A union parishad (UP) member in Netrakona’s Purbadhala upazila has been accused of forcibly taking a detained drug dealer from the custody of the Detective Branch (DB) police. The incident occurred on Monday night in Dattakunia village, where DB officers had arrested a man named Samrat, 58, with cannabis during an anti-drug operation.

According to police sources, after Samrat’s arrest, his elder brother, former UP member Babul Mia, along with several local residents, surrounded the DB team and allegedly took Samrat away from police custody. Additional police personnel and members of the district detective office later arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control.

Babul Mia denied the allegation, claiming he was not involved and that Samrat escaped during a scuffle with police. The district DB officer-in-charge, Debangshu Kumar Dey, confirmed the incident and said legal action against those involved is underway.

Man beaten to death over alleged cattle theft in Chapainawabganj

A man was beaten to death by locals on Tuesday morning in Bamondi area of Gangni upazila, Meherpur, after being suspected of theft. The incident occurred in front of Zaman Filling Station, where a group of four allegedly attempted to steal tires from Khokon Enterprise by breaking its lock. One suspect was caught by the shop owner’s nephew, Tushar, while the others fled with tires reportedly worth about three lakh taka.

According to local sources, the captured man was assaulted by residents and died at the scene. Police later recovered the body and sent it to Meherpur General Hospital morgue. Gangni Police Station Officer-in-Charge Uttam Kumar Das confirmed that an investigation is underway.

Authorities are working to identify the deceased, who is believed to be from Pabna district, and to locate the other members of the alleged theft group.

Man dies in mob beating over theft suspicion in Meherpur’s Gangni area

A passenger named Naosad, aged 24, was killed when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus collided with a battery-run autorickshaw at Tulshiganga Bridge intersection on the Naogaon-Bogura regional highway around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. According to the officer-in-charge of Naogaon Sadar Police Station, legal procedures are underway, and the deceased’s body will be handed over to his family after completion of formalities.

Bus hits autorickshaw in Naogaon, killing one and injuring two children

Four people died after consuming toxic liquor in the Balarhat area of Mithapukur upazila, Rangpur. A local union parishad member said the deaths were caused by excessive and toxic alcohol consumption, and families initially tried to conceal the matter to avoid autopsies.

Mithapukur police station’s officer-in-charge Ershad Hossain stated that the incident is being treated with utmost importance, and an investigation along with necessary legal procedures is underway.

Four die after drinking toxic liquor in Rangpur; police begin investigation

The dispute began over money related to the hand-washing custom during the ceremony. Following the incident, the bride’s relatives intercepted two microbuses carrying the groom’s party at separate locations.

Parbatipur Model Police Station’s officer-in-charge Abdul Wadud stated that police intervened to bring the situation under control. Around 3 a.m., the groom’s side took the bride away after signing a written undertaking.

Bride assaulted after hand-washing dispute sparks clash in Parbatipur

Police in Shibganj, Chapainawabganj recovered the body of a 14-year-old domestic worker named Noyoni Khatun on Monday night from a house in the Mohanbag area. The incident was confirmed by Shibganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Matiur Rahman. Noyoni, daughter of Rubel Ali from Akhira village in Dhainagar Union, had been working at the home of a woman named Jannatul Ferdousi.

According to the residents of the house, Noyoni took her own life by hanging herself. However, local people claimed that she was murdered. Family members told police that she went into a room in the afternoon and allegedly hanged herself, but police did not find the body in a hanging position. The body had been taken down before police arrived.

Police have sent the body to the hospital morgue for an autopsy. The cause of death will be determined after receiving the report, and legal action will follow, according to the police.

Police recovered a Walton tablet, a smartphone, and promotional materials linked to the scams.

Authorities are verifying whether others were involved. Hamid has reportedly confessed during preliminary questioning, and preparations are underway to present him before court as the investigation continues.

According to police and local sources, Nilufa lived with her two-year-old child, father-in-law Monju, mother-in-law Ratna Begum, and brother-in-law Mostakin. Neighbors rushed to the house after hearing cries around 10:30 p.m. and found Nilufa’s body covered with cloth, with a candle burning beside her head. Before police arrived, her in-laws allegedly fled, taking her child with them.

Sherpur police said there were no visible injuries on the body except a mark around the neck. The body was sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, and investigators are focusing on the disappearance of family members to determine the cause of death.

Housewife’s mysterious death in Sherpur; in-laws missing, police launch investigation

Durga Pada Mallik, who was riding on the back of the motorcycle, died on the spot. His son, the motorcycle rider, was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Sub-Inspector Alauddin Talukdar of the hospital police outpost confirmed that both bodies were brought to the hospital and that legal procedures are underway.

Father and son die after pickup-motorcycle collision in Karnaphuli, Chattogram

A 17-year-old boy named Hamid was killed by his friend Shamim in Eidgaon upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday morning after a dispute over unpaid money. Teen killed by friend over debt in Cox’s Bazar; three detained including family members
