In Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet, attacks, vandalism, and looting were reported following the murder of Samad Ahmad. Two separate complaints were filed—one in the Sylhet Senior Judicial Magistrate Court by Sajna Begum on March 16, and another at Osmaninagar Police Station by Laila Begum on March 28. The incidents have created severe tension and fear in the area.

According to the reports, Samad Ahmad was killed on March 8 during a village arbitration meeting over a road dispute. His wife, Dolly Begum, filed a murder case naming 13 accused and several unidentified persons. Police have arrested six suspects, but the main accused, Sakil Mia, remains at large. The police officer in charge said operations are continuing to arrest him soon.

Following the murder, Sajna Begum’s and Laila Begum’s homes were attacked and looted by unidentified groups. The accused parties deny involvement, claiming the allegations are fabricated. Local residents have urged urgent administrative intervention to restore law and order.

A banned Chhatra League leader has been accused of severely beating a 76-year-old freedom fighter, Wahiduzzaman Naimul, in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj on Tuesday afternoon. The attack allegedly took place in front of the Gist Polytechnic Institute near the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. Naimul suffered broken limbs and deep head injuries from sharp weapons and was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

Witnesses said the assault occurred during a land measurement dispute involving Naimul and a local group. The accused, Tuhin Pradhan, a former assistant secretary of Gazaria upazila Chhatra League and vice president of Donia College unit, reportedly led 10–12 attackers. Naimul claimed Tuhin and his associates ambushed him after a local arbitration meeting and continued to threaten him later that night.

Dr. Sharmin Sultana of Gazaria Upazila Health Complex confirmed Naimul’s critical condition, citing multiple fractures and severe head injuries. Police said they visited the scene and would take legal action based on the complaint, while attempts to contact the accused were unsuccessful.

A Chattogram court has ordered the imprisonment of two former directors of United Commercial Bank (UCB), Aporup Chowdhury and Touhid Sipar Rafiquzzaman, in a case involving the embezzlement and foreign transfer of Tk 25 crore through hundi. The order was issued on Tuesday morning by Senior Special Judge Mizanur Rahman after the two accused surrendered before the court.

According to the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) public prosecutor Mokarram Hossain, the case was filed by the ACC and names a total of 36 accused, including former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury of the Awami League government. So far, six accused are in jail while 32 remain absconding. The court has scheduled April 5 for the start of witness testimony.

The allegations state that Tk 25 crore was embezzled from UCB’s Chattogram Port Branch and laundered abroad. The court accepted the ACC’s charge sheet on January 7 this year, and the case remains under trial.

A Dhaka court has shown former Chhatra League vice president Mashiur Rahman arrested in the murder case of Sakil, who was killed during the anti-discrimination student movement in Mirpur. The order was issued on Tuesday by Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam, who also directed that Mashiur be sent to jail. Before the order, Mashiur was produced before the court, and Mirpur Model Police Sub-Inspector Md. Kabir Hossain requested that he be shown arrested in the case.

According to the application, secret information suggested Mashiur’s involvement in the killing. He is already in jail in connection with another murder case, and investigators argued that showing him arrested in this case was necessary for the investigation. The court granted the request after a hearing.

The case alleges that on August 4, 2024, Sakil left home to join a peaceful protest at Mirpur-10, where around 300 unidentified armed men opened fire on demonstrators. Sakil was shot and later died on August 7, 2024, while under treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Agargaon.

A case has been filed against Aminul Islam Sujon, the organizational secretary of Brahmanpara Upazila Awami League and former vice chairman of the upazila council, for allegedly assaulting acting headmistress Hasina Islam at Berakhla Abdul Matin Khasru Girls’ High School in Comilla. The incident occurred last Sunday, and the victim filed the case on Monday night at Brahmanpara Police Station, naming 11 accused including Sujon. The charges include attempted murder and violence against women.

According to the report, Sujon had previously been dismissed from his teaching post in 2019 for using a fake certificate and forging official signatures. The prosecution has filed formal charges against Abul Hasanat Abdullah, a former Member of Parliament and cousin of Sheikh Hasina, along with three others, in connection with the killing of two men in a staged crossfire in Agailjhara, Barishal, on February 2, 2015. The charges were submitted to International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Tuesday, accusing the defendants of crimes against humanity.

According to the formal complaint, the victims, Tipu Hawlader and Kabir Molla, were political rivals of Abul Hasanat Abdullah. The prosecution alleged that Abdullah, unable to defeat them politically, abused state power to eliminate them. He allegedly instructed the then Barishal Superintendent of Police, AKM Ehsan Ullah, to fabricate a case against the two men, leading to their extrajudicial killing by ASI Mahbul Islam and ASI Jasim Uddin near the Agailjhara bypass road.

The tribunal has scheduled the next hearing for April 15. Both ASI Mahbul Islam and ASI Jasim Uddin are currently in custody.

A Dhaka court has sentenced a man named Kajol to death for killing another person over a dispute involving five taka. The verdict was delivered on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, by Judge Md. Nurul Islam of the 11th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court in Dhaka. Along with the death sentence, the court also imposed a fine of 10,000 taka. Kajol, a resident of Jaria village in Purbadhala, Netrakona, was brought to court from prison for the verdict and later sent back to jail with the sentencing order.

According to the case details, the incident occurred in 2018 when Kajol demanded five taka from the victim. After a delay in payment, he stabbed the victim above the navel with a sharp knife, causing fatal injuries. Locals took the victim to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The victim’s son, Saiful, filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. The court framed charges against Kajol on September 30, 2018, and heard testimony from 11 of 15 witnesses during the trial.

International Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam stated that no one, regardless of rank, will be exempted in the Shapla Chattar killings case. He said the investigation into the 2013 incident during Hefazat-e-Islam’s mass gathering is in its final stage. On Tuesday, the tribunal ordered the imprisonment of former Deputy Inspector General of Police Abdul Jalil Mondol in connection with the case. Following the order, the Chief Prosecutor told reporters that the investigation report would be submitted soon.

Aminul Islam added that all past incidents of crossfire are being reviewed to bring them under trial. Two separate cases have been filed under the Human Trafficking Prevention Act against nine brokers following the deaths of 12 young men from Sunamganj who drowned in the Mediterranean Sea while attempting to travel from Libya to Greece. The cases were lodged on Monday night at Jagannathpur and Dirai police stations, with five accused in one case and four in the other.

A man was killed in Comilla’s Barura upazila on Monday night after being attacked by his son during a family dispute. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on March 30, when the son, identified as Abul Kalam, allegedly assaulted his father, Ali Akbar, with a sharp weapon. Ali Akbar was taken to a local government hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Family members said Abul Kalam, aged 35, had been suffering from mental health issues for about two years and previously worked as an autorickshaw driver. Following the attack, police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and took it to the police station. With help from locals, the accused was detained and handed over to law enforcement.

The Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association has alleged that its secretary general, Md. Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, has been receiving continuous threats from various transport owners, workers, and organizations. The threats reportedly began after the association published reports on excessive fares during Eid travel and subsequent road accidents. In response, an online general diary (GD) was filed on Tuesday at the Demra Police Station in Dhaka.

According to the GD, Chowdhury has been advocating for passenger rights and safety for two decades. The association claimed that during the previous Awami League government, he faced multiple legal cases and imprisonment under pressure from transport groups. Following the latest reports, unidentified individuals were seen monitoring his movements and inquiring about his and his family’s whereabouts.

Chowdhury has also released an online video message seeking the prime minister’s intervention to ensure his personal safety amid the ongoing threats.

A Barishal court has sent Jihadul Islam Khan, joint general secretary of the district Chhatra Dal, to jail on charges of motorcycle theft in Mehendiganj. He was produced before the court on Sunday after being detained by police the previous night. According to police and local sources, Khan allegedly attempted to steal a rented motorcycle locked at a house in the Badarpur area around 1 a.m. Saturday. Police on patrol stopped him for questioning and detained him after inconsistencies appeared in his statements.

The motorcycle’s owner, Tanvir Islam, confirmed that the lock had been broken and filed a case with the local police station on Sunday. Police then showed Khan arrested in the case and sent him to jail through the court. Tanvir said he had bought the motorcycle with a loan and depended on it for his family’s livelihood, expressing gratitude for the police’s quick action.

Local BNP leader Asaduzzaman Mukta stated that although Khan holds a Chhatra Dal position, there had been prior complaints against him, and the party would take internal action if necessary.

A college student named Saidul Islam Sajib, aged 25, died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital following an attack in Lochanabad village of Rangasree Union, Bakerganj upazila, Barishal. The incident occurred on Saturday morning, March 28, 2026, when a group allegedly led by Milan Khan attacked Sajib’s family over a land dispute. Sajib, who had recently completed his honors final-year exams at Barishal Government College, suffered a brain hemorrhage and succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday.

Four other family members—Abul Hossain Khan, Piyara Begum, Hasan Ali Khan, and Ayesha Begum—were also injured and received primary treatment at the upazila health complex. Abul Hossain Khan later filed a case against eight individuals under case number GR 88/26.

Former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Abdul Jalil Mondol was presented before the International Crimes Tribunal on Tuesday in connection with the case filed over the 2013 Shapla Chattar killings during Hefazat-e-Islam’s mass gathering in Motijheel, Dhaka. He had been arrested the previous evening from the capital’s Sabujbagh area.

According to the report, Mondol, a resident of Pabna, previously held several key positions in the police force.
