Chief Adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, is scheduled to visit Malaysia in August on an official bilateral trip, confirmed Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Tauhid Hossain during a press briefing on Thursday.

Originally planned for July, the visit was rescheduled to August due to a packed schedule that month, Hossain stated.

Speaking on the Rohingya issue, the foreign affairs adviser noted, “Apart from the Rohingya crisis, Bangladesh has no major conflict with Myanmar. The only viable solution to the Rohingya issue is their safe and voluntary repatriation to Myanmar.”

NCP leader Sarjis Alam has criticized some BNP members for what he described as excessive flattery, saying they have gone so far as to label Tarique Rahman the "mastermind" behind the July uprising.

In a post on his verified Facebook profile on Thursday evening, Sarjis Alam wrote, “In an effort to curry favor, some BNP leaders are now calling Tarique Rahman the architect of the July uprising. How could they deliberately make such a move that puts their own leader under scrutiny?”

Notably, several BNP leaders have, over time, attempted to highlight Tarique Rahman’s role in the July mass movement, often using such controversial terminology.

Bangladesh is not entering into any alliance, clarified Foreign Affairs Adviser Tauhid Hossain regarding the recent trilateral meeting held in Kunming at the foreign secretary level.

"The initiative came from China and was entirely at the official level, not political. The discussions focused solely on connectivity, trade, and economic cooperation—nothing beyond that," he said.

When asked whether the meeting had any anti-India undertone, Hossain firmly stated, "We are not targeting any third country. In fact, if India wishes, I would gladly support a trilateral initiative involving Bangladesh, Nepal, and India to discuss connectivity or other such matters—even as soon as tomorrow."

The Border Security Force (BSF) of India pushed back eight individuals—including men, women, and children—across the Rangmohol border in Gangni Upazila of Meherpur district.

The individuals said they had been working as laborers in various parts of India for a long time but were arrested and imprisoned about a year ago. After their release from jail on Wednesday, the police handed them over to the BSF. The BSF then reportedly pushed them through the border gate at gunpoint.

After crossing back into Bangladesh, they were detained by the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB). Subedar Basharul Islam of the BGB confirmed the incident and said preparations are underway to send a formal letter to the BSF to hold a flag meeting regarding the matter.

On Thursday night, July Unity held a protest march demanding justice for the genocide, constitutional protection for revolutionaries, and the announcement of the July Charter. After the march, the organizers gathered for a brief assembly where Musaddiq Ali, a leader of July Unity, said that the student and general public of Bangladesh would never accept any endorsement from foreign embassies.

He urged the government to clarify its position swiftly and immediately announce the July Charter. Failure to do so would result in a strict action program. Musaddiq Ali criticized how, in 1972, a constitution—written by foreigners—was imposed on the people of Bangladesh, which he claimed made Prime Minister Hasina a fascist ruler. He demanded that the government disclose which foreign country is currently behind the drafting of the July Charter.

The organization also criticized the government for not taking concrete action against India’s "push-in" incursions and highlighted various other failures.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, most of those returning had gone to Iran for medical treatment. The Bangladesh Embassy in Tehran will continue to support any other nationals wishing to return home until the situation stabilizes. However, officials noted that with the easing of hostilities, most Bangladeshis are now opting to stay.

Rakibul Islam Rakib, President of the Bangladesh Chhatra Dal, stated that leaders and activists of the banned organization Chhatra League were involved in extortion and had directly opened fire on ordinary students during the July mass uprising. He alleged that it is the Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir and the Bangladesh Democratic Student Union (BSDU) who are now working to rehabilitate these banned Chhatra League members.

Rakib further revealed that Saifur Rahman Sakib, General Secretary of Chhatra Shibir at Bangla College, went to the police to secure the release of a Chhatra League activist. "What does this signify? It means they have taken responsibility for the rehabilitation of the banned Chhatra League," he said.

The Chhatra Dal president also claimed to have evidence proving that the current President and Secretary of the Jahangirnagar University branch of Chhatra Shibir are Chhatra League members. Additionally, the President of Dhaka University’s Chhatra Shibir was reportedly directly involved with the Chhatra League committee. Rakib also raised concerns about the central president of Chhatra Shibir allegedly lacking student status.

The interim government has officially renamed 808 public structures that were previously named after Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and other members of their family. According to a statement from the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser, a total of 977 infrastructures and institutions had been named after members of the Sheikh family or Awami League-affiliated politicians during the past 16 years under the previous government.

These included military bases, air force stations, naval vessels, megaprojects such as bridges and highways, as well as schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, and research institutions. The renaming of the remaining 169 establishments is currently underway, as part of what the government describes as a depoliticization and neutralization effort in public infrastructure.

Former CAG and current Sonali Bank chairman Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury highlights structural weaknesses, inefficiency, and bureaucratic complexity within the National Board of Revenue (NBR) as key reasons behind Bangladesh’s persistent revenue shortfalls. He stresses the need for tax system reform, local government empowerment, and better project evaluation to improve budget implementation and attract foreign investment. Chowdhury supports recent financial sector reforms but warns that political stability and long-term policy consistency are essential to drive sustainable economic progress.

BNP leader Shahid Uddin Annie reaffirmed the party’s commitment to judicial and institutional reform. “Reform is a continuous process. Tarique Rahman introduced a 31-point reform plan. If BNP returns to power, we will continue with visible reforms.” He criticized the Awami League’s legacy as one of fascism and plunder. Reflecting on the July movement, Annie described it not as a student-led protest but a full-fledged people’s uprising, drawing parallels with the movement that brought down Ershad's regime.
