Despite the completion of the Boro harvest in early June, rice prices in Rangpur have surged by over 4 taka per kilogram in a month. Coarse, medium, and fine rice varieties have all seen sharp increases, putting pressure on low-income consumers. Traders blame corporate competition and mill owners for market instability, while officials remain unsure of the cause. Though the government continues procurement and subsidized sales, market monitoring remains weak, raising concerns over future affordability.
Heavy monsoon rains and river erosion have triggered fresh flooding in Feni, submerging villages and damaging embankments at 15 points. Over 27 villages are affected, and water levels in rivers like the Muhuri have crossed danger marks. Roads, schools, and fish farms are inundated, while relief efforts are underway. Experts blame poor embankment maintenance. There is an urgent call for coordinated action, emergency shelters, food, and medical aid. The government is urged to take proactive steps before the situation worsens.
In an ambitious effort to combat environmental degradation, Savar Upazila Administration has launched a landmark initiative titled “Let Savar Thrive in Green, Let Thousands of Dreams Fly in the Blue Sky”, aiming to plant 100,000 trees in a single day.
The program includes planting fruit-bearing, medicinal, and forest trees across 12 unions, educational institutions, roadsides, and private lands. Senior government officials, including the Environmental Adviser, Divisional Commissioner, and District Commissioner, will attend the event. The initiative is expected to play a critical role in addressing deforestation, pollution, and climate change in the area. A mobile environmental team will oversee maintenance and raise awareness, while mobile courts will be used to crack down on illegal brick kilns and polluting factories. A long-term environmental action plan is also in development.

Moeazzem Hossain Alal, advisor to the BNP Chairperson, has urged all parties not to hinder the country's path toward a new political arrangement for the sake of democracy.
He accused the ruling Awami League of having a legacy of attacking Parliament and undermining democracy, claiming the party is capable of committing even atrocities to cling to power — including acts that constitute genocide. Alal cited a former Inspector General of Police's alleged confession to being complicit in such acts as evidence.
Advising the Nationalist Citizens’ Party (NCP) to remain restrained, Alal called on all groups to prioritize the nation’s democratic future. While reaffirming his commitment to multiparty democracy, he sharply criticized the Awami League for "defiling Parliament" and repressing the opposition. He concluded by stressing the importance of preserving peace and democracy during this critical period of political transformation.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has alleged that Bengali-speaking individuals are being labeled as illegal immigrants and Bangladeshis in several BJP-ruled Indian states. She expressed grave concern over a recent incident in Delhi’s Jai Hind Colony, where the electricity and water supply of Bengali-speaking residents was cut off before forced eviction. Banerjee highlighted the significant contributions of Bengali laborers to the development of Delhi and stressed that rights should be based on citizenship, not language. She accused the BJP of inciting hatred against Bengalis and carrying out targeted oppression across various states.

This move follows earlier shutdowns linked to NBR staff protests demanding the chairman’s removal.
India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has forcibly repatriated 10 Bangladeshi nationals—mostly women and children—through the Panihata border in Sherpur’s Nalitabari upazila. The individuals had initially traveled to Faridabad, Delhi, two years ago for the cancer treatment of a relative, Amjad Ali, who later passed away. They remained in India as laborers but were recently detained for lacking proper documentation. After being held in Guwahati, they were handed over to BSF and subsequently pushed back into Bangladesh. All are residents of Shahajadpur in Satkhira’s Tala upazila and have since been handed over to local police.
