A Bangladeshi youth lost his leg in a landmine explosion inside Myanmar while allegedly engaged in cross-border smuggling. The incident occurred in the Naikhongchhari border area of Bandarban district.
Mohammad Salam (42) was caught in an explosion near an old Maijja Camp controlled by the Arakan Army, about 200 meters inside Myanmar from the zero line of Chakdhala Border Outpost’s (BOP) Pillar No. 44.
Local sources reported that the landmine had been planted earlier by the Arakan Army. After the explosion, locals rescued Salam and took him to Naikhongchhari Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

Indian Home Minister Amit Shah has accused the West Bengal government of obstructing efforts to install fencing along a 400-kilometer stretch of the India-Bangladesh border. "We have requested land for fencing ten times and held seven meetings with state officials, but they have not cooperated. Wherever we attempt to install fencing, state ruling party members create obstacles," he stated. Shah noted that of the 2,216-kilometer-long border, 1,653 kilometers have already been fenced, with 112 kilometers being unfeasible due to rivers and canals. He promised to complete the remaining 400 kilometers if the BJP returns to power in 2026.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 16 gold bars and 14 small gold pieces during an operation in Chuadanga while they were being smuggled into India. The estimated market value of the seized gold is around 4 crore BDT ($400,000).
Acting on intelligence reports about gold smuggling, BGB personnel took positions near Sultanganj border in the Sixgharia Government Primary School area. A suspect was intercepted while riding a motorcycle towards the border. Upon searching his waist, 3 kg and 6 grams of gold were discovered and confiscated. The smuggler has been taken into custody for further investigation.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained two Indian nationals in Barkal, Rangamati, for illegally entering Bangladesh. The arrests took place on Wednesday at Chhoto Harina Bazaar. The detainees, identified as Gyanranjan Chakma (45) and Pinku Chakma (22), were found loitering suspiciously in Barkal Upazila. Upon interrogation, they admitted to being Indian citizens engaged in cross-border trade, attempting to smuggle goods between the two countries.

The Border Security Force (BSF) of India has returned five Bangladeshis who were caught crossing the border illegally. The individuals were later handed over to Patgram police by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Among the detainees were three transgender individuals and a married couple. Reports indicate that they were detained inside India’s Systia area on Friday afternoon while trying to re-enter Bangladesh illegally. The BGB confirmed that they had previously entered India through the Comilla-Agartala border in 2022. Interestingly, all of them were found carrying Indian identity documents, including Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and PAN cards.

Police seized 1,750 kg of Indian sugar and arrested one individual in Doarabazar on Friday. The detainee has been identified as Motior Rahman (50).
According to the police, they launched a special operation after receiving intelligence about sugar being illegally smuggled from the Indian border using a Tomtom (three-wheeler) to evade customs duties. During the operation, they intercepted a suspicious vehicle and discovered 11 sacks of sugar. Additionally, a search of Motior Rahman’s shop led to the recovery of 24 more sacks, bringing the total to 35 sacks weighing 1,750 kg.
The seized sugar is estimated to be worth Tk 1,75,000 in the local market.

The Border Security Force (BSF) of India handed over two detained Bangladeshi nationals following a flag meeting in Maheshpur, Jhenaidah.
The two individuals were apprehended while attempting to cross the border illegally. After verifying their identities through their documents and mobile phones, BSF informed the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Subsequently, a flag meeting was held, and they were returned. One of the detainees, Liton Baidya, was handed over to Maheshpur police, while the other woman was sent to a Justice and Care Center in Jessore.

Two Bangladeshis were seriously injured after being shot by Indian Khasi tribesmen near the Bichanakandi border in Sylhet. According to locals, the injured men had crossed into India illegally to smuggle sugar but got into a dispute with the Khasis over payment, which led to the shooting. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) confirmed the incident occurred about 200 yards inside Indian territory near the 1264th main border pillar. A protest letter has been sent to India’s Border Security Force (BSF) regarding the incident.

On Thursday, three Bangladeshi nationals, including a child from the same family, were detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the Panchagarh border for illegal entry. BGB reported that they crossed back into Bangladesh from India under cover of darkness. Upon interrogation, they revealed that they had illegally entered India through human traffickers 2.5 months ago for a fee of 20,000 BDT. They returned to Bangladesh using the same network. Authorities recovered two mobile phones, 2,300 Indian rupees, and 278 Bangladeshi taka from them. Meanwhile, two traffickers involved in the operation managed to escape.
