A 19-year-old Bangladeshi woman named Nishat Jannat was killed after being struck by a garbage truck while crossing the road near Jackson Heights in New York’s Woodside area around midnight on Sunday local time. Her father, Helal Uddin, an imam at Baitul Jannah Mosque in Woodside, said the family moved to New York eight years ago seeking a better future. Nishat was the second of four daughters. Her funeral prayer will be held Tuesday after noon at Baitul Jannah Mosque, followed by burial in New York.

A college student named Saidul Islam Sajib, aged 25, died early Tuesday after being seriously injured in an attack linked to a land dispute in Bakerganj, Barishal. He passed away around 2 a.m. while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Sajib, a master's student at Government Barishal College, was attacked along with his relatives last Saturday when they began constructing a shop on disputed land near their home in Lochanabad village.

According to his father, Abul Hossain Khan, a group led by local resident Md. Milon Khan allegedly attacked them with sharp weapons and sticks, injuring several family members. Sajib was first treated locally and later transferred to Dhaka after his condition worsened due to brain hemorrhage. His parents and other relatives also sustained injuries and received treatment at Bakerganj Upazila Health Complex.

Police confirmed that both parties involved in the land dispute have filed separate cases. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to arrest the accused.

A mobile court in Matlab South upazila of Chandpur sentenced the owner of Nawrin Filling Station to one year of imprisonment and fined him 5,000 taka for failing to provide proper records of fuel collection and sales. The operation was conducted on the night of March 30 under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner Tanvir Rabbi, based on intelligence information.

According to the Chandpur District Administration, the filling station collected about 71,000 liters of petrol, octane, and diesel from Padma Oil Company between March 9 and March 24 but could not produce accurate documentation of the transactions. The station also failed to show its sales register for the same period.

Under Section 45 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009, the mobile court imposed the sentence and fine. The magistrate also instructed that the stored fuel be supplied to customers present at the site.

Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Masud has filed a general diary (GD) with Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station, alleging the spread of false, baseless, and defamatory information about him on Facebook. One post came from an account named 'Leo Cipher' and another from a page titled 'BNP Media Cell Jhenaidah'.

Ripon, aged 23, for allegedly creating fake Facebook accounts using the names and photos of senior government, police, and administrative officials. The arrest took place on Monday, March 30, near the Cancer Building of PG Hospital under Shahbagh Police Station. Two mobile phones were seized during the operation.

According to DB sources, a fraud ring had been using the identities of high-ranking officials to open fake Facebook accounts, post misleading content, and deceive the public. Analysis of the recovered phones revealed a logged-in fake account named “Doctor. Ayesha Khatun,” which was used to post deceptive materials featuring the Inspector General of Police and other key figures.

Preliminary interrogation indicated that Ripon had been conducting these fraudulent activities for a long time with the help of accomplices. Legal proceedings against him are currently underway.

A mobile court in Singra upazila of Natore fined a trader one lakh taka and sentenced him to two months in jail for illegally storing 11,000 liters of fuel. The operation took place around 3 p.m. on Monday at Asha Traders in Sherkol Bazar, owned by Altaf Sheikh. The court, led by Executive Magistrate and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah Al Rifat, found the trader guilty of hoarding fuel without valid documentation.

During the raid, officials recovered 49 barrels of diesel, 5 barrels of octane, 2 barrels of petrol, and 2 barrels of lubricants, totaling 11,000 liters. Police in Noakhali have arrested eight people in connection with the killing of teenage gang leader Md. Nirab in the Andarchar area of Sadar upazila. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon following a dispute over territorial control and drug sales. Nirab was attacked in the Bangla Bazar area of Purba Maizchara village and later died while receiving treatment at Noakhali General Hospital. On Monday afternoon, the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court ordered the suspects to be sent to jail.

According to police and local sources, Nirab was involved in various criminal activities including theft, robbery, extortion, and illegal occupation. He was known locally as both a drug dealer and a gang leader. Police subsequently detained eight of them for investigation.

RAB-12 members arrested two individuals in Sirajganj’s Salonga area with counterfeit currency worth 1,269,700 taka. The detainees were identified as Robiul Islam, 20, and Abul Hasan, 29, both residents of Berabajua village in Raiganj upazila. The arrests were announced by RAB-12 Commander Additional DIG Md. Atikur Rahman Mia during a press briefing at the Sirajganj headquarters on Monday afternoon.

According to RAB-12, the operation was conducted on Sunday afternoon near the New Mayer Anchol Hotel in Hatikumrul following a tip-off about illegal trading of fake notes. The suspects were initially caught with 5,000 taka in counterfeit bills and two mobile phones. Based on their information, RAB later recovered an additional 1,264,700 taka in fake notes from a rented house in Dhopakandi area.

During preliminary questioning, the detainees reportedly admitted to running a counterfeit currency business across Sirajganj and nearby areas for an extended period. A case has been filed against them at Salonga Police Station.

Former Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mandal was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Monday evening from his residence in the capital’s Sabujbagh area. According to DB sources, he was wanted in a case related to the 2013 violence and casualties at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel, for which an arrest warrant had been issued earlier. The arrest was carried out based on that warrant.

DB Chief Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam confirmed the arrest, stating that Mandal was accused in a case filed with the International Crimes Tribunal over the Shapla Chattar incident. He added that the former police official would be produced before the court. Police sources said the investigation into the case had recently gained momentum, leading to renewed legal actions against those involved.
