Evidence has emerged that Deepak Chandra Sarkar, headmaster of Kharia Nabarun Secondary School in Paikgacha, Khulna, holds Indian citizenship. Local residents and official investigations have also raised allegations of irregularities, corruption, and misuse of school funds under his leadership. Despite multiple inquiries confirming his dual citizenship and other complaints, he remains in his position, causing public anger in the area.

According to official documents, Deepak Chandra Sarkar is listed as a voter in West Bengal, India, while also registered as a voter in Khulna’s Laskar Union. Reports allege that he engaged in nepotism and financial transactions during staff recruitment in 2024, involving around 3 million taka. Investigations into school incentive funds for the 2022–23 fiscal year found irregularities and questionable vouchers.

Several administrative investigations between 2024 and 2026 confirmed his Indian citizenship and raised concerns about a foreign national holding an MPO-approved teaching post. The Upazila Nirbahi Officer and district officials termed the matter serious and referred it to higher authorities, but no action has been taken yet. Deepak Chandra Sarkar denies all allegations, claiming he is a Bangladeshi citizen.

Oishee Rahman, convicted of murdering her parents, is now serving as a librarian at the Kashimpur Women’s Central Jail in Gazipur. According to prison officials, she began her sentence at age 19 and has completed 13 years of her 30-year life term under Section 57 of the Penal Code. She spends her days working in the prison library, maintaining the book register, and reading English novels. Oishee reportedly suffers from respiratory illness and maintains good behavior, though she speaks little.

The 2013 murders of retired police officer Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife shocked Dhaka’s Chamelibagh area. Oishee surrendered to police the next day, confessing to the killings before later retracting her statement. In 2015, a lower court sentenced her to death, but the High Court commuted the sentence to life imprisonment in 2017, citing her mental instability, young age, and lack of prior criminal record.

Prison sources said Oishee’s conduct has remained disciplined, and she occasionally tends to flower gardens inside the prison. Her release remains distant, though she continues to await the end of her sentence.

Serious allegations of corruption, irregularities, and substandard work have surfaced in several major projects under Dhaka WASA, including the Padma (Jashaldia) Water Treatment Plant and the Rampura-Kamalapur Pumping Station. Official documents indicate engineering flaws, excessive spending, and personal enrichment by key officials, notably former managing director Taqsem A Khan and engineer Rafiqul Islam. Despite complaints lodged with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Local Government Ministry, investigations were reportedly suppressed during their tenure.

The Padma-Jashaldia project, costing about Tk 3,800 crore, was designed to supply 450 million liters of water daily but currently delivers only 230 million liters. ACC records describe both the Padma and the Tk 400 crore Rampura-Kamalapur projects as failures due to widespread corruption. Expert opinions from BUET highlighted the use of substandard K-9 class pipes instead of the more suitable K-10 class, raising concerns about quality and accountability.

Dhaka WASA’s debt has reportedly reached Tk 25,000 crore, while water prices have been increased 16 times. Despite these hikes, residents continue to complain about poor water quality and irregular supply.

Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district have arrested three Muslim women—Shama Parvin, Shaista, and Fatima—on allegations of cooking beef at their home. The arrests followed a police raid after receiving a tip-off that a family was preparing beef. During the operation, four men reportedly fled, while the three women were detained by female officers. Authorities have sent the seized meat for forensic testing to confirm whether it is beef.

Despite the test results still pending, police have already filed a case against the three women. Officials said they are also searching for the women’s husbands and another neighbor, all of whom recently returned from Mumbai. Investigators are examining where the meat was sourced and whether similar purchases had occurred previously.

Uttar Pradesh enforces strict anti-cow slaughter laws, under which possession or consumption of beef can lead to criminal charges. Police frequently invoke these laws in similar cases across the state.

Serious allegations of irregularities and corruption have surfaced in a canal excavation project in Fulbaria upazila of Mymensingh. Locals claim that instead of employing laborers, contractors used excavator machines for the work, violating project guidelines. They also alleged that the project committee’s president and general secretary took advance signatures from workers on blank bank checks. A written complaint has been submitted to the district administration demanding an investigation.

The project, under the Employment Generation Program for the Poorest (EGPP), is being implemented at a cost of over 25.7 million taka to re-excavate the Dabor Dasta–Malongi canal and build related infrastructure. Official records show 595 workers were supposed to be employed, but only a few were seen supervising the work. Locals reported that most excavation has been done by machines over the past month and a half, raising doubts about the depth and quality of the work.

District officials stated that the project is under regular monitoring and that any proven irregularities will be investigated and addressed accordingly.
