Rajshahi University Teachers Withdraw Shutdown Program

After a seven-year wait, student union (GUCSU) elections are being held at Savar’s People’s University. Voting inside campus polling stations has been festive, but signs of unrest are visible off campus. Reports say crowds of outsiders have gathered near the main gate and surrounding areas, raising concerns about public order.

University rules restrict entry to teachers, staff, voters, candidates and accredited journalists, yet some former students and unfamiliar faces have been seen on campus. Authorities have deployed 350 security personnel on site. AGS candidate Md. Zahid Hasan said that despite police presence, various unfamiliar and external faces are visible inside the campus and urged the administration to take swift action. Election Commission member Dr. Md. Ali Azam Khan said voting inside the campus is proceeding peacefully and that they have not been officially alerted to disturbances outside; he added that if such incidents are confirmed, legal steps will be taken.

Dhaka University to Launch Regular Medical Camps for Students

Students from Dhaka University’s seven affiliated colleges have voiced strong opposition to the draft Dhaka Central University Ordinance 2025, demanding unconditional inclusion of all current honors batches under the new university.
In a statement, they expressed anger and disappointment, calling the draft a “betrayal of their struggle” against session jams, neglect, and identity crises under DU’s affiliation. Their three-point demand includes:

All current students must be absorbed into Dhaka Central University without conditions.

The government must finalize and gazette the ordinance within 15 working days.

A full administration must be appointed and functional within one month of gazette publication.

Seven-College Students Reject Draft Ordinance, Demand Inclusion in Dhaka Central University

Officials of the BCS Education Cadre have strongly opposed the government’s proposal to transform Dhaka’s seven colleges into faculties or schools of a proposed Central University.

They warned that changing the name or structure of these institutions would harm the interests of students, teachers, and staff, and undermine the colleges’ long-standing traditions at the higher secondary level.

“The Central University plan is attempting to swallow the seven colleges,” they said in a statement, vowing not to accept any decision that compromises students’ rights or erases the colleges’ historic identity.

CUCSU Election Postponed by Three Days, Now Set for October 15

Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) has strongly condemned the attack on Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus’ delegation in New York, allegedly carried out by banned “Awami terrorists” linked to the July massacre.

In a statement, Daksu said the assault on former Social Welfare Secretary and prominent anti-fascist activist Akhtar Hossain was not only a blatant attack on democratic values and human rights but also a warning sign for anti-fascist forces.

The organization criticized the government’s failure to deliver justice for past atrocities, warning that such incidents tarnish Bangladesh’s global image and create unrest in the expatriate community. DUCSU demanded immediate punishment for the perpetrators and urged both the Bangladesh government and U.S. authorities to take effective measures to prevent future attacks.

The much-anticipated Rokeya University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) election has been rescheduled for October 16, following Durga Puja, after heated slogan battles between Bangladesh Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir supporters.

Earlier, the two rival groups staged counter-demonstrations in front of the Roksu treasurer’s office. While Shibir-backed candidates and supporters demanded elections on September 25, left-aligned and independent candidates opposed a “voter-less” process. Amid mounting tensions, five student panels, including Chhatra Dal, declared that the environment was not conducive to a fair election and called for a level playing field. However, Shibir’s university unit president and VP candidate, Mostakur Rahman Zahid, insisted that the September 25 election date must be upheld.
