Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified operations in the southwest border region to curb illegal hoarding and smuggling of fuel and edible oil. The Jessore Region, covering about 600 kilometers across Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, Jessore, Satkhira, and Khulna, is conducting 464 patrols daily through two sectors, seven battalions, and 116 border outposts. A madrasa teacher from Gabbaria village in Barishal’s Uzirpur upazila has demanded a proper investigation into her husband’s mysterious death. On Friday, Sarmin Akter Nipa held a press conference at her brother’s house in the Dakbangla area, accompanied by her two sons. She said her husband, Mohammad Shahjahan Hawlader Suman, 44, was found dead on April 6 at their home in Uttarkhan, Dhaka. Returning from work that morning, she found the door open and her husband unresponsive inside. Neighbors later declared him dead.

Nipa alleged that despite her request, locals refused to take her husband to the hospital and instead arranged for a quick funeral. After informing her mother-in-law, she and her children were allegedly attacked by in-laws, who expressed suspicion over the death. The Forest Department recovered three locally made guns and four cartridges during a raid in the Sundarbans near Satkhira on Friday morning. Police in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar conducted a special operation and recovered 30,000 yaba tablets. During the raid, officers detained a man named Ziaur Rahman, aged 36, from Srimura Purba Para area of Chakmarkul Union’s Ward No. 7.

According to police sources, the yaba tablets were found hidden beneath the driver’s seat of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw based on information provided by the detainee. Ziaur Rahman is the son of Abdul Hasim, a resident of Srimura in Chakmarkul Union. The police have confirmed that legal proceedings related to the incident are currently underway, as stated by Ramu Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam Bhuiyan.

A Rohingya youth lost his leg in a landmine explosion near the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, on Friday morning. The blast occurred around 10:30 a.m. near border pillar BRM-21, within the Balukhali Border Outpost area. The mine, reportedly planted by Myanmar’s armed rebel group Arakan Army, detonated about 150 meters inside Myanmar territory. The injured, identified as Md. Sadek, 25, from Block F-13 of Camp 10 in Ukhiya, was first taken to the MSF hospital in Kutupalong and later referred to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Zahirul Islam, commanding officer of the 64th Border Guard Battalion in Ukhiya, confirmed the incident and urged residents near the border to remain cautious. Local sources noted that landmine explosions in the border area are not new. On March 29, a similar explosion at the Balukhali border injured a 15-year-old Rohingya boy named Abdul Hakim from Camp 19.

A Bangladeshi expatriate named Sohan, aged 21, from Ranisankail in Thakurgaon, was shot dead by armed assailants in Katlehong, near Johannesburg, South Africa. According to family sources, the shop owner was present but had gone to fetch a candle after a power outage when several armed men entered and opened fire on Sohan, killing him on the spot. Police in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur district arrested two fugitives on Thursday night by disguising themselves as farmers. The detainees were identified as Kawser Sheikh, a known drug dealer and member of a highway robbery gang from Paschim Hasamdia area of Bhanga municipality, and Khabir Matubbar, a Nasimon driver from Purbo Sadordi village under Chumurdi union. A fatal road accident occurred on Friday morning, April 10, 2026, in the Salandar area of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila when a BRTC bus and a pickup truck collided head-on on the Dhaka-Panchagarh highway. One person was killed and three others were injured in the crash. The injured were admitted to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital for treatment.

According to Thakurgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monir Hossain, the BRTC bus was traveling from Panchagarh to Rangpur, while the tile-laden pickup was heading from Dhaka to Panchagarh. The collision took place at Singpara in Salandar. The deceased, a tile company employee, was critically injured and later declared dead at Thakurgaon 250-bed General Hospital. His identity has not yet been confirmed.

The bus helper and the pickup driver were among the injured. After receiving initial treatment, they were referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced care.

A Bangladeshi man named Saleh Ahmed Joydhar, aged 30, was shot dead by an Indian Khasi on Thursday afternoon near the Kalairag (Kawar Tuck) border area of Companiganj upazila in Sylhet. A joint operation by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 2,000 liters of illegally stored loose soybean oil in Rupganj, Narayanganj. The raid took place around midnight on Thursday at Kazipara Chourasta in Tarab Union, where two warehouses owned by individuals named Raju and Khorshed were searched.

Authorities reported finding nine barrels of unbottled soybean oil that had been collected from local markets and stored for illegal bottling and marketing. Evidence showed that the oil was being repackaged and labeled under the names 'Bondhon Plus' and 'Bismillah' for sale in the market.

Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Marjanul Haque of Narayanganj district administration ordered the immediate sealing of the warehouses. Legal proceedings related to the incident are currently underway.
