Professor Samina Luthfa, an observer from Dhaka University Teachers’ Network, described the DUCSU elections as participatory but noted irregularities.
“Many voters walked away with booth pens, later using ballpoints. If the machines fail to read those ballots, whose responsibility is that?” she asked.

She pointed out mismanagement, delays in polling agent approvals, and disputes in Rokeya Hall that hampered voting. In some centers, candidates were even denied entry.

Still, Professor Giti Ara Nasreen from the same network stated, “No major irregularities have been observed so far.”

University Urges Voters to Ignore Rumors of Voting Suspension at TSC

Career Development Secretary candidate Rupaiya Shrestha Tonchonga alleged that some ballots at the TSC center were already marked in favor of VP candidate Sadiq Kayem and GS candidate S.M. Farhad.
However, Returning Officer Dr. Nasrin Sultana dismissed the claim, saying: “We checked all ballot papers and found no such issue. The complainant left the booth and only then made the allegation.”
She added that a fresh ballot paper was still given to the student, and CCTV footage would be reviewed.
VP candidate Abidul Islam expressed outrage at the incident, while opposition-aligned teachers pressed for further accountability.

Voting Begins for DUCSU and Hall Union Elections

Musaddiq Ali Ibn Mohammad, candidate for Literary and Cultural Affairs Secretary in the DUCSU election, has called on the university administration to adopt stronger measures to ensure a free and fair vote.

“Security measures were supposed to be in place since Sunday, but that has not been implemented properly. Some groups are openly announcing they will surround the campus, yet the election commission is passive,” he alleged.

He also claimed rule violations were going unchecked, with parties attempting to sway students with food and money, as well as spreading disinformation online. Musaddiq urged the commission to act swiftly against such irregularities.

DUCSU VP Candidate Files GD Over Safety Concerns

The Jatiya Chhatra Students’ Union (JAKSU) is grappling with a major shortage of candidates at the hall-level parliamentary elections, with the Election Commission unable to find nominees for 63 positions. Over 100 posts are expected to be filled without any competition.

Most of the unfilled positions are in women’s halls, with candidates citing fears of cyberbullying as a key reason for low participation. Amid concerns over voter enthusiasm, the Election Commission’s Secretary has stated that overall turnout will not necessarily be impacted by the shortage of candidates.

Approximately 12,000 students are eligible to vote in the JAKSU elections. Of the 315 posts across 21 halls, 165 will see no contest. Among female students, five vice-presidential positions in 10 residential halls remain uncontested, while at least six posts across 11 male halls lack multiple candidates. Allegations have also emerged of violations of election codes, including distribution of gifts to voters. AGS candidate Sohagi Samia has reportedly been a victim of cyberbullying.

JAKSU Faces Severe Candidate Shortage: Over 100 Posts to Go Uncontested

Seven students at Barishal University have been on a continuous hunger strike since Thursday night, demanding improvements in campus infrastructure and other issues. In a remarkable gesture of solidarity, Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Tawfiq Alam spent the night alongside the students.

At around 1 a.m., the VC joined the students, setting up a mosquito net beside them. Earlier, he reassured the students that the administration was working at full capacity to meet their reasonable demands, promising progress within a week. However, the students vowed to continue their strike until their demands are fully addressed.

The protest involves requests for infrastructural expansion, campus area enlargement, and improved transportation for the 50-acre campus. Earlier on Thursday, the students also blocked the Barishal-Kuakata highway to press their demands. The university proctor noted that land acquisition and other development initiatives are ongoing, but a lack of trust has pushed students to resort to a hunger strike.

BU Vice-Chancellor Spends Night with Hunger-Striking Students Over Infrastructure Demands

Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Saleh Hasan Nakib has sharply criticized student unrest over campus polls, saying:
"You lock doors, you engage in clashes, and then demand that I conduct your election. This is like asking for favors at your uncle’s house."

He emphasized that failure to maintain discipline during the long-awaited RAKSU (Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union) elections reflects poorly on students themselves.

Praising the university’s election commission for not resigning despite intense pressure, the VC noted:
"Some teachers also showed resilience by not backing away despite the vile slogans and chaos. The proctorial body has acted with patience and avoided drastic measures, which is why we are at this stage."

He expressed disappointment that calls for military involvement in a student union election even arose:
"If it requires the army to hold such an election, that is painful for our entire student community."

The remarks came days after student activists padlocked the treasurer’s office and vandalized furniture.
