The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has directed all public and private secondary and higher secondary institutions in Bangladesh to create or update their official websites by July 31. Institutions must use the national portal framework and include essential details like student data, teacher info, MPO status, and grievance contacts. This move aims to improve transparency, accessibility, and compliance with government digitalization efforts. Website links must be submitted via the DSHE/EMIS IMS module at www.emis.gov.bd.

The Inter-Education Board has sent a proposal to the Ministry of Education to include a ‘July Uprising’ quota in the admission policy for Class XI in 2025. This quota would benefit students from families of martyrs and injured from the 2024 protests. If approved, it will be implemented from the upcoming admission cycle. Currently, 7% of seats are reserved—5% for freedom fighters and 2% for Ministry-related offices—but reforms are underway due to a decline in freedom fighters’ descendants. The proposal also includes setting admission deadlines, merit-based priority, migration policies, and promoting technical education. With approximately 2.5 million seats expected to remain vacant in 2025, these reforms aim to improve the education system's efficiency.

Inter-Education Board Proposes ‘July Uprising’ Quota for 2025 Class XI Admissions

A significant portion of Bangladeshi students are struggling in math and English due to poor foundational education in primary schools. Experts and research reports point to unskilled teachers, lack of subject-specific training, and inadequate pre-service preparation as key issues. Despite training programs, many teachers fail to apply their knowledge effectively in classrooms. Nearly a quarter of teachers remain untrained, and teacher shortages and insufficient benefits worsen the situation. Education experts stress the urgent need for quality teacher recruitment, training, and monitoring.

The SSC and equivalent exam results have been published, and students dissatisfied with their scores can apply for re-evaluation starting July 11 until July 17. Applications must be submitted via Teletalk SIM with a fee of 150 BDT per subject. To apply, students need to send a specific SMS format to 16222. This year’s overall pass rate is 68.45%, with 139,032 students achieving GPA-5, both figures slightly lower than last year.

NS Kamil Madrasa in Jhalokathi has emerged as the top performer in the Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board Dakhil exam this year. Out of 427 candidates, 227 achieved the highest GPA-5, with an impressive 99.77% pass rate. Founded by Islamic scholar Hazrat Azizur Rahman Qayed Sahib, the madrasa outperformed prominent institutions like Darunnajat Alia and Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa. Meanwhile, other local schools showed varied results, with some achieving high pass rates and GPA-5 scores, while others lagged behind.

Jessore district has secured the highest pass rate in the SSC exams under the Jessore Education Board, covering 10 districts of Khulna Division. Meherpur remains at the bottom with the lowest pass rate. This year’s overall pass rate dropped by 20% compared to last year, and GPA-5 achievers decreased by nearly 5,000. Higher failure rates in English and Mathematics impacted the results. Among 2,575 institutions, 75 achieved 100% pass, while two schools recorded a 100% failure rate.

Authorities have postponed the HSC, Alim, and Vocational exams scheduled for July 10 in Feni due to severe flooding caused by continuous heavy rainfall and upstream water from India. Many areas, especially in Fulgazi and Parshuram, are submerged, with roads cut off and over 20,000 people stranded. Several schools have been turned into shelters. The Comilla, Madrasah, and Technical Education Boards issued notices confirming the suspension, stating that other exams will continue as planned unless further disruptions occur.

Interim Government’s Education Adviser Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar highlighted July as a month of pride and urged all educational institutions to honor martyrs. Speaking at an event in Narayanganj, he emphasized that technical education students will play a leading role in building the new Bangladesh. He praised the students for their role in the July movement, which initiated the country's liberation from oppression. Dr. Abrar called for an education system that fosters skills, ethics, and humanity to fulfill the dreams of the common people.

The results of the 2024 SSC and equivalent exams will be published on July 10, confirmed by the Inter-Education Board. Over 18 lakh students participated under general, Madrasah, and technical boards. The exams were held between February 15 and May 15. Results will be available online at educationboardresults.gov.bd and via SMS. Madrasah students must pre-register by SMS to receive results automatically. Students can also download result sheets from respective board websites using roll and registration numbers.

At Rajshahi University's 72nd founding anniversary, Education Advisor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar said, "While we may have political beliefs and party affiliations, we cannot let negative political influences seep into our educational institutions. These are spaces for intellectual growth."

He acknowledged the students' achievements, adding, "Of course, you've achieved a lot—but alongside you, the working people and general public have also played a vital role. Without their support, your success would not have been possible." He urged students to avoid actions that disrespect teachers or cause public suffering, even if they have grievances.
