Police in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila have arrested Shamim, the prime suspect in the murder of day laborer Azizul Islam, aged 38. The arrest followed a violent incident on Monday morning after a land dispute between the families of Azizul and Shamim. According to the case statement, Shamim and several others allegedly attacked Azizul with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. He was taken to the local health complex and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died early Tuesday morning.
Following the killing, residents of Bormi Union’s Paitalbari area blocked the Bormi-Kawraid regional road on Tuesday afternoon, demanding the arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved. The victim’s brother, Taizul Islam, filed a case naming five accused, including Shamim, Fakir, Jamal Uddin, Hridoy, and Shahin, along with five unidentified suspects.
Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahinur Alam confirmed that Shamim was arrested soon after the incident and has been sent to jail.

During the altercation, Musa allegedly struck Yasin on the head with a GI pipe, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rescued Yasin and took him to Chandpur Sadar Hospital, where doctors provided initial treatment and referred him to Dhaka for advanced care. However, he died on the way near the Signboard area. The officer-in-charge of Chandpur Model Police Station described the incident as very tragic, adding that the body had been sent to the morgue and preparations for filing a case were underway.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident, and legal proceedings are expected to follow once the case is filed.

Police in Araihazar, Narayanganj, arrested Abul Kashem, 35, who is described as a gang leader accused in several criminal cases involving robbery, drugs, and illegal weapons. Police arrest alleged gang leader Abul Kashem in Araihazar on multiple charges

According to local and police sources, the dispute escalated when members of the opposing group threw chili powder into the eyes of Omar and his relatives, leaving them disoriented. One of the attackers then struck Omar in the neck with a sharp weapon, causing fatal injuries. He was rushed to Hajimchar Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Chandpur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Hajimchar police chief Mohammad Nazmul Hasan said operations are underway to arrest the suspects, including Habib Mridha, and that legal proceedings are in progress. A 20-year-old man named Md. Rashed Kazi was hacked to death by assailants in Khulna’s Labanchara area on Tuesday. He was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Sub-inspector Piyush Das of Labanchara Police Station said officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving the report and that the motive behind the killing is under investigation. He added that people known to Rashed were involved in the attack. The victim was the son of Kazi Anisur Rahman from Krishnanagar area.
The report also noted that on March 19, unidentified assailants had entered Rashed’s home and shot his father, mother, elder brother, and wife, indicating a possible link between the two violent incidents.
