A court in Netrokona on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, ordered Jamaat leader Nazrul Islam, aged 36, to be sent to jail in connection with an extortion case. Nazrul, son of Naib Uddin from Kaira village and general secretary of Ward 9 of Bangla Union Jamaat, appeared before the Netrokona Sadar Amli Court, where the judge issued the order. The case was filed by businessman Md. Rubel Rana, 39, who alleged that Nazrul and others had been demanding Tk 20 lakh from him for a long time.
According to the complaint, on July 7, 2025, Rubel Rana was intercepted on Azhar Road by a group led by Nazrul Islam, who allegedly took him to Moktarpara field and demanded the money. When he refused, he was threatened with death, and Tk 20,000 was taken from his pocket. The next day, Nazrul allegedly threatened Rubel’s manager over the phone. CCTV footage reportedly captured parts of the incident. Rubel runs a sand, stone, and coal business named Messrs Sandhi Traders in Netrokona.
The case also names four other accused, including A. Hekim from the same area. The court’s order was confirmed by the plaintiff’s lawyer, Saiful Islam Pradip.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized approximately 130,000 yaba tablets valued at around Tk 6.5 crore during a special operation in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. One suspected drug dealer was detained during the raid, according to a press release issued by Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon.
The seized yaba tablets were recovered from a residential house suspected of being used for drug trafficking. The Coast Guard stated that legal proceedings are underway against the detained individual and regarding the confiscated narcotics. The operation was conducted by the Teknaf station team as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug smuggling in the region.
Authorities have not yet disclosed further details about the suspect or the broader network involved, but the Coast Guard indicated that follow-up legal actions are in process.

Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana issued the order on June 16, 2026, after recording the complainant’s statement.
According to the case details, Dhipra, who married her classmate Dr. Rahmat Rashid, faced continuous physical and mental abuse from her in-laws due to her less affluent background. The complaint alleges that despite being doctors, the accused neglected her medical care and obstructed her professional progress. It also claims she was confined without food for three days before collapsing in front of her mother on June 4.
The complaint further states that the accused delayed taking her to a hospital, leading to her death en route to BIRDEM Hospital. It alleges that they used influence to avoid an autopsy and quickly buried her, describing the death as a planned murder rather than a natural one.
Dhaka court orders CID probe into alleged negligence death of female doctor in Dhanmondi
The trial of former Superintendent of Police Anisur Rahman and seven others has begun at International Crimes Tribunal-1 over the 2016 incident in which two Islami Chhatra Shibir leaders were allegedly shot and crippled by police in Jhikargacha, Jashore. Israfi alleged that both men were later shot in the legs and left untreated, leading to infections that required amputation.

Trial opens against ex-SP and others over 2016 police shooting of two Shibir leaders

According to Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Ajit Kumar Roy, the accused, Limon Mallik, allegedly strangled his wife, Sumona Ferdousi, on Monday morning at their home and then hung her body from a bamboo beam to make it appear as suicide. Limon reportedly left the house after locking the door and later returned in the afternoon, claiming that his wife had taken her own life. Police detained him that night after finding evidence of murder during preliminary investigation.
Ajit Kumar Roy stated that during initial questioning, Limon confessed to killing his wife. The case was filed by Sumona’s mother against Limon. The dispute reportedly stemmed from Sumona’s continued posting of TikTok videos and sharing of photos on social media, which had caused ongoing marital conflict.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident following the confession and case registration.

Following the incident, BGB detained four men from Roknupur area early Tuesday and handed them over to Gomastapur police. Later, police conducted a special operation and arrested three more individuals from the same locality. Officer-in-Charge Nure Alam of Gomastapur Police Station confirmed that a total of seven suspects are now in custody. Legal proceedings, including case filing, are underway.

Seven arrested in Gomastapur for allegedly aiding BSF push-in attempt at Roknupur border
A case has been filed two days after the public shooting death of Jubo Dal leader Masudul Haque Chowdhury Masud in Raozan, Chattogram. The case was lodged around midnight on Monday by his elder brother, Peyarul Haque Chowdhury, at Raozan Police Station. It names 11 identified suspects and eight unidentified ones. Police said several suspects had already been recognized from CCTV footage captured at the scene.
Masud was shot dead around 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, in front of Ashrafia Pharmacy at Choumuhani intersection in Pahartali Union. CCTV footage showed five to six armed assailants firing at his head to ensure his death. Witnesses and intelligence sources reported that the attackers arrived in a CNG-run autorickshaw and fired 8–10 rounds at close range before fleeing. Masud, a senior joint convener of Rangunia Upazila Jubo Dal and follower of MP Humam Quader Chowdhury, died on the spot.
Initial reports suggest the killing may be linked to disputes over sand extraction business or rivalry ahead of the upcoming union council election.
Case filed two days after Jubo Dal leader Masudul Haque’s killing in Raozan
Jahangirnagar University authorities have expelled two female students for two years on charges of possessing and consuming drugs in a dormitory room. The decision was made following a syndicate meeting held early Tuesday, June 16, 2026. The expelled students are Tanuja Tithi from the Department of Management Studies (51st batch) and Sanjida Amir Inisi from the Department of Drama and Dramatics (48th batch).
