A violent clash erupted late Saturday night between students of Chittagong University and local residents, leaving more than 50 people injured, including teachers and students. The conflict began around 11:30 p.m. when a female philosophy student argued with a building caretaker over entering her rented accommodation near the university’s Gate No. 2. Tensions quickly escalated, leading to stone-throwing, armed confrontations, and running battles between the two sides. The army was deployed around 3 a.m. to restore order. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Clash Between CU Students and Locals Leaves Over 50 Injured

The long-awaited Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Caksu) and hall union elections have been scheduled for October 12, according to the official election schedule released by Chief Election Commissioner Prof. Dr. Monir Uddin and Member Secretary Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Ariful Haque Siddiqui.

The timetable includes draft voter list publication on September 1, distribution of nomination forms on September 14, scrutiny on September 16, preliminary candidate list on September 21, withdrawal deadline on September 23, and the final candidate list on September 25.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin confirmed that the voter list is nearly complete. He described the polls as a historic event, fulfilling students’ 34-year-long demand for democratic representation on campus.

Caksu and Hall Union Elections Set for October 12

An independent Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) candidate, Jalal Ahmed, allegedly stabbed his roommate inside Mohsin Hall on Tuesday night. The victim, RabiuI Islam, a political science student, is currently undergoing treatment.
Fellow students accused Jalal, popularly known as “Jwalamoyee Jalal”, of attacking his roommate and then locking him inside the room. Hall authorities and the university proctorial team later handed him over to the police. Jalal, however, has claimed he was also attacked.
Outraged students demanded Jalal’s permanent expulsion from the university and the resignation of the hall provost. DU Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed confirmed that the provost, two house tutors, and administrative officials escorted the accused to the police station. A case has been filed, and further action will follow under due legal process.

DU Daksu Candidate Stabs Roommate Inside Mohsin Hall

The Election Commission has formed a taskforce to resolve complaints regarding violations of the code of conduct in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election.

The taskforce will be led by Professor Dr. Golam Rabbani as convener. Members include Professor Dr. Shahidul Islam (Banking and Insurance), Associate Professor Sharmin Kabir (Institute of Education and Research), Associate Professor Syed Tanvir Rahman (Psychology), Assistant Proctor Dr. Muhammad Rafiqul Islam, Jahangir Alam, and Rezaul Karim Sohag.

Taskforce Formed to Address Code of Conduct Complaints in DUCSU Election

BUET students withdrew their sit-in outside Hotel Intercontinental early Tuesday morning, three hours into their demonstration, following assurances of a meeting with the Education Advisor and the Public Administration Secretary.
The protest began after a former BUET student, Rokon, was allegedly threatened with death inside the office of a DESCO executive engineer over the diploma-to-BSc issue. Students staged a sudden night procession, blocked Shahbagh intersection, and later occupied the hotel premises demanding justice.
Police intervened around 4:30 AM, after which students agreed to return to campus.
BUET students had earlier staged movements pressing for reforms in the quota for diploma engineers.
