadat Hossain, accidentally fell into the river while playing with a cousin after his father had finished eating. Family members and locals searched for hours but failed to locate the child.

Fire Service and Coast Guard personnel later arrived at the scene, but the rescue operation could not begin immediately as Hatiya lacks a diving team. The absence of divers sparked frustration among residents. Local official Abdul Mannan Rana said no effective rescue effort was visible for a long time. The health department has formed a three-member investigation committee following the rape of a child patient’s mother at Natore Modern Sadar Hospital. The committee has been instructed to submit its report within five working days. Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Moshior Rahman confirmed the formation of the committee on Wednesday but declined to disclose the members’ names for the sake of the investigation. He stated that two members are officials from outside the health department and one is from the hospital.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday night when a hospital cleaner named Amit allegedly lured the mother of a two-year-old patient to the lift area under the pretext of giving medicine and raped her. A police sub-inspector named Moinul Islam was injured in a knife attack by unidentified miscreants in Shahjahanpur upazila of Bogura on Tuesday night. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. near the Pepsi Company area between Banani and Phultala. According to police and local sources, the officer was returning to the Kaigari police outpost after completing an investigation when several attackers intercepted him and attempted to snatch important case documents. During a verbal altercation, the assailants stabbed him and fled the scene.

Sub-inspector Moinul Islam sustained a serious injury below his right knee. A local autorickshaw driver rescued him and took him to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura for treatment. The officer-in-charge of Kaigari police outpost, Sufian, confirmed the incident and said that Moinul Islam is currently under medical care.

Law enforcement agencies have launched an operation to identify and arrest the attackers, according to police sources.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted extensive operations across border areas and other regions in May 2026, seizing smuggled goods valued at Tk 177.78 crore. The confiscated items included 3.6 kilograms of gold, 4.1 kilograms of silver, thousands of clothing items, cosmetics, imitation jewelry, fireworks, electronics, and vehicles. BGB also recovered various weapons, including pistols, rifles, rocket launchers, and ammunition.

In addition to contraband goods, BGB seized a large quantity of narcotics and intoxicants during the same period. These included over 1.6 million yaba tablets, nearly 4 kilograms of crystal meth, cocaine, heroin, phensedyl, foreign liquor, cannabis, and other drugs. The force detained 188 suspected smugglers, along with 92 Bangladeshi, 6 Indian, and 392 Myanmar nationals accused of illegal border crossings.

Legal actions have been initiated against those arrested, according to the report, as part of BGB’s ongoing efforts to curb cross-border smuggling and drug trafficking.

Police have detained 19 individuals in connection with an attack on highway police and vehicle vandalism in Burichang, Cumilla, along the Dhaka–Chattogram highway. The trial of former Member of Parliament Shamim Osman and 11 others has begun at the International Crimes Tribunal over alleged crimes against humanity linked to killings in Narayanganj during the July uprising. On Wednesday, Abul Bashar Anik, elder brother of slain activist Abul Hasan Swajan, testified as the first witness in the case.

In his testimony, Anik described that after the death of Abu Sayeed, he and his brother participated in anti-discrimination and mass movements. He alleged that on July 19, 150 to 200 armed men led by Shamim Osman, Ayon Osman, Azmeri Osman, and others attacked demonstrators at Jalkuri Link Road, killing two people and injuring several others. He further claimed that on August 5, another armed attack led by the same group left his brother fatally shot.

Anik stated that Swajan was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent surgery but died the next day, August 6. He also said no inquest or autopsy was conducted before burial on August 7.

At least twelve people were killed and nine others injured in a shooting at a slum in Johannesburg, South Africa, on the night of June 10, 2026. Two men were killed and another injured after being electrocuted while installing an irrigation pump in a pond at Kochukata in Nilphamari Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. at Babur Bazar in Kochukata Union. The deceased were identified as Jalal Uddin, 45, of Hajipara village, and Mujibur Rahman, 50, of Kutipara Nadirpar village. The injured, Mithu Islam, 30, was admitted to Nilphamari Modern Sadar Hospital in critical condition.

According to Kochukata Union Parishad Chairman Abdur Rauf, the accident happened when the victims were connecting electricity to a pump set up to drain water from a pond for fishing. Nilphamari police recovered the bodies and sent them to the morgue for autopsy.

Local authorities have not yet provided further details about the cause of the electrocution or any ongoing investigation into the incident.

Vandals set fire to the July Memorial in Netrokona town, according to a report published on June 10, 2026. A 25-second video circulating on social media shows three young men descending from the base of the monument near the Mogra River bridge in Moktarpara area at night, while slogans of 'Sheikh Hasina' and 'Joy Bangla' are heard. A former pilot of a Canadian airline has been arrested for allegedly operating flights for 17 years using a forged license. According to Canadian police, 59-year-old Geoffrey Wall flew more than 900 domestic and international flights between 2009 and 2025. Air Canada stated that he was removed from duty immediately after the forged documents were discovered last year and that the company voluntarily reported the matter to Transport Canada.

Police evidence indicates that Wall deceived both Air Canada and the country’s civil aviation authority by presenting false qualification certificates until his retirement last year. Peel Regional Police Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich said Wall began his career in 1998 and had a valid commercial pilot license but lacked the higher-level Airline Transport Pilot License required for captains. The fraud was detected during a routine review when inconsistencies were found in his records.

On June 1, Wall was charged with seven counts, including fraud, document forgery, and possession of a fake trademark. Transport Canada has launched an investigation into the case.
