Government party lawmaker Mujibur Rahman, representing Gazipur-1 constituency, has alleged that several 'torture cells' have been set up in different parts of Gazipur to carry out extortion activities. He made the allegation on Sunday during the monthly law and order committee meeting held at the Bhawal Conference Room of the Gazipur Deputy Commissioner’s office. Rahman called on the police administration to investigate who established these cells and what activities are taking place there.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Nurul Karim Bhuiyan, discussed the district’s law and order situation, including incidents of extortion, theft, and highway robbery. Mujibur Rahman stated that at least three to four such torture cells currently exist and urged police to take swift action, even if ruling party members are involved. He also demanded a precise list of criminals to ensure accountability while warning police not to harass innocent people.
Deputy Commissioner Bhuiyan said the allegation would be taken seriously and directed the police to investigate immediately, noting that such practices have no place under the current government.

According to media reports cited in his statement, the injured are Lokman Hakim, the mosque committee secretary, and Alam Sheikh, a regular worshipper.
He urged the government to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured, conduct a thorough investigation, arrest the perpetrators, and bring them to justice to restore public safety.
Jamaat leader condemns Khulna mosque shooting, cites law and order deterioration
A leader of the banned student organization Chhatra League was detained at Rajshahi University and handed over to police by the university administration. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Sunday near the university’s Paris Road area, when a group of students identified and detained Solaiman, a 2019–20 session student of the Botany Department and former religious affairs secretary of the Shahid Habibur Rahman Hall unit. His home district is Tangail’s Madhupur.
According to the university proctor’s office and students, Solaiman had previously been accused of torturing students during the July movement, including holding one at gunpoint. Witnesses said his mobile phone contained evidence of communication with the banned organization’s university branch general secretary. The proctor confirmed that the university handed him over to police after verifying the evidence.
Motihar Police Station’s officer-in-charge stated that Solaiman is an accused in an anti-terrorism case involving the banned Chhatra League and was recently seen at a rally in Shah Makhdum area. Police are keeping him in custody and plan to present him before court.

After investigation, the mobile court sentenced Md. Nazrul Islam of Dargahpur village to 10 days of imprisonment and Md. Aktarul Zaman of Raduli village to 14 days of imprisonment. Both were handed over to Shyamnagar Police Station for legal processing.
According to the 17 BGB commanding officer, the operation was carried out early in the morning, leading to the arrests and seizure.
